    Integrating vocational training in culinary arts and Islamic studies at juvenile rehabilitation centres: Malaysian experience

    The Juvenile Rehabilitation Centres (JRC) in Malaysia aims to provide shelter, counselling and skills training to juveniles specifically for those who wish to transform themselves from the regrettable misdeeds they have committed. At JRCs, an integrated Culinary Vocational Training and Islamic education forms part of their training curriculum. The skills acquired should enable trainees to secure jobs upon completion of training. However, there are some training institutions that lack systematic training structures resulting in trainees becoming less skilful in both vocational and Islamic education. The objective of this research is to identify the effectiveness of an integrated Culinary and Islamic Education curriculum implemented at JRCs in Malaysia. This is a descriptive survey and data was obtained using questionnaire and interview. Respondents comprised 92 trainees, four managers, four culinary trainers and four Islamic education teachers, all from four different JRCs. The findings show that the trainees are happy with their trainings that brought about positive effects for them. Some suggestions have been made to provide improvements in the implementation of the course among them the inclusion of prayers in the Islamic education syllabus

    Phase transitions in the Shastry-Sutherland lattice

    Two recently developed theoretical approaches are applied to the Shastry-Sutherland lattice, varying the ratio J/JJ'/J between the couplings on the square lattice and on the oblique bonds. A self-consistent perturbation, starting from either Ising or plaquette bond singlets, supports the existence of an intermediate phase between the dimer phase and the Ising phase. This existence is confirmed by the results of a renormalized excitonic method. This method, which satisfactorily reproduces the singlet triplet gap in the dimer phase, confirms the existence of a gapped phase in the interval 0.66<J/J<0.860.66<J'/J<0.86Comment: Submited for publication in Phys.     Stability assessment of tunnel face in a layered soil using upper bound theorem of limit analysis

Underground tunnelling is one of the sustainable construction methods which can facilitate the increasing passenger transportation in the urban areas and benefit the community in the long term. Tunnelling in various ground conditions requires careful consideration of the stability factor. This paper investigates three dimensional stability of a shallow circular tunnel in a layered soil. Upper bound theorem of limit analysis was utilised to solve the tunnel face stability problem. A three dimensional kinematic admissible failure mechanism was improved to model a layered soil and limiting assumptions of the previous studies were resolved. The study includes calculation of the minimum support pressure acting on the face of the excavation in closed-face excavations. The effects of the characteristics of the layers on the minimum support pressure were examined. It was found that the ratio of the thickness of cover layers particularly when a weak layer is overlying a stronger layer, has the most significant influence on the minimum tunnel support pressure. Comparisons have been made with the results of the numerical modelling using FLAC3D software. Results of the current study were in a remarkable agreement with those of numerical modelling

    Bioefficacy of controlled release formulations of diuron on Brassica rapa

    Controlled-release formulations (CRF) of diuron were prepared in laboratory using the concept of physical matrix utilizing sodium alginate and kaolin. The release rates of diuron from the formulations were determined by chemical assay its efficacy on plant was tested on Brassica rapa. In the chemical assay using high performance chromatography with UV detector, significant differences in the release rate between formulations were observed from 3 to 7 days after the granules had been placed in distilled water. The formulation having a 1:1 ratio of alginate to kaolin with 1mm granule size showed the fastest release of diuron, while release from the 2mm granules was slower. Increasing the proportion of kaolin to sodium alginate in the CRF reduced the release rate of active agent. The bioefficacy using Brassica rapa as a bioindicator showed that CRF released slower than the conventional formulation at the beginning of the treatments. In the 3rd week after the treatment (WAT), there was no significant difference in the mortality as compared to the conventional formulation at 16 WAT. The same results were also observed up to 24 WAT, the CRF caused between 40-70% mortality, while the conventional formulation treatment caused only 6% mortality. Among the CRF, the AK-2 with 1:1 ration of alginate:kaolin was found to have given the best result with the highest percentage mortality of the seedlings

    Salah satu isu utama dalam industri kesehatan adalah kurangnya manajemen yang tepat dalam aset informasi. Hilangnya aset informasi dapat diklasifikasikan sebagai bencana yang dapat mengakibatkan kerugian finansial. Seringkali, ini kerugian keuangan sulit untuk menghitung karena nilai ekonomi dari aset informasi tidak diukur. Penelitian ini akan membahas informasi manajemen aset di industri kesehatan menggunakan Steven Informatian Profil Aset (IAP), khususnya pada proses bisnis inti. Kuantifikasi nilai ekonomi aset informasi dilakukan melalui analisis risiko menggunakan diagram tulang ikan. Ini adalah hasil pemetaan risiko dalam kategori Ranti yang Generik / TI Nilai Bisnis, dikombinasikan dengan empat Su model dampak bisnis (keuangan, operasional, pelanggan, dan karyawan). Hal ini bertujuan untuk membantu menentukan metrik yang menunjukkan kuantifikasi kerugian finansial yang mungkin timbul dari kehilangan informasi aset. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa IAP dapat digunakan sebagai metode manajemen informasi aset, serta praktek terbaik dalam penerapan awal manajemen risiko. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa nilai aset informasi tidak selalu sesuai dengan nilai positif ekonominya karena tergantung pada tingkat pemulihan data di masing-masing aset. One primary issue in healthcare industry is the lack of proper management in its information asset. The loss of information asset can be classified as a disaster that might lead to financial loss. Often, this financial loss is hard to calculate since the economic value of the information asset is not quantified. This study will address information asset management in healthcare industry using Steven's Informatian Asset Profiling (IAP), specifically on its core business process. Quantification of the economic value of information asset is performed through risk analysis using fishbone diagram. It is the mapping result of risks categories in Ranti's Generic IS/IT Business Value, combined with Su's four models of business impact (financial, operational, customer, and employee). It aims to help determining quantification metrics which shows financial loss that might result from information asset loss. The result of this study shows that IAP can be used as a method of information asset management, as well as the best practice in the early application of risk management. The study also finds that information asset value does not always correspond positively with its economic value as it depends on the level of data recovery in each asset

    Effect of storage temperature and storage duration on biodiesel properties and characteristics

    Biodiesel based on vegetable oils offer the advantage being a sustainable and environmentally attractive alternative to conventional petroleum based fuel. Biodiesel is produced from any fat or oil such as soybean oil, through a refinery process called transesterification. The key issue in using vegetable oil-based fuels is oxidation stability, stoichiometric point, bio-fuel composition, antioxidants on the degradation and much oxygen with comparing to diesel gas oil. Biodiesel can be used as a pure fuel or blended with petroleum in any percentage but the standard storage and handling procedures used for biodiesel are the main issue due to the biodiesel fuel specifications. In the quest for fulfill the industry specifications standard; the fuel should be stored in a clean, dry and dark environment. In this research, three different storage temperature were study which are; low (0 – 5 °C), ambient, and high (40 – 50 °C). The key parameters that are required to store biodiesel are discussed, and the recent research advances are noted. Five types of biodiesel after storage all the samples for 2016 hours were tested plus with two product of combustion. Images analysis for combustion process was used to image appearances analysis. Under 2016 hours of storage duration, the effect of degradation was happen although the effect is not significance because the changes are still in acceptable ranges

    Rapid growth in poultry industry provides opportunities and threats for Medion. With multiple businesses to manage, Medion needs effective corporate strategy to maximize its value. What is the appropriate directional strategy for Medion? How Medion should manage its portfolio and how Medion should organize its poultry equipment businesses?. To understand the situation, external and internal analysis must be done using STEEP analysis and Porter's Five Forces. Corporate strategy formulation includes directional, portfolio, and parenting strategy. How Medion responds to this situation will be answered under directional strategy. Portfolio strategy will be done using BCG Matrix and GE Business Screen. Parenting framework is appropriate for Medion as parent company. Medion can put influence on each its business unit and assess whether it can create or destroy value. The framework assess critical success factors of each business, available parenting opportunities, and parenting characteristics, then assess the fit and misfit between these elements. Data is collected by secondary data, interview and survey to assess situation and formulate strategies. Quantitative survey on Medion's customers is done on questionnaire using judgmental sampling. The suitable directional for Medion is concentric growth because the company has strong competitiveness and the market is attractive. In portfolio strategy, Medion needs to develop star business because currently it lacks one. The ideal candidate is brooding business. Meditech business should be liquidated and the resource allocated on other businesses. As parent company, Medion has to develop parenting opportunity to improve brooding business from edge of heartland category into heartland and keep the whole ownership of feeder, drinker, and brooding business. Through these strategies, PT Medion should be able to respond correctly to the changing environment of poultry industry by investing, growing, maintaining, and even harvesting the right businesses. Finally, the company will achieve higher business growth and produce sustainability on long term basis

    Oral Apolipoprotein A-I Mimetic D-4F Lowers HDL-Inflammatory Index in High-Risk Patients: A First-in-Human Multiple-Dose, Randomized Controlled Trial.

    A single dose of the apolipoprotein (apo)A-I mimetic peptide D-4F rendered high-density lipoprotein (HDL) less inflammatory, motivating the first multiple-dose study. We aimed to assess safety/tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of daily, orally administered D-4F. High-risk coronary heart disease (CHD) subjects added double-blinded placebo or D-4F to statin for 13 days, randomly assigned 1:3 to ascending cohorts of 100, 300, then 500 mg (n = 62; 46 men/16 women). D-4F was safe and well-tolerated. Mean ± SD plasma D-4F area under the curve (AUC, 0-8h) was 6.9 ± 5.7 ng/mL*h (100 mg), 22.7 ± 19.6 ng/mL*h (300 mg), and 104.0 ± 60.9 ng/mL*h (500 mg) among men, higher among women. Whereas placebo dropped HDL inflammatory index (HII) 28% 8 h postdose (range, 1.25-0.86), 300-500 mg D-4F effectively halved HII: 1.35-0.57 and 1.22-0.63, respectively (P \u3c 0.03 vs. placebo). Oral D-4F peptide dose predicted HII suppression, whereas plasma D-4F exposure was dissociated, suggesting plasma penetration is unnecessary. In conclusion, oral D-4F dosing rendered HDL less inflammatory, affirming oral D-4F as a potential therapy to improve HDL function

Pengelolaan data yang lambat dan kurang akurat akan sangat mempengaruhi pelayanan rumah sakit terhadap pasien. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah membuat suatu sistem informasi manajemen rumah sakit berbasis web yang dapat mengelola data pasien untuk pelayanan rawat jalan, rawat inap, apotik dan kasir menggunakan metodologi waterfall. Tahapan pada metodologi waterfall antara lain communication, planning, modeling, construction dan deployment. Sistem Informasi Manajemen yang telah dihasilkan pada perancangan ini dapat mengelola data pasien rumah sakit untuk rawat jalan, rawat inap, pelayanan apotik dan pelayanan kasir.
