    Forestry machinery tires: test results

    Get PDF
In this paper, MLH-414 harvester is used as an example to analyze how the tire rate influences the distribution of responses between the wheels of logging machinery, stability of the process module, the power module and the multiple-function machine as a whole. The nominal tire rates are determined for harvesters to be used for various types of intermediate fellings

External force factors affecting a tree falling process: effect assessment

    Get PDF
The tree falling processes are analyzed for various average stem volumes and elastic damping properties of crowns. The response in a tilting ball-and-socket hinge of the shear-and-grapple unit is investigated as a function of tree preloading force, interaction between the branches of crowns, wind load and air environment. The effects of external force factors affecting the tree falling process are assessed

The silent but powerful communication of the physical environment of Nkozi campus of Uganda Martyrs University

    Get PDF
The purpose of this research was to find out what Uganda Martyrs University students think about the physical environment of the Nkozi campus, which is the main campus of the university with a view to find out if that factor can be used to market the university. Two sets of examination papers (one for second year and the other for first year students) were identified from the registry archives of the university because of their relevance to the topic of research. Initially, there was no certainty about the contents of these documents, but the titles of the pieces of work were suggestive enough to qualify them for selection. The documents were analysed using thematic analysis procedures. The findings indicate that most of the students have positive things to say about the beauty of their campus. In terms of student university selection process, the information found is very useful for Uganda Martyrs University in developing a marketing strategy that can be extended as far as senior one students. Since campus visits have been found to attract many students to specific universities, Uganda Martyrs University could develop a campus visit programme in which parents, potential students and other interested persons can experience the beauty of Nkozi campus. The current students could also be used to advertise the university since they know what the university can offer apart from the beautiful campus. It is recommended that Uganda Martyrs University develop a marketing strategy that has campus visits on top of the list of strategies to be adopted in increasing student intake

'Experts', 'partners' and 'fools': exploring agency in HIV treatment seeking among African migrants in London

    Get PDF
In an attempt to promote patient agency and foster more egalitarian relationships between patients and doctors, discourse concerning health and wellbeing in the UK has increasingly centred around the notion of informed and 'expert' patients who are able to effectively input into the direction and management of their own health care and treatment. While the relationship between a patient and their doctor can play a vital role in influencing the treatment decisions and health-related outcomes of people living with long term illness, little is known about the ways in which people living with HIV actually perceive their relationship with their doctors, nor the implications this may have for the types of treatment they may seek to use and the related information that they share. Drawing on 11 focus group discussions and 20 repeat interviews undertaken in 2008-2009 with HIV-positive adult migrants from Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa living in the UK, this paper argues that patient-doctor relationships can be heavily influenced by the perceived legitimacy of different forms of medical knowledge and treatments and by culturally influenced ideas regarding health, wellbeing and agency. Despite a desire amongst some migrants to use 'traditional' medicines from southern Africa as well as other non-biomedical treatments and therapies, the research found that the perceived lack of legitimacy associated with these treatments in the UK rendered their use a largely clandestine activity. At the same time, many patients made clear distinctions concerning issues affecting their immediate health and factors influencing their more general wellbeing, which in turn, impacted upon the information that they chose to share with, or conceal from, their doctors. Such findings challenge assumptions underpinning policy promoting patient agency and have significant and, in cases, potentially adverse implications for the safety and effective administration and management of HIV treatments in African migrant populations and possibly more generally. Schulz i Lille

Bruno Schulz visited Paris in August 1938. He wanted to organize there an exhibition of his works of art and for that reason he met, among others, Ludwik Lille, a graphic artist and a painter, member of an avant-garde group called “Artes.” In Lille’s archive, now held in the Polish Library in Paris, there are several texts written for the Polish Section of the French Radio. One of them is titled “On Bruno Schulz, a Poet and a Painter.” The entire text, which was presented on the radio, has been included in the present essay as an appendix. The other appendix is a reproduction of a photocopy of Meczysław Joszt’s portrait drawn by Schulz, which is now also in the holdings of the Paris Polish Library. The drawing was mistakenly published in 1969 by “Oficyna Poetów” and Schulz’s portrait drawn by Lille
