A complete census of silicate features in the mid-infrared spectra of active galaxies
We present a comprehensive study of the silicate features at 9.7 and 18
micron of a sample of almost 800 active galactic nuclei (AGN) with available
spectra from the Spitzer InfraRed Spectrograph (IRS). We measure the strength
of the silicate feature at 9.7 micron, S9.7, before and after subtracting the
host galaxy emission from the IRS spectra. The numbers of type 1 and 2 AGN with
the feature in emission increase by 20 and 50%, respectively, once the host
galaxy is removed, while 35% of objects with the feature originally in
absorption exhibit it in even deeper absorption. The peak of S9.7, lambda_peak,
has a bimodal distribution when the feature is in emission, with about 65% of
the cases showing lambda_peak > 10.2 micron. Silicates can appear in emission
in objects with mid-infrared (MIR) luminosity spanning over six orders of
magnitude. The derived distributions of the strength of the silicate features
at 9.7 and 18 micron provide a solid test bed for modeling the dust
distribution in AGN. Clumpiness is needed in order to produce absorption
features in unobscured AGN and can also cause the silicates to be in absorption
at 9.7 micron and in emission at 18 micron in type 1 sources. We find the
`cosmic' silicates of Ossenkopf et al. to be more consistent with the
observations than Draine's `astronomical' silicates. Finally, we discuss the
possibility of a foreground absorber to explain the deep silicate absorption
features in the MIR spectra of some type 2 AGN.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures. Accepted for publication in Ap
recursos y estrategias adecuadas.n this work we perform an exploration of attitudes
of parents and education professionals to the inclusion of
pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in classrooms
ordinary. The objective is to analyze whether there are differences in their attitudes and if
they are influenced by variables such as studies conducted, gender,
profession, knowledge of the difficulties, etc.. To do this, we have moved
several questionnaires about attitudes to a sample of 33
teachers in primary and secondary education, 22 fathers and 26 mothers
students.
Among the results, we note that there is an attitude
generally positive towards the inclusion of this group of students, but
it does not work optimally due mainly to the lack of
resources and appropriate strategies
A community small-scale wind generation project in Peru
Electrification systems based on renewable energy have proven to be suitable for providing
decentralized electricity to isolated communities. Electricity generated through wind power
is one of the technical options available, although infrequently used to date. This article aims
to describe the main aspects of technical design, implementation and management of the
first small-scale community wind generation project for rural electrification in Peru. This
project took place in the community of El Alumbre, in the region of Cajamarca, which is a
mountainous area characterized by low to medium wind speeds. This project, implemented
by
Soluciones Prácticas – Practical Action (Peru), brought electric power to the 33
households (a total of 150 inhabitants) as well as the school and health center of the
community.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Currently, in teaching there are still subjects that are taught using a traditional method
where the student is a passive being and only the final result and memorization are valued. In
the case of the subject of music this also happens and in order to be able to contribute new
resources, in this work a didactic unit destined to the musical tale is proposed and this in
particular to the story of "Nutcracker".
The musical story contributes to a more globalizing and integral learning and in addition
to being an innovative and flexible resource, motivates the students to have a more positive
and active attitude in the activities proposed. In addition, it facilitates the interdisciplinary
learning because it allows to work contents of other subjects like the reading, the
dramatization, the writing, the resolution of problems, values like cooperativism, ...
For that, it is not an utopian resource, the didactic unit has been set up in a primary
education center and specifically in the third level. The conclusions that have been drawn from
this project have been very positive, since all of the proposed objectives have been met
Youth impact on the public sphere in Press and Twitter: The dissolution of the Spanish Youth Council / El impacto de los jóvenes en la esfera pública: La disolución del Consejo de la Juventud de España en la prensa y en Twitter
This paper aims to contribute to the study of the difficulties that young people face in accessing the public sphere as political actors. It looks at the Press coverage and the Twitter activity surrounding the restructuring process and the subsequent dissolution of the Spanish Youth Council (Consejo de la Juventud de España - CJE). A content analysis was carried out on the news published in 22 newspapers between 2012 and 2014, as well as on the use of Twitter within the framework of the “Salvemos el CJE” campaign during the same period of time. The main objective of the analysis has been to see the prominence of this issue on both the media and citizens’ agendas. In most newspapers, the measures taken by the government vis-á-vis the CJE were treated as punctual news of peripheral importance. The online campaign, mainly orchestrated by youth grassroots movements, raised the controversy on the biased nature and the political consequences of this plan. The core of the campaign addressed the representation of young people in public institutions. The results of the study suggest that the increased potential for visibility offered by social media is not always maximized and does not necessarily alter the prominence of an issue in the public sphere
A posteriori disclosure risk measure for tabular data based on conditional entropy
Statistical database protection, also known as Statistical Disclosure Control (SDC), is a part of information security which tries to prevent published statistical information (tables, individual records) from disclosing the contribution of specific respondents. This paper deals with the assessment of the disclosure risk associated to the release of tabular data. So-called sensitivity rules are currently being used to measure the disclosure risk for tables. These rules operate on an a priori basis: the data are examined and the rules are used to decide whether the data can be released as they stand or should rather be protected. In this paper, we propose to complement a priori risk assessment with a posteriori risk assessment in order to achieve a higher level of security, that is, we propose to take the protected information into account when measuring the disclosure risk. The proposed a posteriori disclosure risk measure is compatible with a broad class of disclosure protection methods and can be extended for computing disclosure risk for a set of linked tables. In the case of linked table protection via cell suppression, the proposed measure allows detection of secondary suppression patterns which offer more protection than others
