A twist in chiral interaction between biological helices
Using an exact solution for the pair interaction potential, we show that
long, rigid, chiral molecules with helical surface charge patterns have a
preferential interaxial angle ~((RH)^1/2)/L, where L is the length of the
molecules, R is the closest distance between their axes, and H is the helical
pitch. Estimates based on this formula suggest a solution for the puzzle of
small interaxial angles in a-helix bundles and in cholesteric phases of DNA.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, PDF file onl
Symmetries of Electrostatic Interaction between DNA Molecules
We study a model for pair interaction of DNA molecules generated by the
discrete dipole moments of base-pairs and the charges of phosphate groups, and
find noncommutative group of eighth order of symmetries that leave
invariant. We classify the minima using group and employ
numerical methods for finding them. The minima may correspond to several
cholesteric phases, as well as phases formed by cross-like conformations of
molecules at an angle close to , "snowflake phase". The results
depend on the effective charge of the phosphate group which can be modified
by the polycations or the ions of metals. The snowflake phase could exist for
above the threshold . Below there could be several cholesteric
phases. Close to the snowflake phase could change into the cholesteric
one at constant distance between adjacent molecules.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

This thesis will focus implementing the principles and protocols of opening a wedding videography business.
Wedding videos have become big business and are an extension of wedding photography. Photographs capture isolated moments of the wedding day, where video can tie these moments together. I truly feel the wedding video is a keepsake many will cherish in the years to come.
This paper will first identify the processes of setting up a home based wedding videography business. Preparation is crucial to ensure the wedding day is taped according to the bride\u27s wishes. The videographer has an obligation to the bride. He needs to be aware of her needs and wishes for the video and plan accordingly. This process will include legalities, equipment needs, pricing, standard operating procedures, etc.
Secondly, once the setup process is completed it is time to implement advertising tactics, gain expe1ience, improve business and customer service procedures.
Once the setup process is complete, it is important to take a step back to examine and evaluate previous work experiences. Experience is key before diving into the business of wedding videography. No two weddings are alike, and each wedding requires different set-ups, shot sheets, lighting, etc. Before accepting pay for a video I suggest taping several weddings to insure there is an understanding of the different problems that can arise. At this point, the paper will examine three different wedding shots and analyze their individual requirements, setups, arising problems and solutions.
Finally, there will be discussions about the pros & cons of business ownership in both the general sense, and tailored to the wedding videography industry. Results have concluded that along with the skill required to complete the task, the owner must possess creativity, have organizational skills and be self- disciplined to make this business a success.
Lastly, the paper will conclude with an overview of implementing principles and protocols of starting a wedding videography business, and include brief discussions of its drawbacks and further tips for success

Dordrecht: Springer; 2007. p. 47-63. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/1-4020-5216-2_5The debate over how to analyze the concept of disease has often centered on the question of whether to include a reference to values, in particular the ‘disvalue’of diseases, or whether to avoid such notions. ‘Normativists,’such as King ([1954], 1981) and Culver and Gert (1982) emphasize the undesirability of diseases, while ‘Naturalists,’ most prominently Christopher Boorse (1977, 1987, 1997), instead require just the presence of biological dysfunction. The debate between normativism and naturalism often deteriorates into stalemate, with each side able to point out significant problems with the other. It starts to look as if neither approach can work. In this paper, I argue that the standoff stems from deeply questionable assumptions that have been used to formulate the opposing positions and guide the debate. In the end, I propose an alternative set of guidelines that offer a more constructive way to devise and compare theories
Suppression of Phase Separation in LiFePO4 Nanoparticles During Battery Discharge
Using a novel electrochemical phase-field model, we question the common
belief that LixFePO4 nanoparticles separate into Li-rich and Li-poor phases
during battery discharge. For small currents, spinodal decomposition or
nucleation leads to moving phase boundaries. Above a critical current density
(in the Tafel regime), the spinodal disappears, and particles fill
homogeneously, which may explain the superior rate capability and long cycle
life of nano-LiFePO4 cathodes.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figure
The MRN complex is transcriptionally regulated by MYCN during neural cell proliferation to control replication stress
The MRE11/RAD50/NBS1 (MRN) complex is a major sensor of DNA double strand breaks, whose role in controlling faithful DNA replication and preventing replication stress is also emerging. Inactivation of the MRN complex invariably leads to developmental and/or degenerative neuronal defects, the pathogenesis of which still remains poorly understood. In particular, NBS1 gene mutations are associated with microcephaly and strongly impaired cerebellar development, both in humans and in the mouse model. These phenotypes strikingly overlap those induced by inactivation of MYCN, an essential promoter of the expansion of neuronal stem and progenitor cells, suggesting that MYCN and the MRN complex might be connected on a unique pathway essential for the safe expansion of neuronal cells. Here, we show that MYCN transcriptionally controls the expression of each component of the MRN complex. By genetic and pharmacological inhibition of the MRN complex in a MYCN overexpression model and in the more physiological context of the Hedgehog-dependent expansion of primary cerebellar granule progenitor cells, we also show that the MRN complex is required for MYCN-dependent proliferation. Indeed, its inhibition resulted in DNA damage, activation of a DNA damage response, and cell death in a MYCN- and replication-dependent manner. Our data indicate the MRN complex is essential to restrain MYCN-induced replication stress during neural cell proliferation and support the hypothesis that replication-born DNA damage is responsible for the neuronal defects associated with MRN dysfunctions.Cell Death and Differentiation advance online publication, 12 June 2015; doi:10.1038/cdd.2015.81
Comment on the narrow structure reported by Amaryan et al
The CLAS Collaboration provides a comment on the physics interpretation of
the results presented in a paper published by M. Amaryan et al. regarding the
possible observation of a narrow structure in the mass spectrum of a
photoproduction experiment.Comment: to be published in Physical Review
Differential cross sections and recoil polarizations for the reaction gamma p -> K+ Sigma0
High-statistics measurements of differential cross sections and recoil
polarizations for the reaction have been
obtained using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. We cover center-of-mass
energies () from 1.69 to 2.84 GeV, with an extensive coverage in the
production angle. Independent measurements were made using the
() and () final-state topologies,
and were found to exhibit good agreement. Our differential cross sections show
good agreement with earlier CLAS, SAPHIR and LEPS results, while offering
better statistical precision and a 300-MeV increase in coverage.
Above GeV, - and -channel Regge scaling behavior
can be seen at forward- and backward-angles, respectively. Our recoil
polarization () measurements represent a substantial increase in
kinematic coverage and enhanced precision over previous world data. At forward
angles we find that is of the same magnitude but opposite sign as
, in agreement with the static SU(6) quark model prediction of
. This expectation is violated in some mid- and
backward-angle kinematic regimes, where and are of
similar magnitudes but also have the same signs. In conjunction with several
other meson photoproduction results recently published by CLAS, the present
data will help constrain the partial wave analyses being performed to search

Coherent Photoproduction of pi^+ from 3^He
We have measured the differential cross section for the
He reaction. This reaction was studied using
the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab. Real photons
produced with the Hall-B bremsstrahlung tagging system in the energy range from
0.50 to 1.55 GeV were incident on a cryogenic liquid He target. The
differential cross sections for the He
reaction were measured as a function of photon-beam energy and pion-scattering
angle. Theoretical predictions to date cannot explain the large cross sections
except at backward angles, showing that additional components must be added to
