Fil: Bamonte, Florencia Paula. Finite Approximations to Quantum Physics: Quantum Points and their Bundles

There exists a physically well motivated method for approximating manifolds by certain topological spaces with a finite or a countable set of points. These spaces, which are partially ordered sets (posets) have the power to effectively reproduce important topological features of continuum physics like winding numbers and fractional statistics, and that too often with just a few points. In this work, we develop the essential tools for doing quantum physics on posets. The poset approach to covering space quantization, soliton physics, gauge theories and the Dirac equation are discussed with emphasis on physically important topological aspects. These ideas are illustrated by simple examples like the covering space quantization of a particle on a circle, and the sine-Gordon solitons.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figures on a uuencoded postscript file, DSF-T-29/93, INFN-NA-IV-29/93 and SU-4240-55

Development of a Novel Fe Based Heterogeneous Catalyst for CO2 Conversion

    Get PDF
Greenhouse gas emission has been a growing problem on the earth because of global warming and pollution of our air. The primary objective of this project is to develop a novel Fe based heterogeneous catalyst to enhance the catalytic conversion of CO2 by H2 for the synthesis of value added chemicals such as CO, methanol and fuels. We are focusing on iron for this catalyst because iron is one of the most abundant elements in the world and is very cheap making it optimal for catalyst use. The Fe-based solution we developed can be tuned to be either acidic or basic to adapt to different catalyst support. The solution was characterized by Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and the Fe adsorption at determined at ~200 nm. The heterogeneous catalyst was synthesized on alumina support (acidic) and active carbon support (basic) via Wet Incipient Impregnation method. The synthesized catalyst is to be tested for CO2 hydrogenation at Brookhaven National Lab (BNL). Catalyst characterization such as Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area, pore size and volume, Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), etc. will be carried out at BNL and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP, a top institute in Catalysis in China) with an aim to establish relationship between activity and properties. This fundamental study will serve as a guidance to help us understand the reaction pathway of CO2 hydrogenation

LA VERGINE MARIA E IL DIAVOLO NEGLI ESORCISMI

Virgin Mary and the devil in exorcisms. In the first part of the paper, I have presented the Associazione Internazionale Esorcisti, founded in Rome on June 30th, 1994, by Father Gabriele Amorth and Father René Chenessau, and how after twenty years, the Association reached such a development that we felt the need to establish a Statute. On June 13th, 2014, with a decree of the Congregation for the Clergy, the Statute received approval from the Holy See. I have also presented the objectives and training tools that the Associazione Internazionale Esorcisti offers to the priests who receive the call for this delicate Ministry. Afterwards I describe my experience as exorcist Priest, in relation to my particular marian spirituality, and I testify how the presence and the intercession of the Virgin Mary is alive in my ministry of exorcism, a fact that the demons themselves - with great disappointment and anger - frequently report while they are exorcised.

Co2 Conversion over Supported CoNi Bimetallic and CoNiPd Trimetallic Catalyst via Dry Reforming with Methane

    Get PDF
Greenhouse gas emission is a problem for the earth, and is causing warming of the climate, and acidification of the oceans. The primary objective of this project is to develop novel cobalt based catalysts, to enhance catalytic conversion of CO2 by methane into, value added chemicals and fuels. The heterogeneous Co-based bimetallic and tri metallic catalysts were synthesized via a wet incipient impregnation method to uniformly coat the metal salts to the pre-treated support (TiO2, SiO2, and La-ZrO2). The catalyst was dried in the oven at 80∞ C for two hours before subjected to the furnace to calcine at 450 degrees C for five hours. The synthesized catalysts are to be tested for CO2 dry reforming with methane through a flow bed reactor with controlled CO2 and CH4 flow rate and on-line GC to determine selectivity, conversion and stability of the catalysts. Catalyst characterization such as Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) surface area, pore size and volume, Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and CO Chemisorption and Temperature Programed Reaction (TPR) will be carried out at Brookhaven National Laboratory with an aim to establish relationships between activity and properties. The fundamental study will serve as great guidance for us to understand the reaction pathway of dry reforming of CO2 with CH4

The Dynamics of State Protectionism: A Short Critique of the CTS Decision

This Article argues that while political forces make protectionist anti-takeover legislation inevitable, the judiciary, prior to the CTS decision, had used the Commerce Clause and other theories to correct any imbalances by upholding the overriding national interest in the preservation of open national markets. The Article concludes that Congress should take affirmative steps to preempt protectionist state legislation, and in the interim, the CTS decision should be read narrowly
