Nowadays, students have access to an unprecedented variety of digital resources and tools, allowing for constant contact with foreign languages through multilingual social networks, subtitles and language options on Netflix and YouTube, language learning applications, etc. Still, French grammar classes at a university rely heavily on traditional printed sources, especially at advanced levels. This paper presents and evaluates a video-based inverted class on French grammar designed as an attempt to help students assimilate the complex mechanisms of French grammar more efficiently and to include their daily digital experiences in the learning process.
This article is aimed at sharing my progress and concerns onthe scope and limitations of the “travel accounts” category in the sixteenthcentury. This journey conceives of “the travel account” in the New Worldas a genre for the making of which various criteria converge, building upits heterogeneity. The corpus –which has been put together under the nameof “Imperial writings of the confines”– is made up of a set of texts relatedto the journeys of exploration, discovery and conquest of two dissimilarand untamed geographies: the Strait of Magellan and the Amazon River.Fil: Benites, María Jesús. Franz Kafka e o medium Kaiserpanorama
The reception of Franz Kafka’s work is normally seen from the perspective of human condition, the labyrinth, the bureaucracy that imposes itself over the individual and so on. There is no doubt about the importance of this perspective for the study of Kafka’s work. Nevertheless, the objective of the present paper is to point out another aspect in Kafka’s work, which is the relation to the visual medium Kaiserpanorama in his fictional writings. The starting points of this discussion are the books “Kafka goes to the movies” by Hanns Zischler published in 1996 and “Kafka und der Film: über kinematographisches Erzählen” by Peter-André Alt published in 2009. Thus, based on these publications this study intends to analyse the importance, that this optical medium may have had over Franz Kafka and in which ways it is possible to identify this new perception in his literary work, specially in the tale “An imperial message”. The main topic is constructed around the profundity of the 3D-image as seen through a Kaiserpanorama, and its statical plasticity
TwistBytes : hierarchical classification at GermEval 2019 : walking the fine line (of recall and precision)
We present here our approach to the GermEval 2019 Task 1 - Shared Task on hierarchical classification of German blurbs. We achieved the first place in the hierarchical subtask B and second place on the root node, flat classification subtask A. In subtask A, we applied a simple multi-feature TF-IDF extraction method using different n-gram range and stopword removal, on each feature extraction module. The classifier on top was a standard linear SVM. For the hierarchical classification, we used a local approach, which was more lightweighted but was similar to the one used in subtask A. The key point of our approach was the application of a post-processing to cope with the multi-label aspect of the task, increasing the recall but not surpassing the precision measure score
