Constraints on the Neutrino Parameters from the `Rise-up' in the Boron Neutrino Spectrum at Low Energies
The rise-up in boron neutrino spectrum at low energies has been studied
within the framework of `pure LMA' scenario. Indirect bounds on the spectral
`upturn' have been obtained from the available solar neutrino data. These
bounds have been used to demonstrate the efficacy of the precision measurements
of the `upturn' for further constraining the neutrino parameter space allowed
by SNO salt phase data. The sterile neutrino flux has been constrained in the
light of the recent 766.3 Ty KamLAND spectral data.Comment: Latex 10pages including 3 postscript figure
The Many Electron Ground State of the Adiabatic Holstein Model in Two and Three Dimensions
We present the complete ground state phase diagram of the Holstein model in
two and three dimension considering the phonon variables to be classical. We
first establish the overall structure of the phase diagram by using exact
diagonalisation based Monte Carlo (ED-MC) on small lattices and then use a new
``travelling cluster'' approximation (TCA) for annealing the phonon degrees of
freedom on large lattices. The phases that emerge include a Fermi liquid (FL),
with no lattice distortions, an insulating polaron liquid (PL) at strong
coupling, and a charge ordered insulating (COI) phase around half- filling. The
COI phase is separated from the Fermi liquid by a regime of phase coexistence
whose width grows with increasing electron-phonon coupling. We provide results
on the electronic density of states, the COI order parameter, and the spatial
organisation of polaronic states, for arbitrary density and electron-phonon
coupling. The results highlight the crucial role of spatial correlations in
this strong coupling problem.Comment: Final versio
Anderson-Mott Transition Driven by Spin Disorder: Spin Glass Transition and Magnetotransport in Amorphous GdSi
A zero temperature Anderson-Mott transition driven by spin disorder can be
`tuned' by an applied magnetic field to achieve colossal magnetoconductance.
Usually this is not possible since spin disorder by itself cannot localise a
high density electron system. However, the presence of strong structural
disorder can realise this situation, self consistently generating a disordered
magnetic ground state. We explore such a model, constructed to understand
amorphous GdSi, and highlight the emergence of a spin glass phase,
Anderson-Mott signatures in transport and tunneling spectra, and unusual
magneto-optical conductivity. We solve a disordered strong coupling
fermion-spin-lattice problem essentially exactly on finite systems, and account
for all the qualitative features observed in magnetism, transport, and the
optical spectra in this system.Comment: Final version of cond-mat/0209579, to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Traditional practices of utilization and conservation of non-wood forest products by Adi tribes of Arunachal Pradesh
The survey was carried out during 2009-11 to collect the information of Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFPs) utilized by the Adi tribes of East Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh. It was observeds that Adi tribes used to collect different NWFPs such as wild fruits (Artocarpus heterophyllum Lam., Castanopsis indica (Roxb. ex Lindl.) A. DC., Canarium strictum Roxb. etc.), vegetables (Bauhinia variegata L., Clerodendrum colebrookianum Walp., Diplazium esculentum (Retz.) Sw., Moringa oleifera Lam. etc.), spices (Cinnamomum tamala Nees & Eber.,Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume. and Piper longum L.), fibres (Calamus flagellum Griff. ex Mart., Dendrocalamus hemiltonii Nees et Arn. ex Munro, Pandanus nepaulensis H. St. John and Sterculia villosa Roxb.), floss (Bombax ceiba L.,), broom grass (Thysanolaena maxima (Roxb.) Ktze.), thatching material (Livistona jenkinsiana Griff.), various bamboo and cane species, and other miscellaneous products from the forests and community lands. NWFPs played a significant role in supporting the livelihood of Adi tribes as it has been observed that 32.50 %, 56.67 % and 10.83 % people were earning < Rs. 3000, Rs. 3000 - 6000 and > Rs. 6000, respectively from the sale of different NWFPs. Majority of respondents (80.83 %) were having the opinion that the availability of different NWFPs has declined considerably and maximum (85 %) respondents advocated that the availability of these products would further decrease in future also. Further, Adi tribal community is playing an important role in conservation of different NWFPs yielding species by domesticating them in their home gardens
Electronic structure studies of Fe- ZnO nanorods by x-ray absorption fine structure
We report the electronic structure studies of well characterized
polycrystalline Zn_{1-x}Fe_xO (x = 0.0, 0.01, 0.03, and 0.05) nanorods
synthesized by a co-precipitation method through x-ray absorption fine
structure (XAFS). X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals that Fe doped ZnO
crystallizes in a single phase wurtzite structure without any secondary phase.
From the XRD pattern, it is observed that peak positions shift towards lower
2\theta value with Fe doping. The change in the peak positions with increase in
Fe contents clearly indicates that Fe ions are replacing Zn ions in the ZnO
matrix. Linear combination fittings (LCF) at Fe K-edge demonstrate that Fe is
in mixed valent state (Fe3+/Fe2+) with a ratio of ~ 7:3 (Fe3+:Fe2+). XAFS data
is successfully fitted to wurtzite structure using IFEFFIT and Artemis. The
results indicate that Fe substitutes Zn site in the ZnO matrix in tetrahedral
symmetry.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables, regular articl

Fasting-Mimicking Diet Promotes Ngn3-Driven β-Cell Regeneration to Reverse Diabetes
Stem-cell-based therapies can potentially reverse organ dysfunction and diseases, but the removal of impaired tissue and activation of a program leading to organ regeneration pose major challenges. In mice, a 4-day fasting mimicking diet (FMD) induces a stepwise expression of Sox17 and Pdx-1, followed by Ngn3-driven generation of insulin-producing β cells, resembling that observed during pancreatic development. FMD cycles restore insulin secretion and glucose homeostasis in both type 2 and type 1 diabetes mouse models. In human type 1 diabetes pancreatic islets, fasting conditions reduce PKA and mTOR activity and induce Sox2 and Ngn3 expression and insulin production. The effects of the FMD are reversed by IGF-1 treatment and recapitulated by PKA and mTOR inhibition. These results indicate that a FMD promotes the reprogramming of pancreatic cells to restore insulin generation in islets from T1D patients and reverse both T1D and T2D phenotypes in mouse models
Phase diagram and upper critical field of homogenously disordered epitaxial 3-dimensional NbN films
We report the evolution of superconducting properties with disorder, in
3-dimensional homogeneously disordered epitaxial NbN thin films. The effective
disorder in NbN is controlled from moderately clean limit down to Anderson
metal-insulator transition by changing the deposition conditions. We propose a
phase diagram for NbN in temperature-disorder plane. With increasing disorder
we observe that as kFl-->1 the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) and
minimum conductivity (sigma_0) go to zero. The phase diagram shows that in
homogeneously disordered 3-D NbN films, the metal-insulator transition and the
superconductor-insulator transition occur at a single quantum critical point at
kFl~1.Comment: To appear in Journal of Superconductivity and Novel Magnetism
