URGENSI BIMBINGAN KONSELING KARIR DENGAN PEMANTAPAN CITA-CITA PADA SISWA SMP DALAM MENGHADAPI ERA SOCIETY 5.0
The era of Society 5.0 is an era where the world will be directed or brought into concepts that apply technology. This article aims to determine: (1) the ability of students to recognize their talents and to know their aspirations, and (2) the urgency of student career counseling in facing the era of Society 5.0. The subjects of this study were 17 students at a public junior high school in Batang Regency, Central Java. Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be concluded that students have feelings that are aware of themselves and who they are that are fragile so these students have an attitude that is more inclined to depend on others and cannot recognize themselves well. So there is an urgency to provide guidance and direction given by the teacher, especially in providing an overview of goals and careers that have a relevant relationship with the abilities, advantages, and talents possessed by students in facing the Society 5.0 era because in this era it is possible that in In the next few years, the role of humans in overcoming several problems in people's lives can be replaced by technology

Improving Teachers’ Cognition of Academic Language Learning in Technology Education: A Design-based Research Project between Flanders and South Africa
Less than 11% of South African learners choose STEM subjects in higher education, although STEM is compulsory in junior high school. One reason is the difficulties many school learners have with English as the language of teaching as most of them have a different mother tongue. In Flanders the STaalvaardig project which consists of an online professional development programme, operates in a context where about 20% of the learners’ mother tongue is different from the language of teaching. As a result, Flemish teachers have become more aware of their cognitive academic language proficiency (CALP) which is needed for successful STEM education. Despite the ratio between English second language (ESL) learners and home language learners in South Africa (80:20) being a mirror image of the ratio in Flanders (20:80), the best practices of the STaalvaardig project in Flanders may hold affordances for a similar project within the South African context. The purpose of this paper is to identify such best practices and affordances. Online professional development has proven to be sustainable and stimulating in Flanders. The aim of a similar two-year project in South Africa which started in January 2020, is to improve technology teachers’ awareness and pedagogical knowledge about cognitive academic language in technology education. This will be done by adapting the existing STaalvaardig online environment to scaffold junior high school technology teachers’ CALP. The South African online programme will be piloted in five junior high schools where mainly ESL learners are being taught technology in English. The methodology will be design-based research. The findings indicate that the best practices associated with the STaalvaardig project may hold valuable affordances for a similar research-based project in South Africa in future, provided that the context is sufficiently taken into account. The successful implementation of such a project will be of crucial importance to support the teaching and learning of technology education in English in South Africa and to improve ESL as Language of learning and teaching (LOLT) in technology education
An instrument to determine the technological literacy levels of upper secondary school students
In this article, an instrument for assessing upper secondary school students’
levels of technological literacy is presented. The items making up the instrument emerged
from a previous study that employed a phenomenographic research approach to explore
students’ conceptions of technology in terms of their understanding of the nature of
technology and their interaction with technological artefacts. The instrument was validated
through administration to 1,245 students on completion of their 12 years of formal
schooling. A factor analysis was conducted on the data and Cronbach alpha reliability coefficients
determined. The results show that a five-dimension factor structure (namely,
artefact, process, direction/instruction, tinkering, and engagement) strongly supported the
dimensions as developed during the original phenomenographic study. The Cronbach
alpha reliability co-efficient of each dimension was satisfactory. Based on these findings,
the instrument has been shown to be valid and reliable and can be used with confidence
Mdct imaging before transcutanous aortic valve implantation: rationale and measurements
Since its introduction in 2002, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has assumed growing importance in the treatment of patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS), because it offers a much less invasive alternative for those in high risk for surgery. Good early results and advances in percutaneous valve technology have led to a substantial increase in procedural success rate and number of patients undergoing this less invasive treatment. Pre-procedural screening of several anatomic factors to assess the feasibility of this technique is important. Multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) is the technique of choice in assessing these factors. This technical note aims to describe and illustrate the key elements that need to be evaluated before the procedure
Transformation of human bronchial epithelial cells alters responsiveness to inflammatory cytokines
BACKGROUND: Inflammation is commonly associated with lung tumors. Since inflammatory mediators, including members of the interleukin-6 (IL-6) cytokine family, suppress proliferation of normal epithelial cells, we hypothesized that epithelial cells must develop mechanisms to evade this inhibition during the tumorigenesis. This study compared the cytokine responses of normal epithelial cells to that of premalignant cells. METHODS: Short-term primary cultures of epithelial cells were established from bronchial brushings. Paired sets of brushings were obtained from areas of normal bronchial epithelium and from areas of metaplastic or dysplastic epithelium, or areas of frank endobronchial carcinoma. In 43 paired cultures, the signalling through the signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) and extracellular regulated kinase (ERK) pathways and growth regulation by IL-6, leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), oncostatin M (OSM), interferon-γ (IFNγ) or epidermal growth factor (EGF) were determined. Inducible expression and function of the leukemia inhibitory factor receptor was assessed by treatment with the histone deacetylase inhibitor depsipeptide. RESULTS: Normal epithelial cells respond strongly to OSM, IFNγ and EGF, and respond moderately to IL-6, and do not exhibit a detectable response to LIF. In preneoplastic cells, the aberrant signaling that was detected most frequently was an elevated activation of ERK, a reduced or increased IL-6 and EGF response, and an increased LIF response. Some of these changes in preneoplastic cell signaling approach those observed in established lung cancer cell lines. Epigenetic control of LIF receptor expression by histone acetylation can account for the gain of LIF responsiveness. OSM and macrophage-derived cytokines suppressed proliferation of normal epithelial cells, but reduced inhibition or even stimulated proliferation was noted for preneoplastic cells. These alterations likely contribute to the supporting effects that inflammation has on lung tumor progression. CONCLUSION: This study indicates that during the earliest stage of premalignant transformation, a modified response to cytokines and EGF is evident. Some of the altered cytokine responses in primary premalignant cells are comparable to those seen in established lung cancer cell lines

Hypothalamic inflammation is reversed by endurance training in anorectic-cachectic rats
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Aim</p> <p>We tested the effects of a cancer cachexia-anorexia sydrome upon the balance of anti and pro-inflammatory cytokines in the hypothalamus of sedentary or trained tumour-bearing (Walker-256 carcinosarcoma) rats.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Animals were randomly assigned to a sedentary control (SC), sedentary tumour-bearing (ST), and sedentary pair-fed (SPF) groups or, exercised control (EC), exercised tumour-bearing (ET) and exercised pair-fed (EPF) groups. Trained rats ran on a treadmill (60%VO2max) for 60 min/d, 5 days/wk, for 8 wks. We evaluated food intake, leptin and cytokine (TNF-α, IL1β) levels in the hypothalamus.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The cumulative food intake and serum leptin concentration were reduced in ST compared to SC. Leptin gene expression in the retroperitoneal adipose tissue (RPAT) was increased in SPF in comparison with SC and ST, and in the mesenteric adipose tissue (MEAT) the same parameter was decreased in ST in relation to SC. Leptin levels in RPAT and MEAT were decreased in ST, when compared with SC. Exercise training was also able to reduce tumour weight when compared to ST group. In the hypothalamus, IL-1β and IL-10 gene expression was higher in ST than in SC and SPF. Cytokine concentration in hypothalamus was higher in ST (TNF-α and IL-1β, p < 0.05), compared with SC and SPF. These pro-inflammatory cytokines concentrations were restored to control values (p < 0.05), when the animals were submitted to endurance training.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Cancer-induced anorexia leads towards a pro-inflammatory state in the hypothalamus, which is prevented by endurance training which induces an anti-inflammatory state, with concomitant decrease of tumour weight.</p
