    Nowadays we frequently can't say which clothes weshould wear tomorrow. The problem is that there is no weather forecast service which can provide us exact weather forecast even for tomorrow, needless to say about further future. Main purpose of this work is to design system that will predict which weather forecast service should be used today to know weather for tomorrow. Authors suggest to evaluate forecasting value of temperature relying on statistics. They describe steps which they need to pass to achieve the purpose. As a result authors want to develop software which can provide weather forecast with higher probability than all existing services

    Seed germination and conservation of two endemic species from Central Apennines (Italy)

    The Mediterranean mountains are one of the most threatened ecosystems in Europe, and endemic species are a significant feature of this environment. The definition of germination protocols for endemic, rare or threatened species is an important step for their conservation. The aim of this work was to analyze seed germination of Phyllolepidum rupestre Ten. Trinajstić and Crepis magellensis F. Conti & Uzunov, two endemic species growing in small populations in the Majella Nation Park (Central Apennines, Italy). The effects of temperature (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 25/10 and 20/10°C), irradiance and gibberellic acid (250 and 500 ppm) on seeds germination were considered. A protocol for the in situ reintroduction was also developed. The results highlight a significant effect of temperature on seed germination. In particular, seed germination for P. rupestre and C. magellensis was 70.58 ± 3.75 % and 97.30 ± 3.13% at 20°C, respectively. These protocols can be used in reinforcement projects for wild populations

    This article introduces a methodology to evidence the current attractiveness level of Italian high-speed railway stations in a GIS environment, involving station services and fow parameters. The model has been elevant to detect stations with lower attractive capacity, and afterward, to implement the station attractivity, the work proposed employing a coworking spaces strategy as a service in station. Coworking spaces produce enefts both for the traveler and the transport company. These places became part of the services ofered within railway stations since they are fow providers able to change appearance and idea of experience at station. In France, a coworking strategy has been created from the collaboration of Regus, leader company in coworking spaces supply, and the French railway group (SNCF). The Italian railway company (Ferrovie dello Stato) does not consider the attractiveness potential of coworking in the management of station resources; coworking spaces in Italy are placed outside stations. Accordingly, Torino Porta Susa station has been identifed as one of the stations with low attractivity capacity from the methodology implemented, and it has been chosen as the case study to implement the coworking strategy. The choice of Torino Porta Susa is accurate also for showing the value of associating coworking as urban policies support. The coworking strategy can implement attractiveness levels and, in a long-term future perspective, encourage sustainable mobility target

    Web application testing: Using tree kernels to detect near-duplicate states in automated model inference

    Background: In the context of End-to-End testing of web applications , automated exploration techniques (a.k.a. crawling) are widely used to infer state-based models of the site under test. These models, in which states represent features of the web application and transitions represent reachability relationships, can be used for several model-based testing tasks, such as test case generation. However, current exploration techniques often lead to models containing many near-duplicate states, i.e., states representing slightly different pages that are in fact instances of the same feature. This has a negative impact on the subsequent model-based testing tasks, adversely affecting, for example, size, running time, and achieved coverage of generated test suites. Aims: As a web page can be naturally represented by its tree-structured DOM representation, we propose a novel near-duplicate detection technique to improve the model inference of web applications, based on Tree Kernel (TK) functions. TKs are a class of functions that compute similarity between tree-structured objects, largely investigated and successfully applied in the Natural Language Processing domain. Method: To evaluate the capability of the proposed approach in detecting near-duplicate web pages, we conducted preliminary classification experiments on a freely-available massive dataset of about 100k manually annotated web page pairs. We compared the classification performance of the proposed approach with other state-of-the-art near-duplicate detection techniques. Results: Preliminary results show that our approach performs better than state-of-the-art techniques in the near-duplicate detection classification task. Conclusions: These promising results show that TKs can be applied to near-duplicate detection in the context of web application model inference, and motivate further research in this direction to assess the impact of the technique on the quality of the inferred models and on the subsequent application of model-based testing techniques

    SARS-CoV-2 spread and area economic disadvantage in the italian three-tier restrictions: a multilevel approach

    Background: To face the second wave of COVID-19, Italy implemented a tiered restriction system with different limitation levels (yellow = medium; orange = medium-high, red = high) at the beginning of November 2020. The restrictions systematically reduced the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 with increasing strength for increasing tier. However, it is unknown whether the effect of limitations was equal between provinces with different socioeconomic levels. Therefore, we investigated the association between the province's socioeconomic level and SARS-CoV-2 infection daily reproduction number in each restriction level. Methods: We measured the province's socioeconomic level as the percentage of individuals whose 2019 total yearly income was lower than 10,000€, using the measure as a proxy of economic disadvantage. We estimated the daily reproduction number (Rt) at the province level using the SARS-CoV-2 daily incidence data from November 2020 to May 2021. We then used multilevel linear regression models with random intercepts stratified by restriction level to estimate the association between economic disadvantage and Rt. We also adjusted the analyses for potential confounders of the association between the province's economic disadvantage and the Rt: the percentage of people with 0-5 years, the quartiles of population density, and the geographical repartition. Results: Overall, we found increasing Rt in yellow (+ 0.004 p < 0.01, from Rt = 0.99 to 1.08 in three weeks) and containing effects for the orange (-0.005 p < 0.01, from Rt = 1.03 to 0.93) and the red tier (-0.014 p < 0.01, from Rt = 1.05 to 0.76). More economically disadvantaged provinces had higher Rt levels in every tier, although non-significantly in the yellow level (yellow = 0.001 p = 0.19; orange = 0.002 p = 0.02; red = 0.004 p < 0.01). The results showed that the association between economic disadvantage and Rt differed by level of restriction. The number of days into the restriction and the economic disadvantage had statistically significant interactions in every adjusted model. Compared to better off, more economically disadvantaged provinces had slower increasing trends in yellow and steeper Rt reductions in orange, but they showed slower Rt reductions in the highest tier. Conclusion: Lower tiers were more effective in more economically disadvantaged provinces, while the highest restriction level had milder effects. These results underline the importance of accounting for socioeconomic level when implementing public health measures

    Practical and clinical utility of non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) for the acute treatment of migraine. A post hoc analysis of the randomized, sham-controlled, double-blind PRESTO trial

    Background: The PRESTO study of non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS; gammaCore®) featured key primary and secondary end points recommended by the International Headache Society to provide Class I evidence that for patients with an episodic migraine, nVNS significantly increases the probability of having mild pain or being pain-free 2 h post stimulation. Here, we examined additional data from PRESTO to provide further insights into the practical utility of nVNS by evaluating its ability to consistently deliver clinically meaningful improvements in pain intensity while reducing the need for rescue medication. Methods: Patients recorded pain intensity for treated migraine attacks on a 4-point scale. Data were examined to compare nVNS and sham with regard to the percentage of patients who benefited by at least 1 point in pain intensity. We also assessed the percentage of attacks that required rescue medication and pain-free rates stratified by pain intensity at treatment initiation. Results: A significantly higher percentage of patients who used acute nVNS treatment (n = 120) vs sham (n = 123) reported a ≥ 1-point decrease in pain intensity at 30 min (nVNS, 32.2%; sham, 18.5%; P = 0.020), 60 min (nVNS, 38.8%; sham, 24.0%; P = 0.017), and 120 min (nVNS, 46.8%; sham, 26.2%; P = 0.002) after the first attack. Similar significant results were seen when assessing the benefit in all attacks. The proportion of patients who did not require rescue medication was significantly higher with nVNS than with sham for the first attack (nVNS, 59.3%; sham, 41.9%; P = 0.013) and all attacks (nVNS, 52.3%; sham, 37.3%; P = 0.008). When initial pain intensity was mild, the percentage of patients with no pain after treatment was significantly higher with nVNS than with sham at 60 min (all attacks: nVNS, 37.0%; sham, 21.2%; P = 0.025) and 120 min (first attack: nVNS, 50.0%; sham, 25.0%; P = 0.018; all attacks: nVNS, 46.7%; sham, 30.1%; P = 0.037). Conclusions: This post hoc analysis demonstrated that acute nVNS treatment quickly and consistently reduced pain intensity while decreasing rescue medication use. These clinical benefits provide guidance in the optimal use of nVNS in everyday practice, which can potentially reduce use of acute pharmacologic medications and their associated adverse events.     Xylose Hydrogenation Promoted by Ru/SiO2 Sol–Gel Catalyst: From Batch to Continuous Operation

    Xylose is nowadays converted into xylitol, a popular special chemical sweetener. Xylitol can be used not only in the pharmaceutical and food industries, but also in cosmetics and synthetic resins because of its countless properties. Conventionally, xylitol is produced by slurry reactors operating in batch with dispersed or supported catalysts. Hydrogen is continuously fed to maintain a constant pressure. In this work, the kinetics of the reaction were investigated to find the optimal operating conditions to minimize the by-products obtained. Given the great performances shown by the new Ru/SiO2 sol–gel derived catalyst in glucose hydrogenation, in this work the mentioned catalyst was tested in the hydrogenation of xylose to xylitol both in batch and in continuous production to prove its stability and activity
