Comparative evaluation of phytochemical profiles and identification of flavonoids in cereal grains
The phytochemicals including flavonoids and phenolic acids mainly contained in the outer layer of the kernels are key factors responsible for the biofunctionality of whole grains. The phytochemical profiles of twelve grain samples comprising 6 wheats, 3 barleys and 3 oats were studied for comparative evaluation of their antioxidant properties. Total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activities (DPPH and ORAC) of the grain extracts were measured. The bound phenolic acids were identified and quantified using HPLC and mass spectrometry. The flavonoids in different grain were analyzed using HPLC and tandem mass spectrometric techniques. TPC in acidified methanol extracts ranged from 164 to 226, 264-391, and 308-331 mg/100 g for wheat, oats and barley, respectively. Similarly TPC in acetone extracts were 78 to 118, 223 to 351 and 367 to 433 mg/100 g. Acetone extracts had significantly (p < 0.05) higher TPC than acidified methanol extracts for barley samples. On the contrary, acidified methanol extracts from wheat and oats had higher TPC than their acetone extracts. The results showed that for both acetone and acidified methanol extracts, barley samples had significantly higher antioxidant activity than oats and wheat samples although even some of the oats had similar or even higher TPC compared to barley samples. Wheat extracts had low antioxidant activity assayed using both DPPH and ORAC assays. Oats had the highest levels of bound phenolic acids (431 to 656 mg/100 g) followed by wheat samples (91 to 153 mg/100 g). The bound phenolic acid contents of barley samples ranged from 81–105 mg/100 g. The major flavonoids in barley samples are dimers and trimers of proanthocyanidins, while flavone glucosides are the major flavonoids for wheat. The phytochemical including flavonoid profile may explain the antioxidant activity for different cereal grain rather than TPC
MODEL DISTRIBUSI DIAMETER LIMA JENIS POHON PADA HUTAN TROPIKA BASAH DI KABUPATEN MAMUJU, SULAWESI BARAT
URL http://journal.unhas.ac.id/index.php/perennial/article/view/73The objective of this research is to establish the most suitable tree diameter distribution model for five tree species on tropical rain forest in Mamuju District. This research was conducted on two locations. The 50 square plots were sampled systematically for seedling, sapling, pole and tree measurements of bintangur, jambu-jambu, lada-lada, matoa and nyatoh species. The distance among plots was 50 m. Variables to be measured were stem number of seedlings to trees and tree diameter at breast height (1,3 m) of saplings to trees. About 70% of the data were used to establish the best model, the rest of 30% were used to validate the model. Models to be analyzed were fourth-order semi-logarithmic transformed polynomial function, Weibull density function and monotonic decreasing Weibull function. The results show that the five tree species have a similar diameter distribution pattern. The shape of this distribution is the typical of uneven-aged stand distribution on natural forest, namely reversed J shape. The most suitable model for five species is second-order semi-logarithmic transformed polynomial function
Self-Organizing Innovation Networks: When do Small Worlds Emerge?
In this paper, we present a model of 'collective innovation' built upon the network formation formalism. In our model, agents localized on a circle benefit from knowledge flows from other agents with whom they are directly or indirectly connected. They support costs for direct connections which are linearly increasing with geographic distance. The dynamic process of network formation exhibits prefeRential meeting for close agents (in the relational network and in the geographic metrics). We show how the set of stochastically stable networks selected in the long run is affected by the degree of knowledge transferability. We find critical values of this parameter for which stable \"small world\" networks are dynamically selected.Network Formation, Stochastic Stability, Preferential Meeting, Self-Organization,
The Gamow Functional
We present a formalism that represents pure states, mixtures and generalized
states as functionals on an algebra containing the observables of the system.
Along these states, there are other functionals that decay exponentially at all
times and therefore can be used to describe resonance phenomena.Comment: 10 page
Sistem Persamaan Linear Fuzzy
Let AU = V be fuzzy system of linear equations. The fuzzy system of linear equations consist of n variables and n equations. We rearrange the fuzzy system of linear equations became 2n variables and 2n equations. The new system was devoted by BX* = V*. In this paper, we show that solution of BX* = V* can be used to find AU = V fuzzy system of linear equations, whenever B-1 is non-negative
Americanization of Non-American Storiesin Disney Films
The study is intended to know the Disney's animation films characteristics which are adapted from non American stories that contain Americanization in order to be American popular culture products. This qualitative and library research is carried out within the field of American Studies. Disney's animated films which are regarded as artifacts in order to identify American society and culture is used as her primary data. She then compares those Disney films with the original stories to discover the changes in making those stories become American popular products. She furthermore uses the sources such as books, magazines, journals, articles, and also internet data for her secondary data. The result of this study shows that most of folk narratives which were used in Disney films were adapted from other countries' stories. However, Disney intentionally adapts foreign countries' stories in its animated films by using Disney formula to blow up the sale of its products. Since Disney is one of the most powerful media conglomerates in the world, it works endlessly to set out world entertainment. Disney formula in its animated films which has dominated those adapted films are only intended to obtain as much profit as possible without paying attention to the values in children entertainment
