    THE USE OF KAHOOT AS A MEDIA IN EFL READING SKILL: STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

    Digital technology is common in practically every educational level these days, including mobile devices and apps. This design aims to create an enjoyable and stimulating learning environment that will improve student experience and academic achievement in the classroom. One of those fun apps to utilize is Kahoot. Through the platform's digital interface, educators and students can write and exchange assignments, audio, video, and photos. This study aimed to know the strengths and weaknesses of Kahoot as a media in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) reading skill. This study used a mixed methods research design. Quantitative data collection through a questionnaire, and qualitative data collection through interviews. The participants of this study were twenty students who took the survey, two students, and one teacher were selected to conduct interviews. This study used a close-ended questionnaire to obtain data. The study found that Kahoot had a positive effect on improving students' reading skills, including student experience, student cognitive, and student affective. In addition, Kahoot's weaknesses were found, namely internet connectivity influences engagement in learning to read, and students' attention span influences learning to read. As a result, it can be concluded that using Kahoot as a media in EFL reading skill had a positive effect. Overall, Kahoot gives a significant contribution as a tool in the EFL reading skill

    Does Hortense Have a Hoo-Hoo? Gender, Consensus, and the Translation of Gisèle Pineau's L'espérance-macadam — This article uses an experiment in translating Guadeloupean writer Gisèle Pineau's novel L'espérance-macadam via consensus as a point of departure for analyzing the broader context of translating the French Caribbean for an English-speaking public. Previous efforts at translating recent French Caribbean fiction have focused on the challenge of representing the linguistic spectrum specific to the franco- and creolophone Caribbean. Here, it is suggested that Pineau's particular choices in inflecting French with Creole represent women in important ways, and that an awareness of this gendering of language is germane to translation into English. It is also acknowledged that desires on the part of English-speaking translators are not necessarily innocent but that an awareness of gender and local specificities can contribute to the consensus process entailed in publishing translations and should be part of ongoing debates concerning the French Caribbean in general.Est-ce que Hortense a un « Hoo-Hoo »? Traduction au féminin de L'espérance-macadam de Gisèle Pineau — Dans cet article, une expérience de la traduction collective du roman L'espérance-macadam de Gisèle Pineau (Guadeloupe) sert de point de départ à l'étude de la traduction d'oeuvres des Antilles françaises pour un public anglophone. Les efforts de traduction effectués jusqu'ici ont tendance à susciter un débat sur les difficultés de la représentation du continuum linguistique aux Antilles francophones et créolophones. Pour notre part, nous proposons ici que certains choix lexicaux de la part de l'écrivaine constituent une représentation importante de la femme antillaise et qu'une conscience du rôle du genre dans le langage est pertinente à toute traduction en anglais. D'ailleurs, si le désir de la part de ceux et celles qui traduisent n'est pas toujours innocent, cette conscience du genre et de la spécificité locale peut contribuer au processus de consensus qui fait partie de l'édition, et c'est ainsi qu'elle mérite un rôle au sein des débats concernant les Antilles françaises en général

Its use case scenario is the education and training of foreign languages and intercultural communication skills, were contextualization and first person experiences in common settings are key for practical skill acquisitions. It was born as the micro-science-fiction prototype “Frances can’t sleep. She crawls out of bed and with her EmbodiMentor runs through a range of a client’s emotional states, pitching to each one.     Training the Resilient Psychotherapist: What Graduate Students Need to Know About Vicarious Traumatization

    There is a pressing need for more research, not only about the experience of vicarious traumatization (VT), but also how academic institutions can best prepare graduate students for this experience. This qualitative study provided insight into the shared, lived experience of VT, effective coping strategies, and the need for a graduate-level course in trauma therapy. A purposive sample of 11 master’s-level trauma therapists, simultaneously enrolled in a doctoral program, responded to questions about their experiences with VT, their ways of coping, and ideas for a graduate-level course. Data were analyzed via a series of steps, as outlined by Moustakas (1994). That is, this researcher (1) read each interview transcript in its entirety to gain understanding about the meaning of the experience; (2) composed a list of statements in the text of the transcripts that relate to the phenomenon under study and are an essential component of the experience being studied; (3) labeled horizons that represent emotions, sensitivities, and/or actions involved in the experience of the phenomenon; and (4) developed individual, then group, depictions of the experience. Findings included 9 themes: adverse emotional and physical effects of VT, the need for a graduate-level course in trauma therapy, the double-edged sword of being a trauma therapist, coping on three levels (intellectual/professional, spiritual, and physical), how the experience of VT can facilitate a deeper sense of spirituality, self-doubt, decreased trust in other people, difficulty separating clients’ experiences from one’s own life, and fear of the unknown. Spirituality, an area thought to be damaged by VT, was found instead to be strengthened. This study serves to better inform graduate students, as well as those who educate them
