Two-component radiation model of the sonoluminescing bubble
Based on the experimental data from Weninger, Putterman & Barber, Phys. Rev.
(E), 54, R2205 (1996), we offer an alternative interpretation of their
experimetal results. A model of sonoluminescing bubble which proposes that the
electromagnetic radiation originates from two sources: the isotropic black body
or bramsstrahlung emitting core and dipole radiation-emitting shell of
accelerated electrons driven by the liquid-bubble interface is outlined.Comment: 5 pages Revtex, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Longitudinal Voxel-based morphometry with unified segmentation: evaluation on simulated Alzheimer’s disease
The goal of this work is to evaluate Voxel-Based Morphometry and three longitudinally-tailored methods
of VBM.We use a cohort of simulated images produced by deforming original scans using a Finite Element Method,
guided to emulate Alzheimer-like changes. The simulated images provide quite realistic data with a known pattern of
spatial atrophy, with which VBM’s findings can be meaningfully compared. We believe this is the first evaluation of VBM for which anatomically-plausible ‘gold-standard’ results are available. The three longitudinal VBM methods
have been implemented within the unified segmentation framework of SPM5; one of the techniques is a newly
developed procedure, which shows promising potential

The iterations are studied of the Darboux transformation for the generalized
Schroedinger operator. The applications to the Dym and Camassa-Holm equations

Mechanisms for Stable Sonoluminescence
A gas bubble trapped in water by an oscillating acoustic field is expected to
either shrink or grow on a diffusive timescale, depending on the forcing
strength and the bubble size. At high ambient gas concentration this has long
been observed in experiments. However, recent sonoluminescence experiments show
that in certain circumstances when the ambient gas concentration is low the
bubble can be stable for days. This paper presents mechanisms leading to
stability which predict parameter dependences in agreement with the

Backlund transformations for many-body systems related to KdV
We present Backlund transformations (BTs) with parameter for certain
classical integrable n-body systems, namely the many-body generalised
Henon-Heiles, Garnier and Neumann systems. Our construction makes use of the
fact that all these systems may be obtained as particular reductions
(stationary or restricted flows) of the KdV hierarchy; alternatively they may
be considered as examples of the reduced sl(2) Gaudin magnet. The BTs provide
exact time-discretizations of the original (continuous) systems, preserving the
Lax matrix and hence all integrals of motion, and satisfy the spectrality
property with respect to the Backlund parameter.Comment: LaTeX2e, 8 page
Assimilation of healthy and indulgent impressions from labelling influences fullness but not intake or sensory experience
Background: Recent evidence suggests that products believed to be healthy may be over-consumed relative to believed indulgent or highly caloric products. The extent to which these effects relate to expectations from labelling, oral experience or assimilation of expectations is unclear. Over two experiments, we tested the hypotheses that healthy and indulgent information could be assimilated by oral experience of beverages and influence sensory evaluation, expected satiety, satiation and subsequent appetite. Additionally, we explored how expectation-experience congruency influenced these factors.
Results: Results supported some assimilation of healthiness and indulgent ratings—study 1 showed that indulgent ratings enhanced by the indulgent label persisted post-tasting, and this resulted in increased fullness ratings.
In study 2, congruency of healthy labels and oral experience promoted enhanced healthiness ratings. These healthiness and indulgent beliefs did not influence sensory analysis or intake—these were dictated by the products themselves. Healthy labels, but not experience, were associated with decreased expected satiety.
Conclusions: Overall labels generated expectations, and some assimilation where there were congruencies between expectation and experience, but oral experience tended to override initial expectations to determine ultimate sensory evaluations and intake. Familiarity with the sensory properties of the test beverages may have resulted in the use of prior knowledge, rather than the label information, to guide evaluations and behaviour
Exactly Solvable Hydrogen-like Potentials and Factorization Method
A set of factorization energies is introduced, giving rise to a
generalization of the Schr\"{o}dinger (or Infeld and Hull) factorization for
the radial hydrogen-like Hamiltonian. An algebraic intertwining technique
involving such factorization energies leads to derive -parametric families
of potentials in general almost-isospectral to the hydrogen-like radial
Hamiltonians. The construction of SUSY partner Hamiltonians with ground state
energies greater than the corresponding ground state energy of the initial

Sonoluminescing air bubbles rectify argon
The dynamics of single bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL) strongly depends on the
percentage of inert gas within the bubble. We propose a theory for this
dependence, based on a combination of principles from sonochemistry and
hydrodynamic stability. The nitrogen and oxygen dissociation and subsequent
reaction to water soluble gases implies that strongly forced air bubbles
eventually consist of pure argon. Thus it is the partial argon (or any other
inert gas) pressure which is relevant for stability. The theory provides
quantitative explanations for many aspects of SBSL.Comment: 4 page
Factorization of non-linear supersymmetry in one-dimensional Quantum Mechanics. II: proofs of theorems on reducibility
In this paper, we continue to study factorization of supersymmetric (SUSY)
transformations in one-dimensional Quantum Mechanics into chains of elementary
Darboux transformations with nonsingular coefficients. We define the class of
potentials that are invariant under the Darboux - Crum transformations and
prove a number of lemmas and theorems substantiating the formulated formerly
conjectures on reducibility of differential operators for spectral equivalence
transformations. Analysis of the general case is performed with all the
