    The iPlant Collaborative provides life science research communities access to comprehensive, scalable, and cohesive computational infrastructure for data management; identity management; collaboration tools; and cloud, high-performance, high-throughput computing. iPlant provides training, learning material, and best practice resources to help all researchers make the best use of their data, expand their computational skill set, and effectively manage their data and computation when working as distributed teams. iPlant's platform permits researchers to easily deposit and share their data and deploy new computational tools and analysis workflows, allowing the broader community to easily use and reuse those data and computational analyses

    Where do we go from here? An assessment of navigation performance using a compass versus a GPS unit

    The Global Positioning System (GPS) looks set to replace the traditional map and compass for navigation tasks in military and civil domains. However, we may ask whether GPS has a real performance advantage over traditional methods. We present an exploratory study using a waypoint plotting task to compare the standard magnetic compass against a military GPS unit, for both expert and non-expert navigators. Whilst performance times were generally longer in setting up the GPS unit, once navigation was underway the GPS was more efficient than the compass. For mediumto long-term missions, this means that GPS could offer significant performance benefits, although the compass remains superior for shorter missions. Notwithstanding the performance times, significantly more errors, and more serious errors, occurred when using the compass. Overall, then, the GPS offers some clear advantages, especially for non-expert users. Nonetheless, concerns over the development of cognitive maps remain when using GPS technologies

    Social Interactions vs Revisions, What is important for Promotion in Wikipedia?

    In epistemic community, people are said to be selected on their knowledge contribution to the project (articles, codes, etc.) However, the socialization process is an important factor for inclusion, sustainability as a contributor, and promotion. Finally, what does matter to be promoted? being a good contributor? being a good animator? knowing the boss? We explore this question looking at the process of election for administrator in the English Wikipedia community. We modeled the candidates according to their revisions and/or social attributes. These attributes are used to construct a predictive model of promotion success, based on the candidates's past behavior, computed thanks to a random forest algorithm. Our model combining knowledge contribution variables and social networking variables successfully explain 78% of the results which is better than the former models. It also helps to refine the criterion for election. If the number of knowledge contributions is the most important element, social interactions come close second to explain the election. But being connected with the future peers (the admins) can make the difference between success and failure, making this epistemic community a very social community too

    ABSTRAK Pengaruh Fasilitas,Harga dan Lokasi Terhadap Keputusan Konsumen Dalam Memilih Indekost (Studi Kasus Pengguna Indekost di Kelurahan Tuah Madani Kota Pekanbaru) OLEH : LUTVIANA ANTIN P 12070120644 Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh Fasilitas,Harga dan Lokasi terhadap Keputusan Konsumen dalam memilih Indekost pada pengguna indekost di Kelurahan Tuah Madani Kota Pekanbaru. Jenis Penelitian ini adalah penelitian Kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode regresi linear berganda. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini 100 responden yang dipilih menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kusioner kepada responden. Data penelitian dianalisis dan diolah menggunakan SPSS.V.26. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan menunjukkan secara parsial Fasilitas,Harga dan Lokasi berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap keputusan konsumen dalam memilih indekost di Kelurahan Tuah Madani Kota Pekanbaru. Hasil pengujian secara Simultan menunjukkan bahwa Fasilitas,harga dan Lokasi memiliki pengaruh Positif dan Signifikan terhadap Keputusan Konsumen dalam memilih Indekost diKelurahan Tuah Madani Kota Pekanbaru.Nilai R Square sebesar 0,910 atau 91,0% menunjukkan bahwa variable Fasilitas,Harga dan Lokasi secara keseluruhan memberikan pengaruh sebesar 91,0% terhadap variable Keputusan Konsumen. Sedangkan sisahnya sebesar 9% dipengaruhi oleh variable lain yang tidak diteliti dalam penelitian ini. Kata Kunci : Fasilitas,Harga dan Lokasi , Keputusan Konsume

    The study design of UDRIVE: the Naturalistic Driving Study across Europe for cars, trucks and scooters

    Purpose: UDRIVE is the first large-scale European Naturalistic Driving Study on cars, trucks and powered two wheelers. The acronym stands for "European naturalistic Driving and Riding for Infrastructure & Vehicle safety and Environment". The purpose of the study is to gain a better understanding of what happens on the road in everyday traffic situations. Methods: The paper describes Naturalistic Driving Studies, a method which provides insight into the actual real-world behaviour of road users, unaffected by experimental conditions and related biases. Naturalistic driving can be defined as a study undertaken to provide insight into driver behaviour during everyday trips by recording details of the driver, the vehicle and the surroundings through unobtrusive data gathering equipment and without experimental control. Data collection will take place in six EU Member States. Results: Road User Behaviour will be studied with a focus on both safety and environment. The UDRIVE project follows the steps of the FESTA-V methodology, which was originally designed for Field Operational Tests. Conclusions: Defining research questions forms the basis of the study design and the specification of the recording equipment. Both will be described in this paper. Although the project has just started collecting data from drivers, we consider the process of designing the study as a major result which may help other initiatives to set up similar studies

    Substance use among sexual and gender minorities: Association with police discrimination and police mistrust

    We investigated associations between experiences with police discrimination, police mistrust, and substance use in a convenience sample of 237 sexual and gender minority (SGM) adults in California. In a cross-sectional survey, collected between January 2016 and July 2017, participants reported substance use, lifetime experiences with SGM-related police discrimination, police mistrust, demographics and SGM visibility. In adjusted logistic regression models, we found a positive association between lifetime police discrimination and past-two-week heavy episodic drinking. Police mistrust also was positively associated with past-month marijuana use. Several significant interactions between lifetime police discrimination or police mistrust with other socially stigmatized identities including being African American, insecure housing, and being a gender minority on a few substance use outcomes suggest that effects of police discrimination and mistrust on substance use are stronger among participants with multiple stigmatized identities. Results suggest the importance of policies and interventions that focus on eliminating police discrimination and increasing police legitimacy to reduce risk of substance use among SGM individuals

    Following on from the First Report on Chicken Genes and Chromosomes [Schmid et al., 2000] and the Second Report in 2005 [Schmid et al., 2005], we are pleased to publish this long-awaited Third Report on the latest developments in chicken genomics. The First Report highlighted the availability of genetic and physical maps, while the Second Report was published as the chicken genome sequence was released. This report comes at a time of huge technological advances (particularly in sequencing methodologies) which have allowed us to examine the chicken genome in detail not possible until now. This has also heralded an explosion in avian genomics, with the current availability of more than 48 bird genomes [Zhang G et al., 2014b; Eöry et al., 2015], with many more planned
