Background. Red rose extract is known to have anti-inflammatory and immune-modulation effects. In this study, the red rose extract was tested on CD4+T lymphocytes in vitro, and cytokine response was evaluated. Materials and Methods. The red rose (Rosa Rosaceae - Pierre de Ronsard) extract used in this study was prepared and stored at -20° C until use. CD4+T-cells were seeded in 96-well plates at 313,500 cells/well in 100μ l cell culture medium in duplicate. One-half of the wells were used for biomarker screening in the culture medium, and the other half was used for cytotoxicity assay. Twenty-four hours after plating, the cells were treated in duplicate with 100μ l of the red rose extract diluted at 0.5%, 0.1%, 0.05%, 0.01% and 0.005% (v/v) in the cell culture medium or with culture medium only as control for 72 hours. Some other wells were allocated for untreated cells, and cells treated with the rose extract at 0.005% for 48-h incubation time. Results. Several cytokines (GRO; IFN-γ; IL-1α, 6, 10; MCP-1; RANTES; TGF-β1; TIMP 1, 2; Ang1, Ang2; G-CSF; MMP-9; and VEGF R2) were elevated. Except for MMP-9, which had fold changes > 2, other cytokines were minimally elevated at various concentrations and timing of rose extract treatment. None of the mentioned cytokines were less than 0.8-fold after treatment with the rose extract. Cytotoxicity assay revealed insignificant changes in the viability of T-cells. Conclusions. There was a mild elevation in few inflammatory markers by CD4+ T-lymphocytes after in vitro treatment with the red rose extract (Rosa Rosacea - Pierre De Ronsard). Further in vitro and in vivo studies are required to evaluate the benefits of the red rose extract in immune regulation

BACKGROUND: Multifunctional nanoparticles are known for their wide range of biomedical applications. Controlling the magnetic properties of these nanoparticles is imperative for various applications, including therapeutic angiogenesis. AIM: The study was performed to evaluate the magnetic properties and their control mechanisms by the external magnetic field. METHODS: A100 nm magnetic nanoparticle was placed in the magnetic field, and parametrically, the magnet field strength and distance were evaluated. Various models of magnetic strength and disposition were evaluated. Magnetic flux density, force/weight, and magnetic gradient strength were the parameters evaluated in the electromagnetic computational software. RESULTS: The seven-coil method with three centrally placed coils as Halbach array, and each coil with a flux density of 7 Tesla, and with a coil dimension of 20 cm × 20 cm (square model) of each coil showed a good magnetic strength and force/weight parameters in a distance of 15 cm from the centrally placed coil. The particles were then evaluated for their motion characteristics in saline. It showed good displacement and acceleration properties. After that, the particles were theoretically assessed in a similar mathematical model after parametrically correcting the drag force. After the application of high drag forces, the particles showed adequate motion characteristics. When the particle size was reduced further, the motion characteristics were preserved even with high drag forces. CONCLUSION: There is potential for a novel method of controlling multifunctional magnetic nanoparticles using high magnetic fields. Further studies are required to evaluate the motion characteristics of these particles in vivo and in vitro

AIM: To safely perform angioplasties in acute coronary syndromes with low contrast volume using Cordis 6F diagnostic catheters and to perform mechanical bench tests on the diagnostic and guide catheters in a radial path model. METHODS: In 191 patients (242 lesions/268 stents) with acute coronary syndromes angioplasty were performed with cordis 6F diagnostic catheters. RESULTS: The lesions were present at left anterior descending (121), Left main (5), left circumflex (51), ramus (5) and right coronary artery (60). In 72% of cases, Iodixanol was used. All contrast injections were given by hand. Regular follow-up of the patients was performed at 30 days. The procedures were performed in the femoral route only. Pre-dilatation was performed in 43 cases. Successful revascularization of the target lesion was achieved in all cases. The mean contrast volume used per patient was 28 ml (± 8 ml). Mild reversible contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) was observed in two patients. Cardiogenic shock was seen in 7 cases, and one death was observed. Pushability and trackability tests showed good force transmission and hysteresis in diagnostic catheters compared to guide catheters. CONCLUSIONS: Angioplasty with stenting could be performed safely in patients using cordis 6F diagnostic catheters using a low volume of contrast in acute coronary syndromes. Low contrast volume usage would result in a lower incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy and cardiac failures
