"Combinatorial Bootstrap Inference IN in Prtially Identified Incomplete Structural Models"

    Get PDF
We propose a computationally feasible inference method infinite games of complete information. Galichon and Henry (2011) and Beresteanu, Molchanov, and Molinari (2011) show that such models are equivalent to a collection of moment inequalities that increases exponentially with the number of discrete outcomes. We propose an equivalent characterization based on classical combinatorial optimization methods that alleviates this computational burden and allows the construction of confidence regions with an effcient combinatorial bootstrap procedure that runs in linear computing time. The method can also be applied to the empirical analysis of cooperative and noncooperative games, instrumental variable models of discrete choice and revealed preference analysis. We propose an application to the determinants of long term elderly care choices.

    Get PDF

Assessment of the Effects of Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GESS) on the Output of Dry Season Rice Farmers before and after Scheme Participation in Sokoto State, Nigeria

The study assessed the effects of Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GESS) on the output of dry season rice farmers before and after participation. A multistage sampling technique was used to select farmers for the study. Data for the study were collected from 250 farmers using structured questionnaire. The data obtained was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the showed that the age of the majority of the farmers fall between the ages of 30-39 years, married and had one form of education or the other. Based on the findings, the main source of information (46.8%) regarding the awareness of GESS programme was the district heads and majority (94.4%) of the farmers were registered with the scheme. About 40% of the farmers registered with the scheme because inputs provided by the scheme are supplied to only register farmers at a subsidized rate. The result of t-test analysis showed a significant difference (

Long-lasting impairment of mGluR5-activated intracellular pathways in the striatum after withdrawal of cocaine self-administration

Background: Cocaine addiction continues to be a major heath concern, and despite public health intervention there is a lack of efficient pharmacological treatment options. A newly identified potential target are the group I metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluR1/5), with allosteric modulators showing particular promise. Methods: We evaluated the capacity of mGluR1/5 receptors to induce functional responses in ex vivo striatal slices from rats with 1) acute cocaine self-administration (CSA), 2) chronic CSA and 3) 60 days CSA withdrawal by westernblot and extracellular recordings of synaptic transmission. Results: We found that striatal mGluR5 are the principal mediator of the mGluR1/5 agonist DHPG-induced CREB phosphorylation. Both acute and chronic CSA blunted mGluR1/5 effects on CREB phosphorylation in the striatum, which correlated with the capacity to induce long-term depression, an effect which was maintained 60 days after chronic CSA withdrawal. In the nucleus accumbens, the principal brain region mediating the rewarding effects of drugs, chronic CSA blunted mGluR1/5 stimulation of ERK1/2 and CREB. Interestingly, the mGluR5 antagonist/inverse-agonist, MPEP, lead to a specific increase in CREB phosphorylation after chronic CSA specifically in the nucleus accumbens, but not in the striatum. Conclusions: Prolonged CSA, through withdrawal, leads to a blunting of mGluR1/5 responses in the striatum. In addition, specifically in the accumbens, mGluR5 signaling to CREB shifts from an agonist-induced to an antagonist-induced CREB phosphorylation

This study has sought to describe and give a clearer understanding of how four dimensional Balanced Scorecard performance measures can help to strategy formulation & implementation as well as monitoring tool for BODs and management of a firm. Using a survey approach, this study describes the use, usefulness of both financial / non-financial performance in some troubled banks in Nigeria. As against the over-relied financial measures, this study also established that BSCnon-financial measure really contributes in determining a firm’s performance and thus, should be strongly used by CEOs to monitor managers and employees, and also be used by BODs to monitor CEO/management. The combine usage will certainly lead to achievement of desired and targeted organizational goals. Keywords: Performance Measurement, financial performance, non-financial performanc

Analysis of the Impact of Entrepreneurship Education and Women Entrepreneurs in Family Businesses

Family businesses are one of the dominant entrepreneurial forces in today’s global economy. Transfer ownership, intergenerational succession, leadership/ownership, has received great attention from academics and policymakers on family businesses but little research has been done to analyse the importance of entrepreneurial capabilities on their sustainability with reference to informal sector women. This research therefore explores the impact of entrepreneurial capabilities on informal sector women entrepreneurs in family businesses with a study locus in Plateau State. Using a baseline survey, structured questionnaire schedule was administered to obtain data from 300 women in the various informal sectors in Jos Metropolis. Data from the questionnaire was analysed using Pearson correlation analysis in establishing whether there are any verifiable relationships between women entrepreneurs in the informal sector that are educated or not or have entrepreneurial capabilities, namely, financial management, opportunity seeking, managerial skills, networking and innovative tendencies and family businesses growth and sustainability. The research yielded a mixed result; a positive and significant relationship between educated women and financial management, managerial skills and innovation tendencies existed but not networking and opportunity seeking. It also shows that there is a positive and significant relationship between non-educated women and managerial skills and innovation tendencies but not financial management, opportunity seeking and networking. Therefore, whether they are educated or not does not translate into higher business performance. The following recommendations were made; Government should create more entrepreneurial centres that will inculcate women and not focus on youth alone, women should draw strength by operating jointly rather than individual and participate actively in business associations in order to acquire required skills among others.
