    Just-in-Time Memoryless Trust for Crowdsourced IoT Services

    We propose just-in-time memoryless trust for crowdsourced IoT services. We leverage the characteristics of the IoT service environment to evaluate their trustworthiness. A novel framework is devised to assess a service's trust without relying on previous knowledge, i.e., memoryless trust. The framework exploits service-session-related data to offer a trust value valid only during the current session, i.e., just-in-time trust.     The Capital Market is a means in which treasury securities are long-term traded. In Capital Markets, companies get funds relatively expensive, because the company does not have to pay the capital cost or the capital cost can be reduced. Securities traded in the in Capital Markets are shares which is the proof of ownership or possession of the shares. There are various factors that affect the price of shares. There are internal as well as external factors. The purpose of this research is to determine to what extent the internal factors Price Earning Ratio, Debt to Equity Ratio, Return on Assets, Price to BookValue ration affects the Stock Price of manufacturing companies that are listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the period of 2011- 2015. A total of 487 companies are listed in the IDX. The data used is secondary data. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression with a series of test. The results showed that PER, ROA, PBV and EPS have positive effect on the Stock Price; wheres only the EPS showed that it has a negative influence on the Stock Price. Altogether, all the variables used in this research showed that they have a significant influence to the Stock Price to the extent of 13.20 % only

    A Computational Analysis of Alternative Splicing across Mammalian Tissues Reveals Circadian and Ultradian Rhythms in Splicing Events

    Mounting evidence points to a role of the circadian clock in the temporal regulation of post-transcriptional processes in mammals, including alternative splicing (AS). In this study, we carried out a computational analysis of circadian and ultradian rhythms on the transcriptome level to characterise the landscape of rhythmic AS events in published datasets covering 76 tissues from mouse and olive baboon. Splicing-related genes with 24-h rhythmic expression patterns showed a bimodal distribution of peak phases across tissues and species, indicating that they might be controlled by the circadian clock. On the output level, we identified putative oscillating AS events in murine microarray data and pairs of differentially rhythmic splice isoforms of the same gene in baboon RNA-seq data that peaked at opposing times of the day and included oncogenes and tumour suppressors. We further explored these findings using a new circadian RNA-seq dataset of human colorectal cancer cell lines. Rhythmic isoform expression patterns differed between the primary tumour and the metastatic cell line and were associated with cancer-related biological processes, indicating a functional role of rhythmic AS that might be implicated in tumour progression. Our data shows that rhythmic AS events are widespread across mammalian tissues and might contribute to a temporal diversification of the proteome

    Styles of Swahili carving.

    As a woodcarver since the age of fifteen, I have been a keen observer of carving patterns and motifs practiced by contemporary Swahili wood carvers. In my investigations, I discovered that carvers along the coast of East Africa, do not practice a uniform style of carving, although their heritage was to a great deal influenced by Middle Eastern and Indian patterns. In Lamu, for instance, four styles of carving are applied to decorating doors and furniture. What I found astonishing, is that most contemporary Swahili wood carvers seem to be unaware of the differences in styles, especially with regard to their history and design features. Apparently, most of the patterns used by the contemporary wood carvers of the three prominent Swahili towns under discussion (Zanzibar, Mombasa, Lamu) are directly copied from doors that were made between 1700-1930. Most of these doors are known to have been introduced to the East African littoral by groups who settled in the region at different periods

    Atmospheric Processing Module for Mars Propellant Production

    The multi-NASA center Mars Atmosphere and Regolith COllector/PrOcessor for Lander Operations (MARCO POLO) project was established to build and demonstrate a methane/oxygen propellant production system in a Mars analog environment. Work at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Applied Chemistry Laboratory is focused on the Atmospheric Processing Module (APM). The purpose of the APM is to freeze carbon dioxide from a simulated Martian atmosphere containing the minor components nitrogen, argon, carbon monoxide, and water vapor at Martian pressures (approx.8 torr) by using dual cryocoolers with alternating cycles of freezing and sublimation. The resulting pressurized CO2 is fed to a methanation subsystem where it is catalytically combined with hydrogen in a Sabatier reactor supplied by the Johnson Space Center (JSC) to make methane and water vapor. We first used a simplified once-through setup and later employed a HiCO2 recycling system to improve process efficiency. This presentation and paper will cover (1) the design and selection of major hardware items, such as the cryocoolers, pumps, tanks, chillers, and membrane separators, (2) the determination of the optimal cold head design and flow rates needed to meet the collection requirement of 88 g CO2/hr for 14 hr, (3) the testing of the CO2 freezer subsystem, and (4) the integration and testing of the two subsystems to verify the desired production rate of 31.7 g CH4/hr and 71.3 g H2O/hr along with verification of their purity. The resulting 2.22 kg of CH4/O2 propellant per 14 hr day (including O2 from electrolysis of water recovered from regolith, which also supplies the H2 for methanation) is of the scale needed for a Mars Sample Return mission. In addition, the significance of the project to NASA's new Mars exploration plans will be discussed

    The Interplay between Colon Cancer Cells and Tumour-Associated Stromal Cells Impacts the Biological Clock and Enhances Malignant Phenotypes

    Cancer cells interrelate with the bordering host microenvironment that encompasses the extracellular matrix and a nontumour cellular component comprising fibroblasts and immune-competent cells. The tumour microenvironment modulates cancer onset and progression, but the molecular factors managing this interaction are not fully understood. Malignant transformation of a benign tumour is among the first crucial events in colorectal carcinogenesis. The role of tumour stroma fibroblasts is well-described in cancer, but less well-characterized in benign tumours. In the current work we utilized fibroblasts isolated from tubulovillous adenoma, which has high risk for malignant transformation, to study the interaction between benign tumour stroma and the circadian clock machinery. We explored the role of the biological clock in this interplay taking advantage of an experimental model, represented by the co-culture of colon cancer cells with normal fibroblasts or tumour-associated fibroblasts, isolated from human colorectal tumour specimens. When co-cultured with tumour-associated fibroblasts, colon cancer cells showed alterations in their circadian and metabolic parameters, with decreased apoptosis, increased colon cancer cell viability, and increased resistance to chemotherapeutic agents. In conclusion, the interactions among colon cancer cells and tumour-associated fibroblasts affect the molecular clockwork and seem to aggravate malignant cell phenotypes, suggesting a detrimental effect of this interplay on cancer dynamics

    Hyperlocal digital content profits: strategizing revenue generation for new vision podcasts

    This capstone project explores how traditional media houses can generate revenue from hyperlocal digital content, focusing specifically on podcasts. As consumer habits and advertising trends shift towards digital platforms; traditional media outlets face the challenge of reaching niche audiences and convincing advertisers to invest in digital advertising, particularly in the realm of podcasts. With the decline in physical newspaper readership, the digital wave has gained significant momentum, leading to a transition from traditional media to more accessible and fragmented platforms. This project aims to design a sustainable revenue-generating strategy for New Vision podcasts, addressing the unfamiliarity of producers, media executives, and consumers with this new digital product. Findings of reasons for not listening and not downloading New Vision podcasts reveal critical insights. A significant 48.9% cite a lack of awareness, emphasizing the need for robust promotion. Technical barriers, including website access issues (18.7%) and problems with the Vision Digital Experience App (12.4%). A significant portion of respondents desire news-related content (14.8%), followed by interest in business-related topics (11.0%) and sports commentary (9.8%). Educational content (8.5%) and crime and investigations (8.4%) also capture the audience\u27s intellectual and investigative curiosity. Males tend to favour the evening slot (6 pm to 8 pm), while females exhibit a similar inclination. The perspectives shared by industry experts highlight nuanced approaches, with targeted advertising identified as crucial by the Uganda Advertising Association, emphasizing alignment with audience interests for successful monetization. In contrast, the Marketing and Brand Manager at NSSF recommends utilizing podcasts primarily for communication, steering clear of traditional adverts to uphold listener engagement and meet communication and branding goals. In this study, a marketing project whose goal was to create awareness among media content consumers and build partnerships with advertisers was designed. It clearly outlines the key performance indicators that will be used to evaluate the performance of the project, it outlines the marketing tactics, the execution plan, a way to analyze monthly results and the project timelines
