Superhyperfine interactions in Ce3+ doped LiYF4 crystal: ENDOR measurements

The first observation of the resolved Mims electron-nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) spectra from the nearby and remote nuclei of 19F and 7Li nuclei on impurity Ce3+ ions in LiYF4 crystal is reported. It shows that LiYF4:Ce3+ system can be exploited as a convenient matrix for performing spin manipulations and adjusting quantum computation protocols while ENDOR technique could be used for the investigation of electron-nuclear interaction with all the nuclei of the system and exploited for the electron-nuclear spin manipulations.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, 1 Table. Inhomogeneity of the intrinsic magnetic field in superconducting YBa2Cu3OX compounds as revealed by rare-earth EPR-probe

X-band electron paramagnetic resonance on doped Er3+ and Yb3+ ions in Y0.99(Yb,Er)0.01Ba2Cu3OX compounds with different oxygen contents in the wide temperature range (4-120)K have been made. In the superconducting species, the strong dependencies of the linewidth and resonance line position from the sweep direction of the applied magnetic field are revealed at the temperatures significantly below TC. The possible origins of the observed hysteresis are analyzed. Applicability of the presented EPR approach to extract information about the dynamics of the flux-line lattice and critical state parameters (critical current density, magnetic penetration depth, and characteristic spatial scale of the inhomogeneity) is discussedComment: 17 pages, 5 Figures. Coherent spin dynamics of impurity Yb3+ ions in the CaWO4 single crystal has been studied using X - and W -band EPR. Rabi oscillations of the sample magnetization with damping times comparable to their period, driven by pulses of the microwave field with duration up to 5μs, were observed. The largest value of the single-qubit figure of merit (∼6400) is obtained for the high-field component in the Y 171 b X -band EPR spectrum. The spin-lattice relaxation time of the Yb3+ ions shortens with the increasing resonance frequency while the phase memory time, in contrast, grows noticeably. Variations of the phase memory times are interpreted in terms of spectral and instantaneous diffusions. The increase of the coherence time at the W band can be used for the application of rare-earth ions as qubits in quantum computing as it has been proposed recently. © 2009 The American Physical Society

45 patients in the acute period of ischemic stroke, aged 39–71 years were examined. All patients underwent: a study of neurological and somatic status, with verification of neurological deficit according to the NIHSS scale , to assess impairment of consciousness and coma, the Glasgow scale, to assess the degree of motor and daily activity using the Rankin and Barthel scale , to assess the recovery of motor deficit after a stroke, the APAT test was used . The use of TES in patients with stroke, regardless of the electrode application area, improves cognitive functions in naming objects, performing speech functions, which is accompanied by an increase in patients' motivation for rehabilitation and treatment and is reflected in an improvement in their quality of life

Temperature dependence of the EPR linewidth of Yb3+ - ions in Y0.99Yb0.01Ba2Cu3OX compounds: Evidence for an anomaly near TC

Electron paramagnetic resonance experiments on doped Yb3+ ions in YBaCuO compounds with different oxygen contents have been made. We have observed the strong temperature dependence of the EPR linewidth in the all investigated samples caused by the Raman processes of spin-lattice relaxation. The spin-lattice relaxation rate anomaly revealed near TC in the superconducting species can be assigned to the phonon density spectrum changesComment: 10 pages, 4 figures Renewed versio

Re-establishing glacier monitoring in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, Central Asia

Glacier mass loss is among the clearest indicators of atmospheric warming. The observation of these changes is one of the major objectives of the international climate monitoring strategy developed by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS). Long-term glacier mass balance measurements are furthermore the basis for calibrating and validating models simulating future runoff of glacierised catchments. This is essential for Central Asia, which is one of the driest continental regions of the Northern Hemisphere. In the highly populated regions, water shortage due to decreased glacierisation potentially leads to pronounced political instability, drastic ecological changes and endangered food security. As a consequence of the collapse of the former Soviet Union, however, many valuable glacier monitoring sites in the Tien Shan and Pamir Mountains were abandoned. In recent years, multinational actors have re-established a set of important in situ measuring sites to continue the invaluable long-term data series. This paper introduces the applied monitoring strategy for selected glaciers in the Kyrgyz and Uzbek Tien Shan and Pamir, highlights the existing and the new measurements on these glaciers, and presents an example for how the old and new data can be combined to establish multi-decadal mass balance time series. This is crucial for understanding the impact of climate change on glaciers in this region

Evaluation of Erosion Intensity and Dynamics Using Terrestrial Laser Scanning

© 2018, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. A new method of instrumental measurement of the intensity of rill and linear erosion on slopes by the method of terrestrial laser scanning is proposed. This method was tested on four plots in 2012–2016 with the use of Trimble™ GX, Trimble™ VX, and Trimble™ TX8 laser scanners. The terrestrial laser scanning is characterized by a high precision and rapidity, which could not be previously achieved by other devices. It has a number of advantages: registration of various types of erosion of temporary water streams; measurements from a distance without the disturbance of the studied surface and providing the safety of works; and calculations of morphometric parameters of slope using a high-precision digital model of topography. The given examples show that this approach may be applied to assess the denudation-accumulative balance of the moved soil material on slopes, to determine the dynamics of amount of deposits on different parts of a slope as a result of different kinds of surface runoff, and to identify spatial regularities of the formation of the network of rills and gullies. In addition, laser scanning makes it possible to perform an integral assessment of the combined impact of the entire combination of exogenous processes developed on slopes and affecting the soil cover. The observations on test plots showed a rather great role of autumn rains in the total soil loss from erosion. The data obtained were used as the basis for the elaboration of practical recommendations concerning the survey organization and monitoring of erosion with the use of laser scanning

© 2016,International Journal of Pharmacy and Technology. All rights reserved.Assesment of the intensity of soil erosion is a crucial challenge of modern geomorphology. Despite the fact that there are a number of methods of studying exogenous processes, such as assessment of intensity by rill wash, pins method, radioactive tracer method, the problem of quantitative assessment of erosion intensity in various sections of a temporary hydrographic net remains still unsettled. Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) allows overcoming the difficulties associated with low productivity and accuracy of traditional methods. Operations on erosion intensity assessment were carried out on two key sites within the city of Kazan in 2013-2015,and on two sites in Vysokogorsky district of Kazan in 2015. The results of the measurements show the predominance of erosion (-37.69 m3/ha on the first and -86.53 m3/ha on the second key site) on the slope in Kazan and the predominance of accumulation (53.45 m3/ha on the first and 71.66 m3/ha on the second key area) in Vysokogorsky district of Kazan. The results obtained suggest the possibility of applying the TLS for a quantitative and qualitative assesment of the intensity of denudation, and determination of the process flow patterns. The method allows evaluating integrally the cumulative effect of the entire complex of exogenous processes, flowing on the slopes
