ParkMe: A Parking Request App in Swift

    Get PDF
Over the past few years, there have been a proliferation of service technologies that leverage the principle of shared economy, which allows for the ability to buy, sell or rent goods and services from one person to another. Given the difficulty of obtaining parking at CSUN, other universities, as well as many parts of the world, the proposed project idea is a parking application that will serve as a marketplace exchange of parking spots. While there are applications that allow people to obtain parking spots via available parking spots from businesses, such as parking garages or other managed parking areas, this app will demonstrate how the shared economy business model can be applied to an application for finding parking spots. In addition, this thesis will detail specific use cases, such as the use in universities, where this app would provide benefit over the existing parking application model. This app will allow people to interact with other people, where one person may exchange their parking spot for a price that is set by the other person. The application will feature registration and login systems, as well as the ability to purchase or sell specific parking spots, and to see those spots on a real-time map. The available parking spots and price will be shown, sorted by the nearest to the buyer. In addition, the application will be backed by a cloud server, capable of providing real-time database services for storing user data, transaction data and other important information.California State University, Northridge.

The neuropeptide NMU amplifies ILC2-driven allergic lung inflammation

Type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) both contribute to mucosal homeostasis and initiate pathologic inflammation in allergic asthma. However, the signals that direct ILC2s to promote homeostasis versus inflammation are unclear. To identify such molecular cues, we profiled mouse lung-resident ILCs using single-cell RNA sequencing at steady state and after in vivo stimulation with the alarmin cytokines IL-25 and IL-33. ILC2s were transcriptionally heterogeneous after activation, with subpopulations distinguished by expression of proliferative, homeostatic and effector genes. The neuropeptide receptor Nmur1 was preferentially expressed by ILC2s at steady state and after IL-25 stimulation. Neuromedin U (NMU), the ligand of NMUR1, activated ILC2s in vitro, and in vivo co-administration of NMU with IL-25 strongly amplified allergic inflammation. Loss of NMU-NMUR1 signalling reduced ILC2 frequency and effector function, and altered transcriptional programs following allergen challenge in vivo. Thus, NMUR1 signalling promotes inflammatory ILC2 responses, highlighting the importance of neuro-immune crosstalk in allergic inflammation at mucosal surfaces

Individual Conditions for Co-production of a Social Innovation in a Living Lab: Case Sunshine PopUp Park

Participative processes and the empowerment of citizens are seen as central aspects of social innovation, which involves collaborative activities between the private, public and third sectors. It is important to identify the factors influencing citizen involvement, and we therefore investigate how people can be encouraged to contribute to improving societal well-being and to enhance partnerships between citizens, regions and, also, the profit and non-profit sectors. In particular, we investigate the motivation of citizens involved in the co-production of social innovation. We also provide descriptions of specific citizen- and public authority-related outcomes of the co-production process, which are missing from most previous studies (Voorberg et al., Public Management Review, 17(9), 1333–1357, 2015). We also identify actions that might facilitate the co-production of social innovation. In this study, we report a successful case of co-produced social innovation and derive findings from it.Post-print / Final draf

Teaching Ethics in Religious or Cultural Conflict Situations: a Personal Perspective

This article portrays the unique aspects of ethics education in a multicultural, multireligious and conflict-based atmosphere among Jewish and Arab nursing students in Jerusalem, Israel. It discusses the principles and the methods used for rising above this tension and dealing with this complicated situation, based on Yoder's `bridging' method. An example is used of Jewish and Arab students together implementing two projects in 2008, when the faculty decided to co-operate with communities in East Jerusalem, the Arab side of the city. The students took it upon themselves to chaperon the teachers who came to watch them at work, translate, and facilitate interaction with a guarded and suspicious community. This approach could also be relevant to less extreme conditions in any inter-religious environment when trying to produce graduates with a strong ethical awareness. </jats:p

Help progress science and biomedical research discoveries along the development pathway to patient benefit. Offer academics assistance with: defining development and regulatory strategy; building and managing links to available resources; funder liaising and reporting requirements; managing risks and issues, follow-on funding and on-going project management and support. Bridge the gap between academia and the commercial healthcare sector by de-risking UCL's novel science a team of 24 highly experienced industrial translational scientists tasked with establishing the organisational culture, capability and processes necessary to deliver the UCL and BRC's mission of "Accelerating translation for health and wealth". The TRO supports the development of early stage research from across UCL and its partner hospitals, into projects attractive for translational funding or further development with partners and nurture access to complementary capacity, expertise and skills in translational science. The TRO achieves this through the integrated activities of three specialist groups a Drug Discovery Group (DDG) provides expert advice and practical support for small molecule drug discovery projects across UCL; a Translational Research Group who provide experienced project leaders to guide projects (gene, cell and regenerative medicine therapies, devices, diagnostics, small molecules) through their development; and an Industrial Partnerships Group who initiate and manage relationships with industry. The team have a proven track record of therapeutic delivery and work in partnership with academics and industry partners, enhancing projects to optimise the chances of long-term success and benefit to patients.</jats:p
