L'AUTORITE PEDAGOGIQUE DE PROFESSEURS NOVICES EN SITUATION D'EPS

    Get PDF

An analysis of adult learner views regarding language learning strategies

This research explores the reasons that adult English language learners have for using various language learning strategies (LLS). The research participants are Japanese adults who are neither language teachers nor full time students. The results of this qualitative study support the common view that English ability is often seen as necessary for work. However, the respondents indicated that they were busy and could not expend a great deal of time on language learning. Workplace needs and personal preference also had a significant impact on time and effort expended on language learning, as well as affecting the learning styles used. The primary finding of the paper is that many adult learners do not use effective LLS appropriately. Personal preference was the main driver of which LLS to use, rather than efficacy of the LLS. An additional finding of the study is that there are learners who pursue English learning for purely practical uses, and that these learners should not be overlooked

Writing the ascent : narrative and mountaineering accounts / by Justin Allec.

Mountaineering is an activity traditionally practiced in remote areas of the world by a select few participants. Upon returning from an expedition, some mountaineers retrospectively publish their account as a testament of the experience. This is a common practice in the mountaineering subculture, and encouraged by the fact that an account can also act as a guide to the mountain for later expeditions. This thesis argues that this practice becomes troubling because even as later expeditions attempt to distinguish their ascents from their predecessors, a similar framework of ideals is reiterated. The expedition's actions can be justified using frameworks based on domination of the environment and indigenous cultures. The repetition of these ideals is encouraged by the teleological narrative adopted by the authors to describe the episodic order of the expedition as well as the goal of the summit. However, this common narrative, as well as the subject matter, also allows accounts to be read in dialogue with one another

Multilayer Energy Discriminating Detector for Medical X-ray Imaging Applications

Contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) relies on visualizing the growth of new blood vessels (i.e. tumor angiogenesis) to provide sufficient materials for cell proliferation during the development of cancer. Since cancers will accumulate an injected contrast agent more than other tissues, it is possible to use one of several methods to enhance the area of lesions in the x-ray image and remove the contrast of normal tissue. Large area flat panel detectors may be used for CEM wherein the subtraction of two acquired images is used to create the resulting enhanced image. There exist several methods to acquire the images to be subtracted, which include temporal subtraction (pre- and post-contrast images) and dual-energy subtraction (low- and high-energy images), however these methods suffer from artifacts due to patient motion between image acquisitions. In this research the use of a multilayer flat panel detector is examined for CEM that is designed to acquire both (low- and high-energy) images simultaneously, thus avoiding motion artifacts in the resulting subtracted image. For comparison, a dual-energy technique prone to motion artifacts that uses a single-layer detector is also investigated. Both detectors are evaluated and optimized using amorphous selenium as the x-ray to charge conversion material, however the theoretical analysis could be extended to other conversion materials. Experimental results of single pixel prototypes of both multilayer and single-layer detectors are also discussed and compared to theoretical results. For a more comprehensive analysis, the motion artifacts present in dual-exposure techniques are modeled and the performance degradation due to motion artifacts is estimated. The effects of noise reduction techniques are also evaluated to determine potential image quality improvements in CEM images

Geographic Concentration of Economic Activities in Aburrá Sur in Antioquia (Colombia) — A Reinterpretation of the Industrialisation Coefficients of the Stochastic Independence Approach

In terms of economic geography, spatial and industrial concentration represents an increasingly important input for the design of public policies that foster local economic development and productive transformation of a territory. This analysis aims to identify the geographic concentration indices of different sectors in which the economic activity is distributed in each of the five municipalities that are part of the territorial agglomeration of Aburrá Sur in the department of Antioquia (Colombia). The methodology is based on a reinterpretation of the industrialisation coefficients used in the stochastic independence approach, which explains the divergences between specialisation levels of production and geographical concentration by using entropy indices that consider the reference distribution as uniform distribution, as is the case with maximum dispersion. We start from the hypothesis that in the municipalities belonging to the Aburrá Sur predominates the high concentration in the manufacturing industry, although some of them could have medium and even low concentration because they have different sector indicators. Results show that the manufacturing industry is the most concentrated sector in the territorial agglomeration. The research findings can be used by political and economic actors in the territory for designing strategies and decision-making on sectoral strategic development commitments

Factors and Structures that contribute to the formation of an Entrepreneurial University

Entrepreneurship is a strategic element for promoting the socio-economic development of countries or regions, encouraging the creation of new businesses and the generation of technological innovations. In this context, the concept of entrepreneurial university emerges, an institution based on the generation and transfer of knowledge, from the development of teaching, research, extension and entrepreneurial activities. Thus, this research sought to identify in the scientific literature factors and structures that contribute to the formation of an entrepreneurial university. Therefore, a search was performed in the SCOPUS database with the search string "entrepreneurial university" or "enterprising university" and then applied the filters \u27All Open Access\u27 and \u27Sort on: Cited by (highest)\u27. The articles were analyzed according to the following elements: year; title; objective; summary; key words; conclusion; and number of citations. The main results indicate that the conception of the entrepreneurial university requires planning and the existence of management models that contemplate, in addition to basic activities, entrepreneurial actions focused on developing entrepreneurial behavior and promoting economic and social development. In addition, the scientific literature has presented models of several factors and structures that contribute to the formation of the entrepreneurial university
