Achieving provider engagement: providers' perceptions of implementing and delivering integrated care
The literature on integrated care is limited with respect to practical learning and experience. Although some attention has been paid to organizational processes and structures, not enough is paid to people, relationships, and the importance of these in bringing about integration. Little is known, for example, about provider engagement in the organizational change process, how to obtain and maintain it, and how it is demonstrated in the delivery of integrated care. Based on qualitative data from the evaluation of a large-scale integrated care initiative in London, United Kingdom, we explored the role of provider engagement in effective integration of services. Using thematic analysis, we identified an evolving engagement narrative with three distinct phases: enthusiasm, antipathy, and ambivalence, and argue that health care managers need to be aware of the impact of professional engagement to succeed in advancing the integrated care agenda
Performance of discrete heat engines and heat pumps in finite time
The performance in finite time of a discrete heat engine with internal
friction is analyzed. The working fluid of the engine is composed of an
ensemble of noninteracting two level systems. External work is applied by
changing the external field and thus the internal energy levels. The friction
induces a minimal cycle time. The power output of the engine is optimized with
respect to time allocation between the contact time with the hot and cold baths
as well as the adiabats. The engine's performance is also optimized with
respect to the external fields. By reversing the cycle of operation a heat pump
is constructed. The performance of the engine as a heat pump is also optimized.
By varying the time allocation between the adiabats and the contact time with
the reservoir a universal behavior can be identified. The optimal performance
of the engine when the cold bath is approaching absolute zero is studied. It is
found that the optimal cooling rate converges linearly to zero when the

L\'evy Distribution of Single Molecule Line Shape Cumulants in Low Temperature Glass
We investigate the distribution of single molecule line shape cumulants,
, in low temperature glasses based on the sudden jump,
standard tunneling model. We find that the cumulants are described by L\'evy
stable laws, thus generalized central limit theorem is applicable for this

The bimodality of the 10k zCOSMOS-bright galaxies up to z ~ 1: a new statistical and portable classification based on the optical galaxy properties
Our goal is to develop a new and reliable statistical method to classify
galaxies from large surveys. We probe the reliability of the method by
comparing it with a three-dimensional classification cube, using the same set
of spectral, photometric and morphological parameters.We applied two different
methods of classification to a sample of galaxies extracted from the zCOSMOS
redshift survey, in the redshift range 0.5 < z < 1.3. The first method is the
combination of three independent classification schemes, while the second
method exploits an entirely new approach based on statistical analyses like
Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Unsupervised Fuzzy Partition (UFP)
clustering method. The PCA+UFP method has been applied also to a lower redshift
sample (z < 0.5), exploiting the same set of data but the spectral ones,
replaced by the equivalent width of H. The comparison between the two
methods shows fairly good agreement on the definition on the two main clusters,
the early-type and the late-type galaxies ones. Our PCA-UFP method of
classification is robust, flexible and capable of identifying the two main
populations of galaxies as well as the intermediate population. The
intermediate galaxy population shows many of the properties of the green valley
galaxies, and constitutes a more coherent and homogeneous population. The
fairly large redshift range of the studied sample allows us to behold the
downsizing effect: galaxies with masses of the order of Msun
mainly are found in transition from the late type to the early type group at
, while galaxies with lower masses - of the order of Msun -
are in transition at later epochs; galaxies with Msun did not

Electronic Coherence Dephasing in Excitonic Molecular Complexes: Role of Markov and Secular Approximations
We compare four different types of equations of motion for reduced density
matrix of a system of molecular excitons interacting with thermodynamic bath.
All four equations are of second order in the linear system-bath interaction
Hamiltonian, with different approximations applied in their derivation. In
particular we compare time-nonlocal equations obtained from so-called
Nakajima-Zwanzig identity and the time-local equations resulting from the
partial ordering prescription of the cummulant expansion. In each of these
equations we alternatively apply secular approximation to decouple population
and coherence dynamics from each other. We focus on the dynamics of intraband
electronic coherences of the excitonic system which can be traced by coherent
two-dimensional spectroscopy. We discuss the applicability of the four
relaxation theories to simulations of population and coherence dynamics, and
identify features of the two-dimensional coherent spectrum that allow us to
distinguish time-nonlocal effects.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure
Fuzzy cluster validation using the partition negentropy criterion

It is a cluster validity index that rewards the average normality of the clusters, measured by means of the negentropy, and penalizes the overlap, measured by the partition entropy. The PNC is aimed at finding well separated clusters whose shape is approximately Gaussian. We use the new index to validate fuzzy partitions in a set of synthetic clustering problems, and compare the results to those obtained by the AIC, BIC and ICL criteria. The partitions are obtained by fitting a Gaussian Mixture Model to the data using the EM algorithm. We show that, when the real clusters are normally distributed, all the criteria are able to correctly assess the number of components, with AIC and BIC
allowing a higher cluster overlap. However, when the real cluster distributions are not Gaussian (i.e. the distribution assumed by the mixture model) the PNC outperforms the other indices, being able to correctly
evaluate the number of clusters while the other criteria (specially AIC and BIC) tend to overestimate it.This work has been partially supported with funds from

Survival and residence times in disordered chains with bias
We present a unified framework for first-passage time and residence time of
random walks in finite one-dimensional disordered biased systems. The
derivation is based on exact expansion of the backward master equation in
cumulants. The dependence on initial condition, system size, and bias strength
is explicitly studied for models with weak and strong disorder. Application to
