Integrated Soil Fertility Management: Contributions of framework and practices to climate-smart agriculture
Updated on 13/09/2016. Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) is a set of practices related to cropping, fertilizers, organic resources and other amendments on smallholder farms to increase production and input use efficiency. ISFM delivers productivity gains, increased resilience, and mitigation benefits. ISFM benefits food security and incomes enhances yield stability in rainfed systems, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from soils and fertilizers making it of value to climate-smart agriculture
CDPS-IoT: Cardiovascular Disease Prediction System Based on IoT using Machine Learning.
Internet of Things, Machine learning, and Cloud computing are the emerging domains of information communication and technology. These techniques can help to save the life of millions in the medical assisted environment and can be utilized in health-care system where health expertise is less available. Fast food consumption increased from the past few decades, which makes up cholesterol, diabetes, and many more problems that affect the heart and other organs of the body. Changing lifestyle is another parameter that results in health issues including cardio-vascular diseases. Affirming to the World Health Organization, the cardiovascular diseases, or heart diseases lead to more death than any other disease globally. The objective of this research is to analyze the available data pertaining to cardiovascular diseases for prediction of heart diseases at an earlier stage to prevent it from occurring. The dataset of heart disease patients was taken from Jammu and Kashmir, India and stored over the cloud. Stored data is then pre-processed and further analyzed using machine learning techniques for the prediction of heart diseases. The analysis of the dataset using numerous machines learning techniques like Random Forest, Decision Tree, Naive based, K-nearest neighbors, and Support Vector Machine revealed the performance metrics (F1 Score, Precision and Recall) for all the techniques which shows that Naive Bayes is better without parameter tuning while Random Forest algorithm proved as the best technique with hyperparameter tuning. In this paper, the proposed model is developed in such a systematic way that the clinical data can be obtained through the use of IoT with the help of available medical sensors to predict cardiovascular diseases on a real-time basis
4-(o-Tolyl)piperazin-1-ium chloride
In the title molecular salt, C11H17N2
+·Cl−, the piperazin-1-ium ring adopts a chair conformation with the aromatic ring in a pseudo-equatorial orientation. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring and the mean plane of the piperazin-1-ium ring is 51.22 (6)°. In the crystal, N—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the molecules into chains propagating in [100]. Weak C—H⋯π interactions also ocur
The Ripple Effects When a Refugee Camp Becomes a University Town: University Teacher Education in Dadaab, Kenya
Dadaab, Kenya is the site of the first university teacher education program created by a consortium of institutions (UBC, York, Moi, Kenyatta) within the Borderless Higher Education for Refugees. Dadaab is also the host town to what has been described as the largest protracted refugee camp, at its peek nearly a half million residents. Here, four program graduates, who are secondary school teachers in Daddab tell their stories of the impact that their education diploma and degrees have had on them and their communities. Their stories are of leadership, resilience, and hope
2-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-oxoethyl anthracene-9-carboxylate
In the title compound, C23H15BrO3, the anthracene ring system is essentially planar [maximum deviation = 0.29 (2) Å] and makes a dihedral angle of 5.74 (8)° with the mean plane of the bromo-substituted benzene ring. An intramolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bond generates an S(9) ring motif. In the crystal, molecules are linked by C—H⋯O interactions, forming a two-dimensional network parallel to the ac plane. π–π stacking interactions are observed between benzene rings [centroid–centroid distances = 3.5949 (14) and 3.5960 (13) Å]
Study of the Relationship Between Flammability and Melt Rheological Properties of Flame-Retarded Poly(Butylene Terephthalate) Containing Nanoclays
Potential Anticorrosive Effect of Hexamethylenediamine Penta(methylphosphonic) Acid on Carbon Steel in Hydrochloric Acid Solution
The inhibition ability of Hexamethylenediamine penta(methylphosphonic) acid (HTMP) against carbon steel corrosion in 1 M HCl at 30°C was evaluated by weight loss, electrochemical (potentiodynamic and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, EIS) methods. The experimental results showed that HTMP was a good inhibitor for the steel corrosion in 1 M HCl medium and its inhibition efficiency increased with the inhibitor concentration. Data, obtained from ac impedance measurements, were analyzed to model the corrosion inhibition process through appropriate equivalent circuit models. Adsorption of HTMP on the carbon steel surface followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Surface analysis by (SEM) supported the formation of a protective inhibitor film on the carbon steel surface. Furthermore, the theoretical study was carried out using the density functional theory (DFT) metho
Potential of Grain Legume Fallows to Address Food Insecurity and Boost Household Incomes in Western Kenya
A pigeonpea fallow-maize crop rotation trial was carried out over a period of 4 seasons in western
Kenya. The trial compared six high altitude long duration pigeonpea varieties i.e. ICEAP 00020,
ICEAP 00040, ICEAP 00048, ICEAP 00053, ICP 9145 and ICP 13076 and a medium duration
variety i.e. ICP 13211 for productivity, post fallow maize crop yield and financial returns
indicators. Long duration pigeonpea varieties take 140-180 days to mature while medium duration
varieties take >200 days to mature. Continuous maize cropping acted as a control. Depending on
the variety, pigeonpea grain yield ranged between 1.3 and 1.9 t ha-1. Post fallow maize grain yield
from each of pigeonpea variety plot was approximately 3 fold higher than yield from continuous
maize plots. The medium duration pigeonpea plots yielded significantly higher maize grain than
the long duration (ICEAP 00053, ICEAP 00040) pigeonpea variety plots. Relative to the control,
incremental returns to land were highest for medium duration pigeonpea fallow plots (619
USD ha-1) and lowest for ICEAP 00040 fallow plots (305 USD ha-1). We estimated that by
selecting an appropriate pigeonpea variety for a fallow-maize rotation system, a household could
produce sufficient food for consumption and remain with a surplus of approximately 2.8 tons for
sale. For widespread adoption of pigeonpea based technologies in western Kenya, there is a need
for policy improvement on issues related to improved seed production systems, cost of fertilizers,
extension services, and market for the end products
4-(3-Chlorophenyl)-3-[(2,6-difluorobenzyl)sulfanyl]-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole
In the title compound, C24H20ClF2N3O3S, the essentially planar triazole ring (r.m.s. deviation = 0.001 Å) forms dihedral angles of 22.35 (10), 68.17 (10) and 42.01 (10)° with the mean planes of the trimethoxyphenyl, chlorophenyl and difluorophenyl rings, respectively. A weak intramolecular C—H⋯π interaction occurs. In the crystal, molecules are linked into sheets lying parallel to the bc plane by C—H⋯O and C—H⋯N hydrogen bonds. The crystal packing also features weak C—H⋯π interactions
