Finite nuclear size correction to the bound-electron g factor in a hydrogenlike atom
The finite nuclear size correction to the bound-electron g factor in
hydrogenlike atoms is investigated in the range Z=1-20. An analytical formula
for this correction which includes the non-relativistic and dominant
relativistic contributions is derived. In the case of the 1s state, the results
obtained by this formula are compared with previous non-relativistic analytical
and relativistic numerical calculations.Comment: 5 page

On the descriptional complexity of operations on semilinear sets
We investigate the descriptional complexity of operations on semilinear sets. Roughly speaking, a semilinear set is the finite union of linear sets, which are built by con- stant and period vectors. The interesting parameters of a semilinear set are: (i) the maximal value that appears in the vectors of periods and constants and (ii) the number of such sets of periods and constants necessary to describe the semilinear set under consideration. More precisely, we prove upper bounds on the union, intersection, complementation, and inverse homomorphism. In particular, our result on the complementation upper bound answers an open problem from [G. J. Lavado, G. Pighizzini, S. Seki: Operational State Complexity of Parikh Equivalence, 2014]
Mass Measurements and the Bound--Electron g Factor
The accurate determination of atomic masses and the high-precision
measurement of the bound-electron g factor are prerequisites for the
determination of the electron mass, which is one of the fundamental constants
of nature. In the 2002 CODATA adjustment [P. J. Mohr and B. N. Taylor, Rev.
Mod. Phys. 77, 1 (2005)], the values of the electron mass and the
electron-proton mass ratio are mainly based on g factor measurements in
combination with atomic mass measurements. In this paper, we briefly discuss
the prospects for obtaining other fundamental information from bound-electron g
factor measurements, we present some details of a recent investigation of
two-loop binding corrections to the g factor, and we also investigate the
radiative corrections in the limit of highly excited Rydberg S states with a
long lifetime, where the g factor might be explored using a double resonance
experiment.Comment: 13 pages, LaTeX; dedicated to Prof. H.-J. Kluge on the occasion of

Effects of a synthetic bioactive peptide on neurite growth and nerve growth factor release in chondroitin sulfate hydrogels.
Previous work has revealed robust dorsal root ganglia neurite growth in hydrogels of chondroitin sulfate. In the current work, it was determined whether addition of a synthetic bioactive peptide could augment neurite growth in these matrices via enhanced binding and sequestering of growth factors. Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching studies revealed that addition of peptide slowed nerve growth factor diffusivity in chondroitin sulfate gels, but not in control gels of hyaluronic acid. Furthermore, cultures of chick dorsal root ganglia in gels of hyaluronic acid or chondroitin sulfate revealed enhanced growth in chondroitin sulfate gels only upon addition of peptide. Taken together, these results suggest a synergistic nerve growth factor-binding activity between this peptide and chondroitin sulfate
