    vHOG, a multispecies vertebrate ontology of homologous organs groups

    Motivation: Most anatomical ontologies are species-specific, whereas a framework for comparative studies is needed. We describe the vertebrate Homologous Organs Groups ontology, vHOG, used to compare expression patterns between species. Results: vHOG is a multispecies anatomical ontology for the vertebrate lineage. It is based on the HOGs used in the Bgee database of gene expression evolution. vHOG version 1.4 includes 1184 terms, follows OBO principles and is based on the Common Anatomy Reference Ontology (CARO). vHOG only describes structures with historical homology relations between model vertebrate species. The mapping to species-specific anatomical ontologies is provided as a separate file, so that no homology hypothesis is stated within the ontology itself. Each mapping has been manually reviewed, and we provide support codes and references when available.     Constraints on the χ_(c1) versus χ_(c2) polarizations in proton-proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV

    The polarizations of promptly produced χ_(c1) and χ_(c2) mesons are studied using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, in proton-proton collisions at √s=8  TeV. The χ_c states are reconstructed via their radiative decays χ_c → J/ψγ, with the photons being measured through conversions to e⁺e⁻, which allows the two states to be well resolved. The polarizations are measured in the helicity frame, through the analysis of the χ_(c2) to χ_(c1) yield ratio as a function of the polar or azimuthal angle of the positive muon emitted in the J/ψ → μ⁺μ⁻ decay, in three bins of J/ψ transverse momentum. While no differences are seen between the two states in terms of azimuthal decay angle distributions, they are observed to have significantly different polar anisotropies. The measurement favors a scenario where at least one of the two states is strongly polarized along the helicity quantization axis, in agreement with nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics predictions. This is the first measurement of significantly polarized quarkonia produced at high transverse momentum

    The in vivo effect of Lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT) on the expression of type 2 immune response involved genes in the wound healing process

    Lacto-n-neotatraose (LNnT) oligosaccharide shows properties such as anti-inflammatory, type 2 immune response induction, induced angiogenesis, and anti-bacterial effects. Here, we hypothesized that the application of LnNT in the skin full-thickness wound can accelerate the healing process through its anti-inflammatory effect as well as induction of type 2 immune responses. In this study, we evaluated the cell viability of fibroblasts in the presence of LNnT. The full-thickness wound model was created by punch biopsy. The mice were treated intradermaly with LNnT at the concentrations of 100 and 200 µg or PBS as a control group. The wounds samples were compared based on the macroscopic and histological evaluations. The amount of collagen deposition and expression of genes involved in type 2 immunity were measured by the hydroxyproline assay and real time PCR method, respectively. Our results showed that LNnT had no negative effect on the cell viability of fibroblasts. LNnT increased the wound closure rate on day 7 post-wounding. H&E stain analysis revealed that mice treated with 200 µg LNnT exhibited better healing score, follicle formation, and lower epidermal thickness index. The mice treated with LNnT exhibited a lower collagen deposition on day 21 and higher collagen content on days 7 and 14 post-treatment. The LNnT groups also exhibited a lower number of neutrophils and a higher number of basal cells and fibroblasts. The expression rate of IL-10, IL-4, and IL-13 was higher in the LNnT groups. These results showed the high potential of LNnT for use in treatment of full-thickness wounds. © 2020, The Author(s)

    Diversity of geophilic dermatophytes species in the soils of iran; the significant preponderance of nannizzia fulva

    A molecular epidemiology study was conducted between 2016 and 2017 by a network of collaborators from 12 provinces in the Islamic Republic of Iran. A total of 1484 soil samples from different habitats were screened for the presence of dermatophytes by using the hair baiting technique. The primary identification of isolates was carried out by amplification and MvaI restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of the internal transcribed spacers regions of ribosomal DNA (ITS-rDNA). The identifications, especially in the cases of isolates with unknown RFLP patterns, were confirmed by sequencing of the ITS-rDNA region. As a result, 256 isolates were recovered. The isolation rate was higher in soils with pH range 7.1–8.0, collected from animal habitats (n = 78; 34%) and parks and gardens (n = 75; 32%), geographically from Mazandaran Province (n = 115; 49.5%) and seasonally in the spring (n = 129; 50.4%), all of which were statistically significant (p < 0.05). The dermatophytes comprising five species of the two genera, viz., Nannizzia fulva (n = 214), N. gypsea (n = 34), Arthroderma quadrifidum (n = 5), A. gertleri (n = 2) and A. tuberculatum (n = 1), were isolated. The geophilic dermatophytes occurred in various soils from different parts of Iran; however, surprisingly, N. fulva emerged as the dominant species, outnumbering the common geophilic species of N. gypsea. For the definitive identification of soil inhabitant dermatophytes, DNA-based identification is strongly recommended

    Measurement of the Bs0 = μ+μ- decay properties and search for the B0 → μ+μ- decay in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV

    Measurements are presented of the B0s & RARR; & mu;+& mu;- branching fraction and effective lifetime, as well as results of a search for the B0 & RARR; & mu;+& mu;- decay in proton-proton collisions at & RADIC;s =13 TeV at the LHC. The analysis is based on data collected with the CMS detector in 2016-2018 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb-1. The branching fraction of the B0s & RARR; & mu;+& mu;- decay and the effective B0s meson lifetime are the most precise single measurements to date. No evidence for the B0 & RARR; & mu;+& mu;- decay has been found. All results are found to be consistent with the standard model predictions and previous measurements. & COPY; 2023 The Author(s).     Search for low-mass dilepton resonances in Higgs boson decays to four-lepton final states in proton–proton collisions at √s=13TeV

    A search for low-mass dilepton resonances in Higgs boson decays is conducted in the four-lepton final state. The decay is assumed to proceed via a pair of beyond the standard model particles, or one such particle and a Z boson. The search uses proton–proton collision data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1, at a center-of-mass energy √s = 13 TeV. No significant deviation from the standard model expectation is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on model-independent Higgs boson decay branching fractions. Additionally, limits on dark photon and axion-like particle production, based on two specific models, are reported
