    The Students’ Perceptions of Moodle-based LMS in English Learning

    This research aimed at investigating the students’ perceptions of Moodle-based LMS in English learning and the benefits of using Moodle for the students. There were 94 students or respondents from one of the private universities in Jakarta used to describe the data as well as to analyze it. The method used in this research was a survey with qualitative description. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The result showed that there were positive responses of the students dealing with Moodle-based LMS in online learning asynchronously. It was therefore expected that lecturers should have been able to develop and design more learning contents or materials and the activities to upload as online learning better in the future

    EFL Preservice Teachers’ Intrinsic Motivation in Writing Essays in a Blended Learning Environment

    This research was aimed to examine EFL preservice teachers’ intrinsic motivation in writing essays in a blended learning environment. The method used in this research was a survey with quantitative description of opinions. The participants were 45 EFL preservice teachers of Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka. The instrument was an online questionnaire to collect the data. The data were then analyzed with descriptive analysis to provide the mean and standard deviation. The results showed that EFL preservice teachers’ intrinsic motivations which include needs, interest, curiosity, and enjoyment were in high category. In other words, they have positive motivations in practicing to write essay in a blended learning environment. Thus, it was implied that it should have a boosting of maintaining EFL preservice teachers’ intrinsic motivation in writing essay in English for their better career and future

    Literacy Movement in Increasing Reading Interest of Elementary School Students

    The literacy movement and increasing interest in reading among students are essential educational challenges because literacy has a role in practice and social relations related to knowledge, Language, and culture. However, the problem of low literacy for Indonesian students still needs to be found. This study investigates the literacy movement in increasing the reading interest of students in elementary schools. The participants of this study are the students and the teachers at SDI PB Soedirman. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive, namely, conducting direct observations and interviews with several selected students and teachers. The study results show that library visits, watching educational films, and holding literacy competitions have increased students\u27 interest in reading, especially in grade IV. This activity can increase students\u27 interest in reading and train students\u27 courage in writing stories, speaking in public, or channelling their ideas. Thus, the literacy movement at SDI PB Soedirman should continuously be supported by adequate facilities and support from teachers so that the literacy movement can be channelled appropriately to students

    Designing Effective Online Learning Environments for Teacher Professional Development: Evidence from Indonesian In-Service Teachers

    The teacher profession education program (TPEP) within virtuality is an alternative learning program that is believed to be important for Indonesian in-service teachers nowadays and in the future as learning through digital technology is the competitiveness of the nation that needs to be continuously improved. This study aims to investigate Indonesian in-service teachers’ needs in the TPEP through online learning environments and to discover an effective design of online learning environment for TPEP in the future. The design used in this study was a mixed method with sequential explanatory design. For quantitative data, a questionnaire was distributed to the Indonesian in-service teachers attending the online TPEP over four months at a reputable private university in Indonesia, and 916 teachers completed the questionnaire. Meanwhile, the qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interview with selected Indonesia in-service teachers. The results indicate that online learning provides in-service teachers’ needs, and effective design is recommended for better professional development for in-service teachers in Indonesia. In addition, the qualitative feedbacks from participants regarding online learning environments identify several challenges. These findings suggest that the proposed design of online TPEP can be significantly implemented to meet the evolving needs of educators in an increasingly digital world

    At the primary school level, Indonesian language learning includes the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Descriptive writing requires creativity, but it is often considered boring due to the lack of innovative teaching methods. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of Canva-based picture series media in learning descriptive writing skills in one primary school. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, with the samples consisting of fourth-grade students at one state primary school in Cikarang, West Java, Indonesia. Quantitative data were collected through a writing test, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. Statistical descriptive and inferential analyses are used to measure quantitative data and a thematic analysis is used for qualitative analysis. The results show that Canva-based picture series media can significantly enhance students’ writing skills compared to conventional methods.     Narrative text is one of the writing types used by English teachers to provide to teach, and the use of narrative text is believed to be important for English teachers to apply in EFL English writing classroom. Thus, this study aims to explore the use of narrative texts in teaching English writing at secondary schools and investigate teachers' perceptions of its efficacy in enhancing students' writing skills. This qualitative research investigates the implementation of narrative texts in teaching writing in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms and explores teachers' perceptions of their use in improving students' writing skills. This research utilizes a qualitative descriptive research design to investigate the implementation of teaching writing through narrative texts and teachers' perceptions of their efficacy in improving students' writing skills. Data collection involved observations and semi-structured interviews with two experienced 10th-grade English teachers in one of reputable private senior high schools in Jakarta, Indonesia. This research highlights the paramount significance of incorporating narrative texts to enhance English writing proficiency among high school students. Despite teachers acknowledging their merits, challenges such as vocabulary constraints and translation hurdles persist. Nevertheless, narrative texts, particularly fairy tales, serve as catalysts for fostering students' creativity and critical analysis. Employing strategies that prompt critical inquiry is imperative. Consequently, narrative texts emerge as indispensable tools in high school English writing pedagogy, demanding innovative methodologies to surmount obstacles and elevate students' writing acumen effectively

    Hubungan Kecemasan dengan Kemampuan Mengajar Mahasiswa PGSD

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya hubungan kecemasan dengan kemampuan mengajar mahasiswa PGSD. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 33 orang mahasiswa dengan teknik purposive sampling. Metode yang digunakan adalah survei dengan teknik korelasional. Setelah data terdistribusi normal dan homogen berdasarkan uji normalitas dan uji homogenitas, dilanjutkan dengan uji korelasi pearson. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengujian hipotesis dilakukan dengan uji korelasi pearson dan diperoleh 0,928 > 0,05 dan ini berarti Ho diterima. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kecemasan dengan kemampuan mengajar mahasiswa. &nbsp

    In-service English teachers’ motivations in the Indonesian teacher profession education program

    To be certified as professional English teachers, Indonesian teachers must complete the teacher profession education program (TPEP) offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Due to a lack of discussion and research on the motivation of inservice English teachers participating in the TPEP, this study explored the TPEP-related motivation of in-service English teachers. There were 80 inservice English teachers who joined the TPEP at a reputable private university in Indonesia participated in this mixed-method study. A survey questionnaire was distributed to the in-service teachers to know their motivation regarding the TPEP. The findings indicated that the majority of the in-service English teachers were highly motivated to participate in the TPEP. They also thought that TPEP was beneficial for teachers as it enhanced their knowledge and skills in teaching. Through the TPEP they learned to use innovative strategies to teach English such as project-based learning and problem-based learning. This implies that more in-service English teachers should be encouraged to join TPEP to develop their competencies

    The Attitudes of Primary Teacher Education Program Students Towards Utilizing Flipgrid in English Speaking Skill

    This research was aimed at investigating the students’ attitudes of primary teacher education program (PTEP) towards utilizing Flipgrid in enhancing English speaking skill. The participants of this research were 60 students of PTEP in one of Muhammadiyah Universities located in Jakarta who attended an English course. The research used a mixed method to collect the quantitative and qualitative data to analyze. Thus, the instruments used were observation, questionnaire and semi-structure interview. The result showed that most of the students agreed to use Flipgrid in learning English speaking skill as this app had benefits and could motivate the students to practice speaking better as well as increased the students’ confidence. It is thus recommended that lecturers should be encouraged to use Flipgrid in English learning activity, mainly in speaking skill to boost the students to be more active to create videos and engage in interactions with lecturers and classmates mediated with video discussion forum.

    AN EVALUATION OF MERDEKA STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM FOR EFL INBOUND STUDENTS: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

    This study aims to evaluate the Merdeka Student Exchange Program for EFL inbound students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA). Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study explores the subjective experiences of exchange students while participating in the program. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with six inbound students from different universities in Indonesia. The findings revealed two main themes: challenges and benefits. Challenges included adjusting to a new environment, cultural differences, and communication styles. Students also reported several benefits, such as meeting new people from different backgrounds, exploring new places, and experiencing a different classroom environment with different teaching methods and facilities. Significantly, students experienced personal growth through an increased understanding of global diversity, intercultural skills, and the development of qualities such as critical thinking, adaptability, and openness to difference. These findings are consistent with the literature highlighting the personal development of student exchange programs. The Merdeka Student Exchange Program at UHAMKA was proven to be a valuable initiative in promoting academic mobility, enhancing students' skills and knowledge, and fostering personal development. This research confirms the importance of exchange program in preparing students to become qualified global citizens capable of navigating the complexities of an interconnected world
