    Effective Strategies for Increasing Citation Frequency

    Due to the effect of citation impact on The Higher Education (THE) world university ranking system, most of the researchers are looking for some helpful techniques to increase their citation record. This paper by reviewing the relevant articles extracts 33 different ways for increasing the citations possibilities. The results show that the article visibility has tended to receive more download and citations. This is probably the first study to collect over 30 different ways to improve the citation record. Further study is needed to explore and expand these techniques in specific fields of study in order to make the results more precisely.Available online: http://ssrn.com/abstract=234458

    A Comparison between Two Main Academic Literature Collections: Web of Science and Scopus Databases

    Nowadays, the world’s scientific community has been publishing an enormous number of papers in different scientific fields. In such environment, it is essential to know which databases are equally efficient and objective for literature searches. It seems that two most extensive databases are Web of Science and Scopus. Besides searching the literature, these two databases used to rank journals in terms of their productivity and the total citations received to indicate the journals impact, prestige or influence. This article attempts to provide a comprehensive comparison of these databases to answer frequent questions which researchers ask, such as: How Web of Science and Scopus are different? In which aspects these two databases are similar? Or, if the researchers are forced to choose one of them, which one should they prefer?     Introduction to the Research Tools Mind Map

    With the increasing use of information and communications technology (ICT), researchers are able to use computer software tools to find, organise, manipulate, analyse, and share relevant information. However, there are hundreds of such tools to select from, for various research-related uses. I have collected over 700 tools that can help researchers do their work efficiently. It is assembled as an interactive Web-based mind map, titled Research Tools, which is updated periodically. Created using the MindMeister software platform, Research Tools provides a convenient interface with zoom in/out, screen drag, and other user-friendly features. Being a mind map, Research Tools consists of a hierarchical set of nodes. It has four main nodes: (1) Searching the literature, (2) Writing a paper, (3) Targeting suitable journals, and (4) Enhancing visibility and impact, and six auxiliary nodes. In the mind map, each parent node has several child nodes associated with it, which can be accessed by clicking on the plus (+) sign. Several free tools can be found in the child nodes. Some paid tools are also included. The four main nodes are described below, listing some tools as examples. In the mind map, a green tick sign indicates my preference for some tools.     Visibility and Citation Impact

    The number of publications is the first criteria for assessing a researcher output. However, the main measurement for author productivity is the number of citations, and citations are typically related to the paper's visibility. In this paper, the relationship between article visibility and the number of citations is investigated. A case study of two researchers who are using publication marketing tools confirmed that the article visibility will greatly improve the citation impact. Some strategies to make the publications available to a larger audience have been presented at the end of this paper

    'Mine's a Pint of Bitter': Performativity, gender, class and representations of authenticity in real-ale tourism

    Leisure choices are expressive of individual agency around the maintenance of taste, boundaries, identity and community. This research paper is part of a wider project designed to assess the social and cultural value of real ale to tourism in the north of England. This paper explores the performativity of real-ale tourism and debates about belonging in northern English real-ale communities. The research combines an ethnographic case study of a real-ale festival with semi-structured interviews with organisers and volunteers, northern English real-ale brewers and real-ale tourists visiting the festival. It is argued that real-ale tourism, despite its origins in the logic of capitalism, becomes a space where people can perform Habermasian, communicative leisure, and despite the contradictions of preferring some capitalist industries over others on the basis of their perceived smaller size and older age, real-ale fans demonstrate agency in their performativity

    We study SYM gauge theories living on ALE spaces. Using localization formulae we compute the prepotential (and its gravitational corrections) for SU(N) supersymmetric N=2,2{\cal N}=2, 2^* gauge theories on ALE spaces of the AnA_n type. Furthermore we derive the Poincar\'{e} polynomial describing the homologies of the corresponding moduli spaces of self-dual gauge connections. From these results we extract the N=4{\cal N}=4 partition function which is a modular form in agreement with the expectations of SL(2,Z)SL(2,\Z) duality.Comment: 26 pages, few explanations added. version to appear in nucl.phy

    ALE manifolds and Conformal Field Theory

    We address the problem of constructing the family of (4,4) theories associated with the sigma-model on a parametrized family Mζ{\cal M}_{\zeta} of Asymptotically Locally Euclidean (ALE) manifolds. We rely on the ADE classification of these manifolds and on their construction as HyperK\"ahler quotients, due to Kronheimer. So doing we are able to define the family of (4,4) theories corresponding to a Mζ{\cal M}_{\zeta} family of ALE manifolds as the deformation of a solvable orbifold C2/Γ{\bf C}^2 \, / \, \Gamma conformal field-theory, Γ\Gamma being a Kleinian group. We discuss the relation among the algebraic structure underlying the topological and metric properties of self-dual 4-manifolds and the algebraic properties of non-rational (4,4)-theories admitting an infinite spectrum of primary fields. In particular, we identify the Hirzebruch signature τ\tau with the dimension of the local polynomial ring {\cal R}=\o {{\bf C}[x,y,z]}{\partial W} associated with the ADE singularity, with the number of non-trivial conjugacy classes in the corresponding Kleinian group and with the number of short representations of the (4,4)-theory minus four.Comment: 48 pages, Latex, SISSA/44/92/EP, IFUM/443/F
