Affective Match: Leader Emotional Displays, Follower Positive Affect, and Follower Performance
Leader emotions may play an important role in leadership effectiveness. Extending this earlier research on leader emotional displays and leadership effectiveness, we propose that the “affective match†between follower positive affect (PA) and leaders’ emotional displays moderates the effectiveness of leader emotional displays. Leader display of emotions has more positive effects on follower behavior if the match between the valence of leader emotion and follower PA is strong rather than weak. Support for this hypothesis was found in two experiments. The congruency between leader emotional displays and follower PA determined follower task performance and extra-role compliance. Results from the second experiment indicated that this effect is due to the affective aspects of leader behavior and not to the valence of the content of the message.Emotions;Leadership Effectiveness;Positive Affect
Leader Affective Displays and Attributions of Charisma: The Role of Arousal
Research suggests that leader displays of positive affect are conducive to attributions of charisma. We qualify and extend this conclusion by arguing that this mainly holds for displays of positive affect that are associated with high levels of arousal. Results of a scenario experiment and a survey support this hypothesis, and show that besides the transfer of positive feelings per se, it is the transfer of arousal that mediates the relationship between leader affective displays and attributions of charisma.Arousal;Charisma;Leader Affect;Positive Feelings
Electron--Electron Scattering in Quantum Wires and it's Possible Suppression due to Spin Effects
A microscopic picture of electron-electron pair scattering in single mode
quantum wires is introduced which includes electron spin. A new source of
`excess' noise for hot carriers is presented. We show that zero magnetic field
`spin' splitting in quantum wires can lead to a dramatic `spin'-subband
dependence of electron--electron scattering, including the possibility of
strong suppression. As a consequence extremely long electron coherence lengths
and new spin-related phenomena are predicted. Since electron bands in III-V
semiconductor quantum wires are in general spin-split in zero applied magnetic

Ultrafast pump-probe dynamics in ZnSe-based semiconductor quantum-wells
Pump-probe experiments are used as a controllable way to investigate the
properties of photoexcited semiconductors, in particular, the absorption
saturation. We present an experiment-theory comparison for ZnSe quantum wells,
investigating the energy renormalization and bleaching of the excitonic
resonances. Experiments were performed with spin-selective excitation and
above-bandgap pumping. The model, based on the semiconductor Bloch equations in
the screened Hartree-Fock approximation, takes various scattering processes
into account phenomenologically. Comparing numerical results with available
experimental data, we explain the experimental results and find that the

Electric-Field Tuning of Spin-Dependent Exciton-Exciton Interactions in Coupled Quantum Wells
We have shown experimentally that an electric field decreases the energy
separation between the two components of a dense spin-polarized exciton gas in
a coupled double quantum well, from a maximum splitting of meV to
zero, at a field of 35 kV/cm. This decrease, due to the field-induced
deformation of the exciton wavefunction, is explained by an existing
calculation of the change in the spin-dependent exciton-exciton interaction
with the electron-hole separation. However, a new theory that considers the
modification of screening with that separation is needed to account for the
observed dependence on excitation power of the individual energies of the two

Spin degree of freedom in two dimensional exciton condensates
We present a theoretical analysis of a spin-dependent multicomponent
condensate in two dimensions. The case of a condensate of resonantly
photoexcited excitons having two different spin orientations is studied in
detail. The energy and the chemical potentials of this system depend strongly
on the spin polarization . When electrons and holes are located in two
different planes, the condensate can be either totally spin polarized or spin
unpolarized, a property that is measurable. The phase diagram in terms of the

Spin splitting in a polarized quasi-two-dimensional exciton gas
We have observed a large spin splitting between "spin" and
heavy-hole excitons, having unbalanced populations, in undoped GaAs/AlAs
quantum wells in the absence of any external magnetic field. Time-resolved
photoluminescence spectroscopy, under excitation with circularly polarized
light, reveals that, for high excitonic density and short times after the
pulsed excitation, the emission from majority excitons lies above that of
minority ones. The amount of the splitting, which can be as large as 50% of the
binding energy, increases with excitonic density and presents a time evolution
closely connected with the degree of polarization of the luminescence. Our
results are interpreted on the light of a recently developed model, which shows
that, while intra-excitonic exchange interaction is responsible for the spin
relaxation processes, exciton-exciton interaction produces a breaking of the

Spin polarization and magneto-luminescence of confined electron-hole systems
A BCS-like variational wave-function, which is exact in the infinite field
limit, is used to study the interplay among Zeeman energies, lateral
confinement and particle correlations induced by the Coulomb interactions in
strongly pumped neutral quantum dots. Band mixing effects are partially
incorporated by means of field-dependent masses and g-factors. The spin
polarization and the magneto-luminescence are computed as functions of the
number of electron-hole pairs present in the dot and the applied magnetic

An Australian longitudinal pilot study examining health determinants of cardiac outcomes 12 months post percutaneous coronary intervention
Background
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a very common revascularisation procedure for coronary artery disease (CAD). The purpose of this study was to evaluate cardiac outcomes, health related quality of life (HRQoL), resilience and adherence behaviours in patients who have undergone a PCI at two time points (6 and 12 months) following their procedure.
Methods
A longitudinal pilot study was conducted to observe the cardiac outcomes across a cohort of patients who had undergone a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Participants who had undergone PCI 6 months prior were invited. Those participants who met the inclusion criteria and provided consent then completed a telephone survey (time point 1). These participants were then contacted 6 months later (i.e. 12 months post-intervention, time point 2) and the measures were repeated.
Results
All patients (n = 51) were recorded as being alive at time point 1. The multiple model indicated that controlling for other factors, gender was significantly associated with a linear combination of outcome measures (p = 0.004). The effect was moderate in magnitude (partial-η2 = 0.303), where males performed significantly better than females 6 months after the PCI procedure physically and with mood. Follow-up univariate ANOVAs indicated that gender differences were grounded in the scale measuring depression (PHQ9) (p = 0.005) and the physical component score of the short form measuring HRQoL (SF12-PCS) (p = 0.003). Thirteen patients were lost to follow-up between time points 1 and 2. One patient was confirmed to have passed away. The pattern of correlations between outcome measures at time point 2 revealed statistically significant negative correlation between the PHQ instrument and the resilience scale (CD-RISC) (r = -0.611; p < 0.001); and the physical component score of the SF-12 instrument (r = -0.437; p = 0.054).
Conclusions
Men were performing better than women in the 6 months post-PCI, particularly in the areas of mood (depression) and physical health. This pilot results indicate gender-sensitive practices are recommended particularly up to 6 months post-PCI. Any gender differences observed at 6 month appear to disappear at 12 months post-PCI. Further research into the management of mood particularly for women post-PCI is warranted. A more detailed inquiry related to access/attendance to secondary prevention is also warranted
