A comparison of adaptive radiation in Conidae and Conilithidae (Gastropoda: Conoidea) in the Eastern and Western Atlantic, together with an iconography of the conilithid genus Jaspidiconus

    No full text
Comparison is made between two diverse faunas of conoidean gastropods in the tropical western Atlantic and eastern Atlantic, which have undergone dramatic adaptive radiation in a relatively short geological period. Hypothetical speciation processes of these groups are discussed, compared and contrasted. A complete iconography of the living species of Jaspidiconus together with a discussion of biogeopraphic regions is made to place these species hypotheses in their environmental and ecological context, together with a discussion of the requirement of total evidence and suggestions for further studies.</jats:p

“A three hour tour” - Reflections on Shelling Sint Maarten as a Port During a Cruise

The island of Saint Martin in the Leeward Island chain of the Lesser Antilles has not been thoroughly explored by malacologists. The author had a brief opportunity to visit the island and conduct a cursory survey of the marine molluscan fauna. This paper details that experience and provides an accounting of 91 taxa of marine mollusks found on shore among the floatsam and jetsum of Great Bay, Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten, as well as some intriguing specific findings.</jats:p

The proper name for the Florida Horse Conch is shown to be Triplofusus papillosa (Sowerby, 1825) as it has priority over Triplofusus gigantea (Kiener, 1840) under International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, Article 23.1 and has been repeatedly used in publications to identify the species since 1899.</jats:p

Untersuchungen ueber ernaehrungsphysiologische Wirkungen von Futterfetten in Rationen fuer wachsende Schweine

    No full text
