Noncommutativity, generalized uncertainty principle and FRW cosmology
We consider the effects of noncommutativity and the generalized uncertainty
principle on the FRW cosmology with a scalar field. We show that, the
cosmological constant problem and removability of initial curvature singularity
find natural solutions in this scenarios.Comment: 8 pages, to appear in IJT
Which mechanism underlies the water-like anomalies in core-softened potentials?
Using molecular dynamics simulations we investigate the thermodynamic of
particles interacting with a continuous and a discrete versions of a
core-softened (CS) intermolecular potential composed by a repulsive shoulder.
Dynamic and structural properties are also analyzed by the simulations. We show
that in the continuous version of the CS potential the density at constant
pressure has a maximum for a certain temperature. Similarly the diffusion
constant, , at a constant temperature has a maximum at a density
and a minimum at a density
, and structural properties are also
anomalous. For the discrete CS potential none of these anomalies are observed.
The absence of anomalies in the discrete case and its presence in the
continuous CS potential are discussed in the framework of the excess entropy.Comment: 8 page
Noncommutative quantum mechanics and Bohm's ontological interpretation
We carry out an investigation into the possibility of developing a Bohmian
interpretation based on the continuous motion of point particles for
noncommutative quantum mechanics. The conditions for such an interpretation to
be consistent are determined, and the implications of its adoption for
noncommutativity are discussed. A Bohmian analysis of the noncommutative
harmonic oscillator is carried out in detail. By studying the particle motion
in the oscillator orbits, we show that small-scale physics can have influence
at large scales, something similar to the IR-UV mixing
Braneworld models with a non-minimally coupled phantom bulk field: a simple way to obtain the -1-crossing at late times
We investigate general braneworld models, with a non-minimally coupled
phantom bulk field and arbitrary brane and bulk matter contents. We show that
the effective dark energy of the brane-universe acquires a dynamical nature, as
a result of the non-minimal coupling which provides a mechanism for an indirect
"bulk-brane interaction" through gravity. For late-time cosmological evolution
and without resorting to special ansatzes or to specific areas of the parameter
space, we show that the -1-crossing of its equation-of-state parameter is
general and can be easily achieved. As an example we provide a simple, but
sufficiently general, approximate analytical solution, that presents the
crossing behavior.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figure
Thick brane in 7D and 8D spacetimes
We consider a thick brane model supported by two interacting scalar fields in
7D and 8D general relativity. Using the special type of a potential energy, we
obtain numerically the regular asymptotically flat vacuum solutions. A
possibility of obtaining the similar solutions for an arbitrary number of the
extra spatial dimensions is estimated.Comment: 3 Ref's are adde
On the Meaning of the String-Inspired Noncommutativity and its Implications
We propose an alternative interpretation for the meaning of noncommutativity
of the string-inspired field theories and quantum mechanics. Arguments are
presented to show that the noncommutativity generated in the stringy context
should be assumed to be only between the particle coordinate observables, and
not of the spacetime coordinates. Some implications of this fact for
noncomutative field theories and quantum mechanics are discussed. In
particular, a consistent interpretation is given for the wavefunction in
quantum mechanics. An analysis of the noncommutative theories in the
Schr\"odinger formulation is performed employing a generalized quantum
Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. A formal structure for noncommutative quantum
mechanics, richer than the one of noncommutative quantum field theory, comes
out. Conditions for the classical and commutative limits of these theories have
also been determined and applied in some examples.Comment: References, comments, and footnotes are included; some changes in

An electrochemical study of the corrosion processes of Ni-based glassy metals in aqueous solutions
The electrochemical behavior of amorphous Ni-Co alloys in carbonate/bicarbonate solutions was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy combined with voltammetry and stationary polarization techniques. The results indicate that the kinetics of the dissolution processes are dependent on the pH and ionic strength of the electrolyte. The composition of the glassy metal is an important factor in determining the kinetic parameters involved in the complex electrochemical behavior of these materials
Selectivity of metribuzin in postemergence of culture of carrot
A citação dos autores está incorreto. The initial slow growth and short stature of carrot can allow that weeds settle in crop areas, requiring the management of these plants for productivity not to decrease. Nevertheless, weeds control has been difficult because there are few herbicides available for weeds control in postemergence of carrots. Two experiments in the field were carried out to evaluate selectivity of metribuzin applied in postemergence of carrots. A experimental randomized block design was utilized with four repetitions. Treatments consisted of metribuzin doses (0, 144, 288, 432, 576, 720, 960 and 1,200 g ha-1), applied in postemergence of carrots of the Nantes variety. Roots productivity was evaluated and percentage of commercial roots and no-commercial roots was calculated. Metribuzin has not caused visual symptoms of intoxication in carrots. Doses lower than 432 g ha-1 of metribuzin do not reduce the total productivity of roots, independent of the application period. Any doses of metribuzin changed the percentage of commercial and noncommercial roots. It is concluded that metribuzin is selective for carrots of the Nantes variety in postemergence applications at doses of 432 g ha-1.O lento crescimento inicial da cenoura favorece o estabelecimento de plantas daninhas nas áreas de cultivo, sendo necessário o manejo dessas plantas para que não ocorra redução da produtividade.
Search for First Harmonic Modulation in the Right Ascension Distribution of Cosmic Rays Detected at the Pierre Auger Observatory
We present the results of searches for dipolar-type anisotropies in different
energy ranges above eV with the surface detector array of
the Pierre Auger Observatory, reporting on both the phase and the amplitude
measurements of the first harmonic modulation in the right-ascension
distribution. Upper limits on the amplitudes are obtained, which provide the
most stringent bounds at present, being below 2% at 99% for EeV
energies. We also compare our results to those of previous experiments as well
as with some theoretical expectations.Comment: 28 pages, 11 figure
