Orobanche cumana wallr. resistance of commercial sunflower cultivars grown in Argentina
La planta parásita Orobanche cumana Wallr. (jopo) es una de las mayores limitantes de la producción de girasol en los principales países productores del mundo. Sin embargo, está ausente en el centro de origen y en las áreas de cultivo de girasol en América. No ha quedado claro aún si la naturalización de O. cumana en los hábitats de girasol de Argentina está limitada por restricciones abióticas o por la resistencia de los cultivares comerciales. El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar la resistencia a O. cumana de los cultivares comerciales de girasol en Argentina. En general, más del 95% de los cultivares probados fue susceptible al ataque de jopo; solamente uno de ellos mostró completa resistencia a O. cumana. Esto descarta la posibilidad de considerar a la resistencia genética de los cultivares utilizados como la causa de la ausencia de jopo en Argentina. Por lo tanto, los estudios futuros deberían focalizarse en otros factores bióticos y abióticos que, por afectar el crecimiento y desarrollo del jopo, podrían ser responsables potenciales de la ausencia de este parásito en Argentina.The parasitic weed Orobanche cumana Wallr. (broomrape) is one of the major limiting factors in worldwide sunflower production. However, it is absent in the centre of origin and in the sunflower crop areas of América. It has not yet been elucidated if O. cumana naturalization in sunflower habitats in Argentina is restricted as a result of either abiotic constraints or resistance in grown commercial cultivars. The aim of the present study was to assess the degree of resistance of commercial sunflower cultivars grown in Argentina to O. cumana. More than 95% of the tested sunflower cultivars were, in general, susceptible to broomrape attack. Although three cultivars were found to evidence an acceptable response to broomrape attack, only one of them showed complete resistance to O. cumana. This disregards genetic resistance of grown cultivars as being the reason for the absence of broomrape in Argentina. In view of this, future studies should focus on other biotic and abiotic factors affecting broomrape growth and development which could be potentially responsible for the absence of O. cumana in Argentina.Fil: Miladinovic, D.. Adding abiraterone to androgen deprivation therapy in men with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
BACKGROUND: There is a need to synthesise the results of numerous randomised controlled trials evaluating the addition of therapies to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for men with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). This systematic review aims to assess the effects of adding abiraterone acetate plus prednisone/prednisolone (AAP) to ADT. METHODS: Using our framework for adaptive meta-analysis (FAME), we started the review process before trials had been reported and worked collaboratively with trial investigators to anticipate when eligible trial results would emerge. Thus, we could determine the earliest opportunity for reliable meta-analysis and take account of unavailable trials in interpreting results. We searched multiple sources for trials comparing AAP plus ADT versus ADT in men with mHSPC. We obtained results for the primary outcome of overall survival (OS), secondary outcomes of clinical/radiological progression-free survival (PFS) and grade III-IV and grade V toxicity direct from trial teams. Hazard ratios (HRs) for the effects of AAP plus ADT on OS and PFS, Peto Odds Ratios (Peto ORs) for the effects on acute toxicity and interaction HRs for the effects on OS by patient subgroups were combined across trials using fixed-effect meta-analysis. FINDINGS: We identified three eligible trials, one of which was still recruiting (PEACE-1 (NCT01957436)). Results from the two remaining trials (LATITUDE (NCT01715285) and STAMPEDE (NCT00268476)), representing 82% of all men randomised to AAP plus ADT versus ADT (without docetaxel in either arm), showed a highly significant 38% reduction in the risk of death with AAP plus ADT (HR = 0.62, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.53-0.71, p = 0.55 × 10(-10)), that translates into a 14% absolute improvement in 3-year OS. Despite differences in PFS definitions across trials, we also observed a consistent and highly significant 55% reduction in the risk of clinical/radiological PFS (HR = 0.45, 95% CI = 0.40-0.51, p = 0.66 × 10(-36)) with the addition of AAP, that translates to a 28% absolute improvement at 3 years. There was no evidence of a difference in the OS benefit by Gleason sum score, performance status or nodal status, but the size of the benefit may vary by age. There were more grade III-IV acute cardiac, vascular and hepatic toxicities with AAP plus ADT but no excess of other toxicities or death. INTERPRETATION: Adding AAP to ADT is a clinically effective treatment option for men with mHSPC, offering an alternative to docetaxel for men who are starting treatment for the first time. Influence of (0, 1)* Laguerre-Gaussian Field Distribution on Tunneling Ionization Rate
Abstract: In the frame of the ADK theory, the tunneling ionization of an argon atom exposed to the light from Ti:Sapphire laser is investigated. We assume that the laser field is the radially polarized beam with donut. (0, 1)* Laguerre-Gaussian field distribution. Considering that LG (0, 1)* modes can appear with random or uniform polarization (linear, circular or elliptical), we analyzed behavior of transition rate in all three types. We computed transition rate in basic case and in the case when the initial momentum of the ejected electron is included in the equation. Also, we analyzed influence of the modified initial ionization potential of ionized electron on transition rate. In the basic case, we got what we expected but with included effect we find appearance of two transition rate peaks at a certain point of the electron’s exit from the barrier
Search for Second-Generation Scalar Leptoquarks in Collisions at =1.96 TeV
Results on a search for pair production of second generation scalar
leptoquark in collisions at =1.96 TeV are reported. The
data analyzed were collected by the CDF detector during the 2002-2003 Tevatron
Run II and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 198 pb. Leptoquarks
(LQ) are sought through their decay into (charged) leptons and quarks, with
final state signatures represented by two muons and jets and one muon, large
transverse missing energy and jets. We observe no evidence for production
and derive 95% C.L. upper limits on the production cross sections as well
as lower limits on their mass as a function of , where is the

Measurement of the ttbar Production Cross Section in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
We present a measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in
ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using 318 pb^{-1} of data collected with
the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We select ttbar decays into the final states
e nu + jets and mu nu + jets, in which at least one b quark from the t-quark
decays is identified using a secondary vertex-finding algorithm. Assuming a top
quark mass of 178 GeV/c^2, we measure a cross section of 8.7 +-0.9 (stat)
+1.1-0.9 (syst) pb. We also report the first observation of ttbar with
significance greater than 5 sigma in the subsample in which both b quarks are
identified, corresponding to a cross section of 10.1 +1.6-1.4(stat)+2.0-1.3

Observation of the Baryonic Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Decay Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu-
We report the first observation of the baryonic flavor-changing neutral
current decay Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- with 24 signal events and a
statistical significance of 5.8 Gaussian standard deviations. This measurement
uses ppbar collisions data sample corresponding to 6.8fb-1 at sqrt{s}=1.96TeV
collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. The total and
differential branching ratios for Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- are measured. We
find B(Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu-) = [1.73+-0.42(stat)+-0.55(syst)] x 10^{-6}.
We also report the first measurement of the differential branching ratio of B_s
-> phi mu+ mu- using 49 signal events. In addition, we report branching ratios
for B+ -> K+ mu+ mu-, B0 -> K0 mu+ mu-, and B -> K*(892) mu+ mu- decays.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Improved treatment of the turning point in tunnel ionization of atoms in a low-frequency two color laser field
The tunneling photoionization rate for a two color (bichromatic) field consisting of coherent
superposition of the fundamental laser field frequency ω and its second harmonic with
frequency 2ω, was studied theoretically within the framework of the adiabatic Landau–Dykhne
approach. Analytical expressions were derived for the case of fixed specified values of relative

Instrumental variable meta-analysis of randomised trials of epidural analgesia in labour to adjust for non-compliance
Objective: Intention-to-treat analysis of randomised controlled trials may cause bias towards the null where non-compliance with the allocated intervention occurs. Instrumental variable analysis allows estimation of the causal effect adjusted for non-compliance. The aim of this study is to compare intention-to-treat and instrumental variable meta-analysis of the association between epidural analgesia in labour and caesarean section.
Study design and Setting: The study was restricted to 27 trials in a recent Cochrane Systematic Review. For trials with data on compliance, the association between epidural analgesia in labour and caesarean section was calculated using intention-to-treat analysis and instrumental variable analysis. Fixed-effects meta-analysis was used to calculate pooled risk ratios.
Results: In 18 trials with data on compliance, 23% of women allocated to epidural analgesia did not comply and 27% of women allocated to the control received epidural analgesia. Data on outcomes in non-compliant groups were available for 10 trials. The pooled risk ratio for caesarean section following epidural analgesia in labour was 1.37 (95% CI 1.00-1.89, p=0.049) using instrumental variable analysis compared to 1.19 (95% CI 0.93-1.51, p=0.16) using intention-to-treat analysis.
Conclusion: Intention-to-treat meta-analysis underestimates the effect of receiving epidural analgesia in labour on caesarean section compared to instrumental variable meta-analysis.NHMR
Measurement of the Dipion Mass Spectrum in X(3872) -> J/Psi Pi+ Pi- Decays
We measure the dipion mass spectrum in X(3872)--> J/Psi Pi+ Pi- decays using
360 pb-1 of pbar-p collisions at 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector.
The spectrum is fit with predictions for odd C-parity (3S1, 1P1, and 3DJ)
charmonia decaying to J/Psi Pi+ Pi-, as well as even C-parity states in which
the pions are from Rho0 decay. The latter case also encompasses exotic
interpretations, such as a D0-D*0Bar molecule. Only the 3S1 and J/Psi Rho
hypotheses are compatible with our data. Since 3S1 is untenable on other
grounds, decay via J/Psi Rho is favored, which implies C=+1 for the X(3872).
Models for different J/Psi-Rho angular momenta L are considered. Flexibility in
the models, especially the introduction of Rho-Omega interference, enable good

Search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying to a bb pair in events with one charged lepton and large missing transverse energy using the full CDF data set
We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in
association with a W boson in sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV p-pbar collision data
collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 9.45 fb-1. In events consistent with the decay of the
Higgs boson to a bottom-quark pair and the W boson to an electron or muon and a
neutrino, we set 95% credibility level upper limits on the WH production cross
section times the H->bb branching ratio as a function of Higgs boson mass. At a
Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV/c2 we observe (expect) a limit of 4.9 (2.8) times
