Aún así, es difícil saber que composición es la más antiguaThe zortziko is a typical dance of the Basque Country, whereas the round dance in 5-8 is typical of Burgos and Soria. They are similar, but before deciding which of them is more ancient, it is necessary to determine if there are other dances of the same kind in the area. However, it is necessary to bear in mind that the history of part of Soria and Burgos is related to that of the Kingdom of Navarre as can be observed in the Basque influence of some village names in these provinces. Even so, it is difficult to ascertain which dance dates farther back into the pas

    Liberalism against Liberalism

    Get PDF
The defence of the market and economic freedom have been the main objectives of the investigations by liberal thinkers such as Milton Friedman, Gary Becker, F Hayek and L Von Mises. Bearing in mind that the first two economists are the maximum exponents of the Chicago School and the last two of the Austrian School, it is often concluded that the theories of both schools are similar. This book demonstrates that in reality, there is no convergence or complementariness to be found between both schools of thought. The anthropological categories, contributed by Mises, allow us to understand all human phenomena from the view of the man who acts. In this view, economics is part of a philosophical system whose core is the creative capacity of people. Becker’s work, on the other hand, is concentrated on the generalization of the homo economicus as the basis for explaining all human behaviour. He generalizes the maximizing principle to explain all human reality, and extends the scope of the application of a so-called scientific and technical view of the world. In this key volume, an important read for those in the fields of economic theory and political economy, Javier Aranzadi argues, in essence, that the tradition of Hayek and Mises encourages a humanistic liberalism, whereas the Chicago School proposes only a technical humanism

This paper focuses on the 19th century deportation of Ñáñigos (members of Abakuá, a Cuban secret  society) to Fernando Po (Bioko). I argue against the widely held negative image of this group as portrayed in the news and press information in Spanish newspapers from 1865 to 1950 that document the Cuban heritage in Africa. I highlight the point that the deportation of Nanigos to Africa was,in part, due to their association with,in part, due to their association with rebel groups in the decades and years prior to and during the War of Independence. Further, I pointed out the need of the Spanish Government to colonize the African island and use it to harbor expelled groups from the Caribbean island prosecuted for their rebellious character against the colony. As a result, many emancipated slaves1 and Cuban people were deported to Fernando Po in the second half of the nineteenth century, which explains their presence on the island. I discuss, in details, their memory, which has been maintained through some cultural elements - rituals, body attires, and musical and dance elements..Keywords: Ñáñigos, slave heritage, Bonkó ritual dance, Ñánkue ritual dance, initiation societies, Cuban deportee
