The design and implementation of a multimedia storage server tosupport video-on-demand applications

In this paper we present the design and implementation of a client/server based multimedia architecture for supporting video-on-demand applications. We describe in detail the software architecture of the implementation along with the adopted buffering mechanism. The proposed multithreaded architecture obtains, on one hand, a high degree of parallelism at the server side, allowing both the disk controller and the network card controller work in parallel. On the other hand; at the client side, it achieves the synchronized playback of the video stream at its precise rate, decoupling this process from the reception of data through the network. Additionally, we have derived, under an engineering perspective, some services that a real-time operating system should offer to satisfy the requirements found in video-on-demand applications.This research has been supported by the Regional Research Plan of the Autonomus Community of Madrid under an F.P.I. research grant.Publicad

A Dimension Reduction Scheme for the Computation of Optimal Unions of Subspaces

Given a set of points \F in a high dimensional space, the problem of finding a union of subspaces \cup_i V_i\subset \R^N that best explains the data \F increases dramatically with the dimension of \R^N. In this article, we study a class of transformations that map the problem into another one in lower dimension. We use the best model in the low dimensional space to approximate the best solution in the original high dimensional space. We then estimate the error produced between this solution and the optimal solution in the high dimensional space.Comment: 15 pages. Some corrections were added, in particular the title was changed. Psicología Social Crítica y Emancipadora: fertilidad de la obra de José Ramón Torregrosa

This paper wants to show the usefulness and fertility of the work of José Ramón Torregrosa, probably the most prominent social psychologist in Spain, for the construction of a Critical and Emancipating Social Psychology. In the Torregrosa’s work stand out overall the reflexions and writings about theory, epistemology, and methodology in social psychology, but also the application of these reflexions to fields as meaning of work, unemployment’s effects, or identity.Se pretende mostrar en este trabajo la enorme utilidad que tiene la obra de José Ramón Torregrosa, probablemente el más destacado psicólogo social español, para la construcción de una psicología social realmente crítica y emancipadora. De su obra sobresalen principalmente sus reflexiones sobre epistemología y sobre aspectos teóricos y metodológicos de la materia, pero también la aplicación de tales reflexiones a aspectos como el significado del trabajo, los efectos del desempleo o la identidad

Producción CientíficaCatalina de Aragón, hija menor de los Reyes Católicos y nacida en Alcalá de Henares el 16 de Diciembre de 1485, fue entregada como esposa a Arturo de Gales, primogénito de Enrique VII y sucesor en la corona inglesa, su primo en cuarto grado, ya que era tataranieta de Eduardo III de Inglaterra, cuando solamente tenía 15 años. Rocca, recibió orden de Napoleón de dejar sus cuarteles en Prusia para unirse a la Grande Armée que había de restaurar el gobierno de La Razón en España. Aquel regimiento estaba compuesto por jóvenes soldados de caballería satisfechos de sí mismos y orgullosos de lo que estaban haciendo.
