Study of shrimp stock was carried out from September 2007 to November 2009 in west of Khuzestan coastal waters. In this period, twelve cruises in Life- Buseif (western coastal area) were carried using shrimp trawl net. In Life- Buseif fishing area, the CPUE of total shrimp was the highest (44.2 kg/h) in 21st October 2008. In this area, the highest biomass of total shrimps was in same time (982.4 t). This value was 808.5 t for M. affinis. Maximum mean length of males and females of M.affinis were observed in 4th November 2009 (12.1 & 11.3 cm respectively). Maximum and minimum sex ratio (f:m) of this species was 1.8:1 in 15th November 2008 and 0.6:1 in 3rd November 2008. Relative frequency of shrimp in total catch was observed in November (22.2%). According to the results of this study, shrimp catch season was opened in Life- Buseif from 4th Nov until 24th Dec 2007, from 24th Oct until 14th Dec 2008 and from 27th Oct until 17th Dec 2009
A study on fishing status and some reproductive characteristics of Klunzinger’s mullet (Lize klunzingeri) in coastal waters of Khuzestan province
Biological characteristics of Liza klunzingeri were studied in two coastal areas, Sajaphi and Bahrekan, of eastern Khuzestan during March to February 2007. Among total 1880 measured fish specimens, 947 specimens were analyzed. The mean value of Gonado-somatic Index (GSI) for the male and female fish were calculated as 0.96± 1.39 and 3.25 ± 3.26 respectively. The GSI value was highest in November and lowest in July. The mean value of condition factor (K) was 1.25± 0.14 in male and 1.21± 0.15 for female. The highest K value were observed in June and the lowest value in February. The lenght at first maturity regardless of sexuality, was found to be 14.5 cm and the time of spawning based on reproduction pattern were determined in Nov- Dec. The length-weight relationship were calculated as Y=0.024L^2.76 (n=226R2=0.72) for males, Y=0.011L^3.00 (n=444R2= 0.78) for females and Y=0.0208L^2.82 (n=670R2 =0.82) for total fishes and also it’s found significant in level length weight relationship in (P<0.05). According to biological characteristics and referring to American fisheries society (AFS) indices and Fuzzy logic expert system, Lize klunzingeri is classified as low vulnerable species
Study and research on the fishing gears in northern waters of Persian Gulf (Khuzestan Province Coastal Waters)
Study and research on the fishing gears in northern waters of Persian Gulf (Khuzestan Province Coastal Waters) was carried out from March 2009 to February 2010. Sampling was done for trawl in summer and autumn, for purse seine in autumn and for gillnet and trap in all seasons. The average of total catch was in trawl 167.9 1.06 kg. The rate of bycatch in ± 207.89 and trap 1.66 ±270.17, gillnet 275.86 ± 48.4, purse seine 1795.6 ± trawl net was 87 percent, purse seine net 30.49 percent, gill net 70 percent and trap 6.19 percent. In this study, the number of bycatch species in trawl net are 38 species, gill net 36 species, trap 10 species and purse seine net 4 species. The result of two way ANOVA test in trawl net between bycatch and time, and between bycatch and place showed non-significant differences (p>0.05, f=0.3) (p>0.05, f=0.9). The result of two way ANOVA test in gillnet between bycatch and time, showed significant (p0.05, f=1.8). The result of two way ANOVA test in trap between bycatch and time and between bycatch and place was non-significant (p>0.05, f=0.5). According to the result, rate of bycatch of trawl net is higher than other gear, so control and manage of bycatch in trawl is most important
Determination of biomass of fishes in Shadegan Wetland
Biomass estimation of fishes were done by depletion method in Shadegan Wetland in 2011-12. Fishing effort and landing catch amount per unit effort was done via random oversea in fixed landing area monthly. Fishermen and catch statistics were obtained from census. Total catch was calculated from multiplication of effort and average catch. Fishes biological characteristics survey indicated that Golden barb (Barbus luteus) and Berzem (Barbus pectoralis) has maximum (62 kg/ha) and minimum (4 kg/ha) biomass respectively. Maximum and Minimum biomass was in spring (380 kg/ha) and in winter (58 kg/ha) respectively and mean biomass was estimated 249 kg/ha in whole area during one year. Number of fishermen were about 1317 and maximum fishing effort was in April, May and June. Total fish landing was 4300 tons per year in which 1119 tons was calculated in April. Large scaled barb (Barbus grypus) and Abu mullet (liza abu) had maximum and minimum mean length and weight. The range length of most of fishes was low and their spawning season was in winter and spring. Length- weight relationship indicates their isometric growth. Despite of 45% decrease of number of fisherman to previous time (2008), catch effort and exploitation was increased (20%). Regarding fish living area (70000 ha), total biomass was 17430 tons
Biology of southern meager (Argyrosomus hololepidotus) in Khouzestan province coastal waters
In order to study feeding and reproductive biology of Southern meager (A.hololepidotus) in North West of Persian Gulf. 143 (74 males and 69 females) species were collected between October of 2008 to October of 2009 in coast of Khouzestan. Maximum and minimum length of fish were 143 cm and 81 cm respectively Maximum mean length (128.4±7.5) and Minimum mean length (104.86±12.47) were detected in October and May respectively. Maximum weight (27.5Kg) and Minimum weight (5.7Kg) and also mean weight to males (15222±1371) and Min mean weight of females (16942/02±2095) were detected. Absolute fecundity (4111847.66) and relative fecundity (268.33) were analyzed. GSI Analysis showed that these species (A.hololepidotus) spawn during June to September with highest spawning rate in September. Results showed that Southern meager is a batch spawner species relationship between length and weight of male Y=0.042L^2.70 (n=74,R2 =0.86) and female species Y=0.061L^2.61(n=69, R2=0.85) and also total species Y=0.059L^2.62 (n=143, R2=0.86) were measured. Due to not finding Immature species during sampling LM50 wasn’t analyzed. Analysis HSI and K index showed highest value in April and May and lowest value in August and September respectively. Prey occurrence index showed that fish is main food item and Crustacean specially Shrimp and Mollusca are secondary food item of this species. Analysis of vacuity index showed that females of Southern meager are more gluttonous than males and this species feed during spawning season. In general we can classify Southern meager as a moderate feeding rate species
Prevalence and predictors of low back pain among the Iranian population: Results from the Persian cohort study
Background and objectives: Low back pain (LBP) is a common health condition in populations. Limited large-scale population-based studies evaluated the prevalence and predictors of LBP in developing countries. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and factors associated with LBP among the Iranian population.
Methods: We used baseline information from the Prospective Epidemiological Research Studies in Iran (PERSIAN), including individuals from 16 provinces of Iran. LBP was defined as the history of back pain interfering with daily activities for more than one week during an individual's lifetime. Various factors hypothesized to affect LBP, such as age, sex, marital status, educational status, ethnicity, living area, employment status, history of smoking, body mass index (BMI), physical activity, sleep duration, wealth score, history of joint pain, and history of morning stiffness in the joints were evaluated.
Results: In total, 163770 Iranians with a mean age of 49.37 (SD = 9.15) were included in this study, 44.8% of whom were male. The prevalence of LBP was 25.2% among participants. After adjusting for confounders, the female gender [OR:1.244(1.02-1.50)], middle and older ages [OR:1.23(1.10-1.33) and OR:1.13(1.07-1.42), respectively], being overweight or obese [OR:1.13(1.07-1.19) and OR:1.21(1.16-1.27), respectively], former and current smokers (OR:1.25(1.16-1.36) and OR:1.28(1.17-1.39), respectively], low physical activity [OR:1.07 (1.01-1.14)], and short sleep duration [OR: 1.09(1.02-1.17)] were significantly associated with LBP.
Conclusion: In this large-scale study, we found the lifetime prevalence of LBP to be lower among the Iranian population in comparison to the global prevalence of LBP; further studies are warranted to evaluate the causality of risk factors on LBP
