Towards a CGIAR Resource Mobilization Strategy: Discussion Document Commissioned by PARC

Discussion paper prepared by a working group of the CGIAR Public Awareness and Resources Committee (PARC) in response to a call from the Consultative Council for a carefully thought out fund raising strategy. The paper identifies the components of a strategy, and raises resource mobilization issues which the working group thinks need to be resolved at a CGIAR level before an effective strategy can be designed and implemented. Report of the meeting of the Public Awareness and Resource Mobilization Committee (PARC) held the week prior to CGIAR International Centers Week, October 1994. The meeting's agenda included completing work on the Public Awareness and Resource Mobilization strategy paper, establishment of a task force to develop methodologies for impact assessment, and experimental fundraising from non-traditional sources.There are appended a budget for implementing the strategy, and a revised terms of reference for PARC, which consisted of four center directors, the chairs of the CGIAR Finance and Oversight Committees, the chair of the Public Awareness Association, and the Executive Secretary of the CGIAR

Discourse, justification and critique: towards a legitimate digital copyright regime?

Digitization and the internet have posed an acute economic challenge to rights holders in the cultural industries. Faced with a threat to their form of capital accumulation from copyright infringement, rights holders have used discourse strategically in order to try and legitimate and strengthen their position in the digital copyright debate with governments and media users. In so doing, they have appealed to general justificatory principles – about what is good, right, and just – that provide some scope for opposition and critique, as other groups contest their interpretation of these principles and the evidence used to support them. In this article, we address the relative lack of academic attention paid to the role of discourse in copyright debates by analysing user-directed marketing campaigns and submissions to UK government policy consultations. We show how legitimacy claims are justified and critiqued, and conclude that amid these debates rests some hope of achieving a more legitimate policy resolution to the copyright wars – or at least the possibility of beginning a more constructive dialogue

Cytotoxic chemotherapy for incurable colorectal cancer: living with a PICC-line

<b>Aims.</b> (i) To determine which aspects of living with a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line cause Modified de Gramont (MdG) patients most difficulty. (ii) To explore MdG patients' views of the PICC-line experience. (iii) To determine if patients view PICC-lines as a benefit or a burden when receiving ambulatory MdG chemotherapy. <b>Design.</b> A two-stage, descriptive study. <b>Methods.</b> Phase 1 comprised semi-structured interviews. Phase 2 surveyed the MdG population. Phase 1 interview data informed the Phase 2 questionnaire. The setting was a West of Scotland Cancer Care Centre and the sample was: Phase 1, a convenience sample of 10 MdG patients; Phase 2, 62 consecutive patients. <b>Results.</b> A response rate of 93·9% for Phase 2. The majority of PICC-line patients held favourable views towards having a PICC-line and adapted well with minimal disruption to daily life. Concerns were evident regarding coping at home with a PICC-line, chemotherapy spillage, dealing with complex information and the responsibility of patients/carers regarding PICC-line management. Patients preferred ambulatory chemotherapy to in-patient treatment. <b>Conclusions.</b> PICC-lines should be considered for more chemotherapy patients but service development is necessary to ensure individual needs are addressed. <b>Relevance to clinical practice.</b> Contributes to the PICC-line literature by providing a national patient perspective on a range of daily living activities (DLAs). PICC-line patients prefer out-patient ambulatory chemotherapy rather than in-patient treatment. The longer a patient has a PICC-line, the more able they are to manage activities such as dressing. Concerns remain over chemotherapy spillage, partner/carer responsibility for PICC-line maintenance and the proper balance between required information and what the patient wants to know

An organisation can be a legally constituted organisation which registers with government bodies or it can be an organisation by constitution alone. If an organisation makes a profit from selling things or else administers large sums of money, it must be legally constituted. Such an organisation would be called a closed corporation or a trust fund. If you want to write such a constitution, you should consult a lawyer for advice. Organisations such as civic organisations or advice offices are usually organisations by constitution alone. This means that there is a clause in the constitution which says the organisation has its own personality and that it can be sued or be in debt just like an ordinary person. This book will help those who want to write constitutions for organisations which are organisations by constitution alone

They could include: teaching your activists a skill, like running meetings or producing media; analysing a new political development e.g. an election or a new law; planning a programme of action or a campaign; evaluating the work you have done in the past year, or the work you have done for a campaign; sorting out internal problem like structures that are not appropriate or a break down in working relationships. Whatever the reason for your workshop, you need to make sure that the aim is clear right from the start. Before you begin planning, you need to sort out exactly why you are having the workshop and what you hope to achieve by having the workshop. If your aim is clear, you can go ahead with the planning. Seniors Teach Others Real Intergenerational Experiences (S.T.O.R.I.E.) Teacher Education Majors at the University of Northern Iowa are matched with senior adults residing at Western Home Communities. During their ten one-hour meetings, the students and residents are guided in their discussions by the book Gratitude: Affirming One Another through Stories (2013) written by UNI Emeritus Faculty, Dr. Len Froyen. Through conversations and stories, the seniors of both generations are enhancing their understanding, compassion and acceptance of each other. S.T.O.R.I.E. Impacts on Oak Ridge Landowners of Off-Site Releases to the Environment from the Y-12 Plant and Associated Long-Term Stewardship Issues

Past releases to the environment from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Y- 12 Plant have been of continuing concern to Oak Ridge and downstream communities since the release of mercury, uranium, and other contaminants were made public beginning in 1983. These releases continue to affect the region in many ways today. The intent of this report is to ensure we do not forget what has transpired in this community and to provide a clearer understanding of the impacts on local property owners, particularly those along the East Fork Poplar Creek (EFPC). This document is intended to serve as an all-inclusive reference document that can be used by community members and others interested in the DOE releases from Y-12. It particularly focuses on past releases via the EFPC. This report looks at impacts on EFPC property owners (e.g., economic and day-to-day land maintenance issues) and on members of the public (e.g., children who play in the floodplain or the creek and those who eat fish from the creek and/or downstream waterways). Also available for download are two appendices for works cited in this report. This research was completed money allocated during Round 2 of the Citizens’ Monitoring and Technical Assessment Fund (MTA Fund). Clark University was named conservator of these works.
