The model used is that previously developed by Li [Li, 2006]. The aim of this study was to better understand the universal features governing the kinetics of multi-piece scrap melting in a liquid pool. We observed the formation of a solidified shell and interfacial gap both in a single scrap piece as well as in randomly distributed multiple scrap melting cases. It is shown that the multiple scrap pieces agglomerate throughout the sample due to solidified shell formation. The key factors affecting melting kinetics of a heat examined were: heat transfer coefficient, initial solid fraction, initial liquid (preheating) and solid temperatures, scrap size and thermal conductivity. A scaling analysis of simulation data of melting kinetics was conducted, identifying suitable characteristic length and time scales through which the melting kinetics across different parameters and processing conditions could be scaled and thus understood in the context of a unified mathematical description.Master of Applied Science (MASc
Effects of training on postural control and agility when wearing socks of different compression levels
Study aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of training while wearing socks differing in compression level (clinical, sub-clinical, regular) on performance of static and dynamic balancing and agility tasks in healthy, physically active people. We sought to understand whether socks with different compression properties supported postural regulation and agility task performance by enhancing somatosensory perception, unskewed by specific age range effects. Material and methods: Participants comprised 61 adults aged 18-75 years, divided into three groups (two experimental groups wearing clinical or sub-clinical level compression socks, and one control group wearing regular non-compression socks during training). An 8-week (2 × 1h per week) intervention programme was administered to train static and dynamic balance and postural control, leg strength and agility. Results: A mixed model ANOVA revealed no differences in static and dynamic balance and postural control and agility performance between clinical, sub-clinical, and control groups before and after training. All groups significantly improved their test performance, suggesting that training had some benefit on motor performance. Conclusions: These results raised interesting questions requiring further investigation to examine the effects of wearing socks (with and without different levels of compression) on motor behaviours in specific groups of elderly vs. young participants, in physically active vs. less physically active people, and in performance settings outside standardized laboratory tests to study applications in natural performance environments
An exploration of the effect of proprioceptive knee bracing on biomechanics during a badminton lunge to the net, and the implications to injury mechanisms
The aim of this study was to determine changes in knee biomechanics during badminton lunges due to fatigue, lunge strategy and knee bracing. Kinetic and kinematic data were collected from sixteen experienced right-handed badminton players. Three factor repeated measures ANOVAs (lunge direction – fatigue – brace) were performed with Least Significant Difference pairwise comparisons. In addition, clinical assessments including; Y-balance test, one leg hop distance and ankle dorsiflexion range of motion were performed pre and post fatigue. The knee showed significantly greater flexion during the forehand lunge compared to backhand. In contrast, the internal rotation velocity and the knee extension moment were greater during backhand. Knee angular velocity in the sagittal plane, peak knee moment and range of moment in the coronal plane and stance time showed significantly lower values post fatigue. In addition, the peak knee adduction moment showed significantly lower values in the braced condition in both the fatigued and non-fatigues states, and no significant differences were seen for peak vertical force, loading rate, approach velocity, or in any of the clinical assessment scores. There appears to be greater risk factors when performing a backhand lunge to the net compared to a forehand lunge, and proprioceptive bracing appears to reduce the loading at the knee

ACETABULUM'UN MORFOLOJİSİ VE MORFOMETRİSİ
Acetabulum is a hemispherical cavity on the medial part of the hip joint. Anterior acetabular ridge's morphology is clinically important during total hip arthroplasty. Additionally the depth and diameter of the acetabulum are important during surgical treatment of acetabular fractures. Objective of this study is to determine the relationship between the acetabular depth and diameter. Additionally to describe the anterior acetabular ridge's morphology that can be useful for diagnosing congenital acetabular dysplasia and during acetabular surgery. Material and method: This study was conducted on 154 os coxae. Two morphometrical and one morphological parameters were evaluated. The distance between the acetabular ridge nearest to body of ischium and anterior iliac margin intersecting the acetabular ridge was named as acetabular diameter. The distance between the deepest point of acetabular cavity and the horizontal plane touching the acetabular edges was named as acetabular depth. We evaluated the anterior acetabular ridge's shape morphologically and classified them as follows (irregular, curved, straight and angular). Correlation between morphometrical parameters were investigated using Pearson's test. p<0.05 was the significant level. Results: Regarding to anterior acetabular ridge shape morphology; the majority was curved 71 (46,1 %), 36 (23,3 %) were straight, 26 (16,8 %) were angular and 21 (13,6 %) were irregular. The mean values for the acetabular depth and diameter were 29.49 ± 4.2 mm and 54.29 ± 3.8 mm respectively. Positive and significant correlation was found between the depth and the diameter of the acetabulum (r = 0.498 p < 0.001). Conclusion: Depth of acetabulum correlates with acetabular diameter. Most common acetabular shape is curved (46.1 %). These information may be helpful during hip arthroplasty, treatment of hip joint fractures and in diagnosing congenital hip dysplasia.
NERVUS FACIALIS'IN TEMPORAL DALI İLE NERVUS AURICULOTEMPORALIS ARASINDAKİ ANASTOMOZ
We observed an anastomosis between the temporal branch of facial nerve and auriculotemporal nerve during the routine dissection in the Laboratory of the Anatomy Department. Facial mimic muscles receive the proprioceptive nerve fibers by the skin branches of trigeminal nerve which are connecting with facial nerve branches. In our case, facial nerve and auriculotemporal nerve connection was so close to orbicularis oculi muscle and it is thought to serve for the same purpose. The knowledge of anastomosis of facial nerve between auriculotemporal nerve has significant importance during ophtalmic and plastic surgery at temporal region. Sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve fibers of auriculotemporal nerve can be injured by surgery procedures at temporal region. In this study, we discussed anatomic significance of this anastomosis and measured the distances of anastomotic branch between anatomic landmarks.
The distal fascicle of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament as a cause of tibiotalar impingement syndrome: a current concepts review
Impingement syndromes of the ankle involve either osseous or soft tissue impingement and can be anterior, anterolateral, or posterior. Ankle impingement syndromes are painful conditions caused by the friction of joint tissues, which are both the cause and the effect of altered joint biomechanics. The distal fascicle of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament (AITFL) is possible cause of anterior impingement. The objective of this article was to review the literature concerning the anatomy, pathogenesis, symptoms and treatment of the AITFL impingement and finally to formulate treatment recommendations. The AITFL starts from the distal tibia, 5 mm in average above the articular surface, and descends obliquely between the adjacent margins of the tibia and fibula, anterior to the syndesmosis to the anterior aspect of the lateral malleolus. The incidence of the accessory fascicle differs very widely in the several studies. The presence of the distal fascicle of the AITFL and also the contact with the anterolateral talus is probably a normal finding. It may become pathological, due to anatomical variations and/or anterolateral instability of the ankle resulting from an anterior talofibular ligament injury. When observed during an ankle arthroscopy, the surgeon should look for the criteria described to decide whether it is pathological and considering resection of the distal fascicle. The presence of the AITFL and the contact with the talus is a normal finding. An impingement of the AITFL can result from an anatomical variant or anteroposterior instability of the ankle. The diagnosis of ligamentous impingement in the anterior aspect of the ankle should be considered in patients who have chronic ankle pain in the anterolateral aspect of the ankle after an inversion injury and have a stable ankle, normal plain radiographs, and isolated point tenderness on the anterolateral aspect of the talar dome and in the anteroinferior tibiofibular ligament. The impingement syndrome can be treated arthroscopically
Anatomy of the ankle ligaments: a pictorial essay
Understanding the anatomy of the ankle ligaments is important for correct diagnosis and treatment. Ankle ligament injury is the most frequent cause of acute ankle pain. Chronic ankle pain often finds its cause in laxity of one of the ankle ligaments. In this pictorial essay, the ligaments around the ankle are grouped, depending on their anatomic orientation, and each of the ankle ligaments is discussed in detail

Predrag Duric - orcid: 0000-0001-5770-7224
https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5770-7224BACKGROUND - The leading cause of nonfatal injuries in age group 14‐19 is sports injuries. Purpose of the study was to determine the association between intense physical activity and injury and to identify the circumstances and environment in which injuries are most likely to occur.
METHODS - A prospective cohort study included 698 high school students 15‐19 years old, divided into those exposed and those unexposed to intense physical activity. The international standard questionnaire about physical activity (International Physical Activity Questionnaire—IPAQ) and the metabolic equivalent task (MET) scores were used.
RESULTS - The risk of injuries was 7 times higher (relative risk [RR]: 7.041; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 6.071, 8.187) and the risk of injuries requiring treatment in health facilities was 15 times higher (RR: 14.717; 95% CI: 10.652, 20.592) in the intensely physically active adolescents. The risk of gaining sports injuries was 11 times higher in the exposed group (RR: 11.212; 95% CI: 9.013, 14.074), with a significantly higher incidence rate (Inc.) among men (82.9 per 100). Most injuries occurred in football (Inc. 4.4 per 1000 hours), volleyball (Inc. 3.9 per 1000 hours), and boxing/kickboxing (Inc. 3.7 per 1000 hours).
CONCLUSIONS - Intensely physically active high school students have a much higher risk of injury, which usually occurs during training or a match.89pubpub
