Food security concept, condition and trends in Georgia

The concept of Food security cannot be considered under the context of a single country or even an entire region. This is the global one and requires a global attitude. Many international organizations coordinate and pay attention to the food security issues, especially in the developing countries, where this problem more or less exists. Agriculture represents a significant segment of the secure food for domestic consumption or export trade relies on uniform food policies and rocedures that are consistently enforced by Georgia, identify main obstacles, show relationship between the economic factors and food production, to assess the future proportion of undernourished persons, improve availability and quality of relevant food security information. This article presents a suite of food security indicators including in the Millennium Development Goal Indicator 5 on the prevalence of undernourishment at the national and sub national levels. The summarized findings cover a wide range of food security statistics which provide the analytical background for identifying and locating the food insecure population. It can be concluded from the findings that Georgia has a moderate level of undernourishment

Experiment Pamir-3. Coplanar emission of high energy gamma-quanta at interaction of hadrons with nuclei of air atoms at energies above 10 to the 7th power GeV

A systematic analysis of large gamma families, detected in X-ray emulsion chambers, cases of multicore halos have been observed, and among them five events in which the halo is divided into three of four separate cores with their alignment observed in the target diagram (coplanarity of axes of corresponding electron photon cascades). The halo alignment (tendency to the straight line) leads to the aximuthal asymmetry (thrust). The analysis of lateral and momentum distributions of particles in these families shows that they also have thrust that correlates with the direction of the halo core alignment

A novel cassette method for probe evaluation in the designed biochips

A critical step in biochip design is the selection of probes with identical hybridisation characteristics. In this article we describe a novel method for evaluating DNA hybridisation probes, allowing the fine-tuning of biochips, that uses cassettes with multiple probes. Each cassette contains probes in equimolar proportions so that their hybridisation performance can be assessed in a single reaction. The model used to demonstrate this method was a series of probes developed to detect TORCH pathogens. DNA probes were designed for Toxoplasma gondii, Chlamidia trachomatis, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, and Herpes virus and these were used to construct the DNA cassettes. Five cassettes were constructed to detect TORCH pathogens using a variety of genes coding for membrane proteins, viral matrix protein, an early expressed viral protein, viral DNA polymerase and the repetitive gene B1 of Toxoplasma gondii. All of these probes, except that for the B1 gene, exhibited similar profiles under the same hybridisation conditions. The failure of the B1 gene probe to hybridise was not due to a position effect, and this indicated that the probe was unsuitable for inclusion in the biochip. The redesigned probe for the B1 gene exhibited identical hybridisation properties to the other probes, suitable for inclusion in a biochip

To Reach the Clouds: Application of Topic Models to the Meta-review on Cloud Computing Literature

    Get PDF
Cloud computing remains an increasingly popular topic among practitioners as well as researchers. The literature spans across multiple disciplines, and the knowledge is fragmented and not systematized. To address this issue we apply topic models to conduct a meta-review on cloud computing. We identify twenty research topics across multiple disciplines, and demonstrate the use of the approach to conduct reviews in the field of information systems (IS). In additionally, we discuss multidisciplinary nature of cloud research, as well as research topics attracting contributions from various scientific fields.Peer reviewe

Outsourcing of Disaggregated Services in Cloud-Based Enterprise Information Systems

    Get PDF
In this paper, we examine outsourcing of disaggregated information-intensive services. Drawing on the theoretical streams of Global Information-Intensive Service Disaggregation and Transaction-Cost Economics, we formulate our research model to understand the phenomenon of disaggregation in the context of cloud computing. The model encompasses frequency, asset specificity, uncertainty, information intensity, and need for customer contact as characteristics of tasks that we use to explain the outsourcing of disaggregated services. We are especially interested in understanding the interplay between these characteristics and the increasingly popular cloud-based systems. Our results partially support previous research on the effects of characteristics on outsourcing. The main finding of the paper is impact of the cloud-based information systems on the interaction of these characteristics.Peer reviewe

The article reviews death penalty as a type of punishment that has been used in Georgia from the ancient times till the end of the 20thcentury. It contains a brief description of legislation in both feudal and soviet eras. The article also discusses the way Georgian state andlaw have been passed concerning the important issues such as rejection of death penalty as the capital punishment. Along with the Georgianexample, the research deals with experience in utilizing and abolishing of death penalty in the countries of former socialist block. The article provides the research results concerning the societal attitude towards the death penalty conducted by different organizationsin different periods of time. The research emphasizes international legislation, particularly international conventions and agreements that regulated and still regulatepossibility of use of death penalty in the civilized world. Namely, it is applied to crimes and cases that were committed for which internationallegislation allowed death penalty as a possible measure of punishment. The article also talks about the modern worldviews, argumentsoften presented by the supporters and opponents of the abolition of death penalty, principles of humanism and state competenceon using the capital punishment. In conclusion, the article stresses author’s opinion about the problematic issues

Why Cloud? - A Review of Cloud Adoption Determinants in Organizations

    Get PDF
Adoption of cloud computing in organizations is increasing at a rapid pace. It is expected that the majority of the organizations in industrialized nations will be using cloud services to some extent in the near future. In this review I categorize adoption factors utilized in the literature and identify determinants playing a key role in organizations’ decision to adopt cloud. I analyze both quantitative and qualitative evidence and code relationships between factors and adoption of cloud by systematically reviewing the literature. Findings show underrepresentation of the factors related to organization and external environment in cloud adoption literature. This study contributes a set of determinants of cloud adoption, which serves as a foundation for the future research and advancement of the theories in information systems field
