Experimental results and phenomenology of quarkonium production in relativistic nuclear collisions
An overview of recent measurements of quarkonium production in
nucleus-nucleus collisions and their understanding in theoretical models is
given.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures; writeup of a plenary talk at Quark Matter 2014;

Electron identification performance with ALICE TRD prototypes
We present the electron/pion identification performance measured with
prototypes for ALICE TRD. Measured spectra of energy deposit of pions and
electrons as well as their average values are presented and compared to
calculations. Various radiators are investigated over the momentum range of 1
to 6 GeV/c. The time signature of TR is exploited in a bidimensional likelihood
mothod.Comment: Presented at the conference "TRDs for the 3rd millenium", Bari,

The horn, the hadron mass spectrum and the QCD phase diagram - the statistical model of hadron production in central nucleus-nucleus collisions
We present the status of the description of hadron production in central
nucleus-nucleus collisions within the statistical model . The recent inclusion
of very high-mass resonances and the sigma meson leads to an improved
description of the data, in particular the energy dependence of the K+/pi+
ratio at SPS energies (``the horn''). The connection to the QCD phase diagram
is discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures; presented at the Nucleus-Nucleus 2009 conference,

Quarkonium production in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions: suppression vs. enhancement
After a brief review of the various scenarios for quarkonium production in
ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions we focus on the ingredients and
assumptions underlying the statistical hadronization model. We then confront
model predictions for J/ phase space distributions with the most recent
data from the RHIC accelerator. Analysis of the rapidity dependence of the
J/ nuclear modification factor yields first evidence for the production
of J/ mesons at the phase boundary. We conclude with predictions for
charmonium production at the LHC.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, invited paper, Quark Matter 2006 conference,

Production of light nuclei, hypernuclei and their antiparticles in relativistic nuclear collisions
We present, using the statistical model, an analysis of the production of
light nuclei, hypernuclei and their antiparticles in central collisions of
heavy nuclei. Based on these studies we provide predictions for the production
yields of multiply-strange light nuclei.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figues; v2: final versions accepted for publication (Phys.

Confronting LHC data with the statistical hadronization model
The most recent data from the CERN LHC are compared with calculations within
the statistical hadronization model. The parameters temperature und baryon
chemical potential are fitted to the data. The best fit yields a temperature of
156 MeV, slightly below the expectation from RHIC data. Proton yields are
nearly three standard deviations below this fit and possible reasons are
discussed.Comment: Proceedings of Strange Quark Matter 2013 Conference, to be published
in J. Phys.
Heavy quark production at RHIC and LHC within a partonic transport model
The production and space-time evolution of charm and bottom quarks in
nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC and LHC are investigated with the partonic
transport model BAMPS (Boltzmann Approach of MultiParton Scatterings). Heavy
quarks, produced in primary hard parton scatterings during nucleon-nucleon
collisions, are sampled using the Monte Carlo event generator PYTHIA or the
leading order mini-jet model in conjunction with the Glauber model, revealing a
strong sensitivity on the parton distribution functions, scales, and heavy
quark mass. In a comprehensive study exploring different charm masses, K
factors, and possible initial gluon conditions, secondary production and the
evolution of heavy quarks are examined within a fully dynamic BAMPS simulation
for central heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. Although charm production in
the quark-gluon plasma can be neglected at RHIC, it is significant at LHC but
very sensitive to the initial conditions and the charm mass. Bottom production
in the quark-gluon plasma, however, is negligible both at RHIC and LHC.Comment: 47 pages, 22 figures, and 8 tables, version accepted for publication
