English Borrowings from the Economic Sphere in the Verbal Lexicon of Native Speakers of Russian in the Era of Globalization

The article looks into the issue of the integration of loanwords appertaining to the financial lexis of the Russian language. Due to an overwhelming number of borrowings in the professional vocabulary of bank workers, the prevalence of anglicisms over Russian words in their written and verbal speech cannot go unnoticed. However, given a generally low level of bank workers’ English language competence, this situation leads to peculiar, nonstandard adaptation of anglicisms at all language levels. Accordingly, the article presents the possible ways anglicisms integrate into the Russian language, and examines the native speakers’ attitude to borrowed words and their preferences in using anglicisms. Furthermore, the authors have identified the main reasons why the speakers frequently resort to anglicisms and the degree of semantic awareness behind their choice. The most commonly-used borrowed terms have also been singled out

Information and propaganda strategies in German non-state media discourse during the COVID-19 pandemic

    Get PDF
This study aims to analyse the strategies supporting the German Government’s biopolitical health and life protection practices and how they were promoted in the discourse of non-state media outlets during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is assumed that non-state media used various pandemic communication strategies to achieve common biopolitical goals, striking a balance between propaganda and outreach. A comparative analysis was conducted of German publications that focused on the pandemic and appeared during the four waves (January 2020 - March 2022). A total of 54,515 texts from the German media (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Die Zeit, Die Tageszeitung) were examined. Methodologically, the study draws on the Herman-Chomsky propaganda model and Jacques Ellul’s concept. The results show that non-state media employ different communication strategies in line with the filters of the Herman-Chomsky model. All the media outlets maintained a balance between propaganda and public outreach, supporting the Government's biopolitical programme whilst prioritising their own interests. It can be concluded that the strategies chosen by the non-state media outlets instilled a sense of confidence, prompting the public to comply with the restrictions and measures consistent with the biopolitical agenda of the state

COVID-19 pandemic in Germany: information campaign, media, society

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a serious challenge to the entire global community. Globally, countries were forced to introduce restrictive measures to contain the infection, inevitably causing popular discontent. Germany introduced some of the most painful restrictions. In times of crisis, timely and reliable information is a prerequisite for public motivation to comply with restrictive measures. Thus, it seems essential to retrace how the German leadership tried to contain citizens' dissatisfaction with the restrictions, using information campaigns and strategies. This theoretical work aims to systematise available data on how Covid-awareness was raised in Germany, compare them with data from the Russian Federation, and identify the most successful communication strategies and weaknesses. It is clear from the findings that the channels of communication between the government and society should be diversified using all available means, and experts and opinion leaders, who are more trusted than politicians, should be recruited. In addition, there is a need to combat misinformation and dispel unproven facts. The data obtained can be of value in conducting information campaigns during future global crises

Mechano-Electric Feedbacks in a New Model of the Excitation-Contraction Coupling in Human Cardiomyocytes

The study is aimed to develop a new human cardiomyocyte model, which describes electromechanical coupling and mechano-electric feedbacks. The combined electromechanical model (TP+M) links the TP06 electrophysiological model of the human cardiomyocyte with our earlier developed model of the myocardium mechanical activity and its calcium regulation. In the TP+M model, we tried to maintain principal features of calcium transients and action potentials during the twitches typical for the human cardiomyocytes. The developed TP+M model allows simulating several basic classic phenomena such as load-dependent relaxation and length-dependence of isometric twitches and respective changes in action potential duration. We have also simulated some age-dependent changes in the electrical and mechanical activity in the human cardiomyocytes. © 2018 Creative Commons Attribution. The work was carried out within the framework of the IIP UrB RAS themes (Nos. The study presents the results of work with appeals of citizens in the Territorial body of the Federal service on surveillance in healthcare and social development of the Saratov region on 2012, 2013, 2014 and the first half of 2015. We used the analytical method to make the research. Results. The study presents the percentage balance of founded and unfounded complaints, structure of the appeals of citizens. Conclusion. The study shows the high performance of the work of the Territorial body of the Federal service on surveillance in healthcare and social development of the Saratov region with the appeals of citizens and control actions of medical organizations, based on these appeals

Clusters as a new management system of the Skadar Lake in Montenegro

    Get PDF
Skadar Lake, located in Montenegro, is a valuable natural resource that combines a favorable climate, unique flora and fauna, as well as numerous cultural and historical monuments. For the sustainable development of the Skadar Lake, a new system of natural and human resources management is needed that corresponds to the cluster approach. An analysis determined the main components of tourist and recreational clusters necessary for the transition from the development of single territories with a tourist potential to the sustainable development of the whole territory of the Skadar Lake, creating a synergistic effect. The possibility of creating tourist and recreational clusters on the territory of the Skadar Lake in Montenegro, is considered as a system integrated into the national and local framework of strategic planning, increasing the viability of tourism and having a multiplier effect on it as well as related services. The analysis confirmed the need for a strategic and systematic approach in the sustainable development of Skadar Lake, and also emphasized the relevance of the cluster approach in the tourism development. Skadar Lake should be considered as a whole region and unique system of tourist and recreational cluster in order to create an efficient and flexible structure, which, within the framework of ecotourism and in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, will benefit both nature and visitors
