Free vibration analysis of an elliptical plate with cut-out

    Get PDF
The present paper involves in the estimation and approximation of Eigen values and Eigen vectors of an Elliptical plate with a rectangular cut-out under simply supported boundary condition using Independent coordinate coupling method with an eight term deflection function. The study also investigates the effect of position and size of cut-out with rectangular shape on the natural frequencies of an elliptical plate. The variation of the natural frequencies with the change in position of cut-out along the axes of symmetry and along the radial line is studied. The present method ICCM utilizes independent coordinates separately for plate domain and hole domain. The deflection condition of plate and the hole is equated to derive the relationship between global axes and the local axes. The resulted transformation is useful in deriving the mass and stiffness matrices. The size and position of cut-out have been focused to investigate their effect on the natural frequency of an elliptical plate

Free Vibration Analysis of Thick Rectangular and Elliptical Plates with Concentric Cut-Out

This research paper deals with a numerical method which is modified and applied, by the authors to derive an eigenvalue of a thick plate having cut-out in which geometries of plate and cut-outs are different, through a deflection matching condition by including shear deformation and rotary inertia effects, with less computational efforts and high accuracy. The modified Independent Coordinate Coupling Method (ICCM) is validated with FEM package (ANSYS) and applied to know the change in eigenvalues for a plate with cut-out by varying various parameters like aspect ratios, cut-out size, and thickness ratios. Trigonometric functions considered at the boundary level conditions of a simply supported plate should be satisfied. Free vibrational exploration on a thick isotropic plate with various aspect ratios and an elliptical plate with various sizes is carried out through the modified ICCM. Independent coordinates are applied for a plate domain and for a hole domain individually followed by equating the deflection condition of hole and plate, a reduced mass to express with cut-out from which eigenvalues can be obtained. The deflection matching condition facilitates the analysis even though the geometries of plate and cut-outs are different

Processing and Characterization of Carbon Nanofibre Composites for Automotive Applications

    No full text
Currently, numerous studies have shown that carbon nanofibres have mechanical properties that are replaced by other widely used fibres. The high tensile strength of the carbon fibres makes them ideal to use in polymer matrix composites. The high-strength fibres can be used in short form in a composite and mass-produced to meet the high demands of automotive applications. These composites are capable of addressing the strength requirement of nonstructural and structural components of the automotive industry. Due to these composite lightweight and high-strength weight ratios, the applications can be widely varying. The research for these materials is a never-ending process, as researchers and design engineers are yet to tap its full potential. This study fabricated phenolic resin with different wt% of carbon nanofibre (CNF). The percentage of the CNF as a filler material is varied from 1 to 4 wt%. Mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, and XRD were investigated. Phenolic resin with 4 wt% of carbon nanofibre (CNF) exhibits maximum tensile strength and hardness of 43.8 MPa and 37.8 HV.</jats:p
