O discurso dos #ProtestosBR: análise de conteúdo do Twitter
This paper focus on an analysis of the discourse of Twitter messages during the protests in Brazil during June 2013. Our objective is to discuss how the concepts relate to each other and form networks of meanings around the tweets about the protests. Our search for common characteristics and elements reveals how Twitter was used to describe the protests and to mobilize people rather than to discuss what was actually taking place. We describe the key actors, contexts and demands, as well as the focus on live narratives, #pamphleteer hashtags, and the specific location of tweets
Challenges of Early Years leadership preparation: a comparison between early and experienced Early Years practitioners in England
Leadership has been under-researched in the Early Years (EY) sector of primary schools in England, especially in leading change for professional development. The aim of this paper is to theorise what the leadership culture for EY practitioners looks like, and how Initial Teacher Training providers and schools are preparing practitioners for leadership. Using case studies of EY practitioners in different stages of their career in primary schools, we offer an insight into their preparedness for leadership in EY, the implication being that leadership training requires an understanding and embedding of the EY culture and context. Interviews with both sample groups allowed for deeper insight into the lived world. Interviews were also conducted with the head teachers to gain an overview of the leadership preparation they provided. The main findings suggest that newer EY practitioners are better prepared for leadership from their university training in comparison to more experienced EY practitioners
Permeating the social justice ideals of equality and equity within the context of Early Years: challenges for leadership in multi-cultural and mono-cultural primary schools
The ideology and commitment of social justice principles is central to Early Years practice, however, the term social justice in education is complex and remains contested. This paper explores the ideology of social justice through links between equality and equity and how it is embedded within Early Years, and what remain the potential challenges for leadership. Interviews in English multi-cultural and mono-cultural primary schools were conducted. Findings showed that the ideology of social justice, equality and equity was interpreted differently. Multi-cultural schools appear to use a greater variety of activities to embed social justice principles that involved their diverse communities more to enrich the curriculum. In mono-cultural schools leadership had to be more creative in promoting equality and equity given the smaller proportion of their diverse pupil and staff population. Tentative conclusions suggest that the vision for permeating equality and equity in Early Years, at best, is at early stages
AWARENESS OF MUTUAL FUND INVESTMENT AMONG THE INVESTORS – AN EMPIRICAL STUDY
Capital market has been strengthened due to because of increase in investment in mutual funds by small and medium investors. Most of the investors are having awareness about mutual funds and its benefits like tax benefits, less risk, cost etc. The mutual fund industry in India has undergone a most successful phase in the last 15 years. The growth in number of schemes offered by Indian mutual funds from 403 schemes in 2002-03 to 1294 schemes in 2011-12 has shown the inclination of investors towards mutual funds. The resources mobilized by public sector funds is Rs. 314706 crore in 2002-03 and reached to a high of Rs.10, 019,023 crore in 2009-10 of which the share of public sector mutual fund is around 80 percent of the total fund mobilized. The present study is an endeavour to know the awareness of investors about mutual funds
IDENTIFICATION OF AMPC Î’-LACTAMASE-PRODUCING CLINICAL ISOLATES OF ESCHERICHIA COLI
Objective: Indiscriminate use of β-lactam antibiotics has resulted in the emergence of β-lactamase enzymes. AmpC β-lactamases, in particular, confer resistance to penicillin, first-, second-, and third-generation cephalosporins as well as monobactams and are responsible for antibiotic resistance in nosocomial pathogens. Therefore, this study was undertaken to screen nosocomial Escherichia coli isolates for the presence and characterization of AmpC β-lactamases. The study also envisaged on the detection of inducible AmpC β-lactamases and extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) in AmpC β-lactamase-producing E. coli. Methods: A total of 102 clinical isolates of E. coli, were subjected to cefoxitin screening, and screen-positive isolates were further subjected to inhibitor-based detection method, phenotypic confirmatory test, disc antagonism test, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and isoelectric focusing (IEF).Results: In this study, 33% of E. coli were resistant to cefoxitin, of which 35% were found to be positive for AmpC β-lactamase by inhibitor-based phenotypic test. Of the AmpC-positive isolates, 83% were positive for ESBLs, whereas 25% were producing inducible AmpC β-lactamases. PCR and IEF showed CIT and EBC types of AmpC β-lactamases present in the tested isolates. Conclusion: Our study showed the presence of inducible AmpC enzymes and ESBLs in E. coli isolates and PCR identified more isolates to be AmpC producers
Maternal grandmothers with advanced age reproduction are more likely to have Down syndrome grandchildren
Down syndrome (DS), trisomy 21, is the most common chromosomal syndrome that affects one in 600-800 live births. The advanced maternal age is the only well known risk factor to cause DS. Our study revealed that many young mothers produced DS children than advanced age mothers in India. A total of 150 suspected DS cases were investigated cytogenetically. Randomly selected 200 healthy families in South India were used as controls. Logistic regression was performed on case-control dataset which was generated by randomly selecting the child from each of the control families. Pedigree analyses indicated that the maternal grandmothers had advanced age during conception of their daughters who gave birth to DS child. Case-control status was used as dependent variable, whereas parental and grandparental age was used as covariates. Logistic regression was reported as odds ratios, univariate and multivariate. The age of maternal grandmother showed highly significant difference in odds ratio, indicating that the advanced age of maternal grandmother was the possible risk factor. Therefore, it is important to sort-out the effect of advanced age mothers vs grandmothers on increased frequency of DS reported in different populations
Farmers’ perception of the effectiveness of advisory services provided by input dealers in Andhra Pradesh
Agriculture is the cornerstone of the economies of many developing countries with a large proportion of the population relying on farming as their primary livelihood. Many farmers struggle to access timely and accurate agricultural information, especially regarding inputs like seeds, fertilizers and pesticides. Public extension services often fall short, making input dealers a crucial source of advice. This study examines the effectiveness of advisory services provided by input dealers in the Kurnool and Anantapur districts of Andhra Pradesh, India, focusing on farmers’ perceptions and the factors influencing those perceptions. A sample of 120 farmers was selected using simple random sampling in the study area. Data were collected through a structured interview schedule and responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests. Most of the farmers perceived that input dealers advisory services were moderately effective (50 %). The results indicate that farmers’ value input dealers advisory services mainly for their practical outcomes like yield maximization, pest control and enhancement in profitability. Key factors affecting farmers’ perception on the effectiveness of input dealers advisory services were economic motivation, innovativeness, information seeking behavior, annual income and farm size. This study underscores the importance of input dealers offering customized, high quality advisory services that align with farmers specific needs and economic objectives, ultimately fostering better agricultural practices and stronger dealer farmer relationships

Consumer Willingness to Pay (WTP) for Pesticide-Free Vegetables in Palakkad District of Kerala, India
Aims: To find the Willingness To Pay (WTP) for pesticide-free vegetables by the consumers of Palakkad district in Kerala and the factors influencing the decision.
Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted in the Palakkad district of Kerala, between March 2022 and December 2022.
Methodology: A sample of 80 consumers spread across the district was randomly selected. The factors influencing the WTP behaviour of the consumers were analysed using a logistic regression model with WTP as the dependent variable and annual income, awareness regarding the presence of pesticide residues, education, food habit, and type of market as exogenous variables.
Results: Out of 80 respondents, 54 of them (67.50 %) expressed their WTP for pesticide-free vegetables. The logit model analysis indicated the annual income of the consumers, education level and awareness of the respondents regarding the presence of pesticide residues were significantly influencing the WTP decision.
Conclusion: The positive responses from consumers towards pesticide-free vegetables could be used as a driving force for farmers to produce and market the same in the study area if they ensure proper marketing focused on awareness promoting programmes on pesticide residues and by establishing the authenticity of the produce's origin
IRIS study: a phase II study of the steroid sulfatase inhibitor Irosustat when added to an aromatase inhibitor in ER-positive breast cancer patients
Purpose: Irosustat is a first-generation, orally active, irreversible steroid sulfatase inhibitor. We performed a multicentre, open label phase II trial of the addition of Irosustat to a first-line aromatase inhibitor (AI) in patients with advanced BC to evaluate the safety of the combination and to test the hypothesis that the addition of Irosustat to AI may further suppress estradiol levels and result in clinical benefit. Experimental design: Postmenopausal women with ER-positive locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer who had derived clinical benefit from a first-line AI and who subsequently progressed were enrolled. The first-line AI was continued and Irosustat (40 mg orally daily) added. The primary endpoint was clinical benefit rate (CBR). Secondary endpoints included safety, tolerability, and pharmacodynamic end points. Results: Twenty-seven women were recruited, four discontinued treatment without response assessment. Based on local reporting, the CBR was 18.5% (95% CI 6.3–38.1%) on an intent to treat basis, increasing to 21.7% (95% CI 7.4–43.7%) by per-protocol analysis. In those patients that achieved clinical benefit (n = 5), the median (interquartile range) duration was 9.4 months (8.1–11.3) months. The median progression-free survival time was 2.7 months (95% CI 2.5–4.6) in both the ITT and per-protocol analyses. The most frequently reported grade 3/4 toxicities were dry skin (28%), nausea (13%), fatigue (13%), diarrhoea (8%), headache (7%), anorexia (7%) and lethargy (7%). Conclusions: The addition of Irosustat to aromatase inhibitor therapy resulted in clinical benefit with an acceptable safety profile. The study met its pre-defined success criterion by both local and central radiological assessments
