The older population in the 21th century usually live a longer and healthier life. This pinpoint the necessary and sufficient factors for their empowerment and sustainability. Therefore, this study aims at investigating possible antecedents of social support giving behavior of elderly and its relation to Buddhist type of happiness. A group of 395 older adults with ages range from 59 to 90 years old responded to a set of questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis reveals that having role models, Buddhist belief and practice, elderly school attendance, and generativity trait were the important predictors of social support giving behavior. Predictive power in the total sample was 39.74%, and between 33.66% to 53.82% in subgroups. In addition, social support giving behavior is related to greater Buddhist happiness, and higher core self-evaluation. Suggestions for enhancing empowerment and sustainability living of the older rural population are offered

This correlational study aims at investigating important predictors and predictive percentage of psychological and situational factors on attitude towards preparation for quality aging. Samples were 489 undergraduate students. Results from Multiple Regression Analysis on attitude towards preparation for quality aging in total sample yielded 43.07%. The important predictors were future orientation and self-control, social support, and need for achievement.  The predictive percentage in subgroups range from 34.86% to 47.89%. The interesting findings were found in some subgroups in terms of different predictors from the total sample. The findings from this study could shed light on increasing favorable attitude towards preparation for quality aging in adolescents. Discussion and implications are presented

Can anyone living based on religious orientation in the tempted environment be happy?  The world’s renounced “Sufficiency Economy “ lifestyle bestowed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great of Thailand is the important promotive practice.  This study investigated direct and indirect effects of traits, situation, religious belief and practice, and behavior based on “sufficiency economy philosophy” on happiness especially hedonic and eudaimonic types. Samples were 323 Booniyom community members, from Santi Asoke, a cult in Buddhist religion.  Results from path analysis indicated the model fit that supported the interactionism model with suggestion to add path relationship between group of antecedents. It was found that happiness was directly accounted for 83 percents by the sufficiency economy relating behaviors, as well as, religious belief and practice. Discussion, further analysis, and suggestions were offered

During the period of old age, everyone wishes to have good quality of living. However, only the ones who have been well-prepared at the younger age could make this wish comes true. This study aims at investigating the psychosocial antecedents of the preparation of quality aging based on ambidextrous approach. Samples were 489 undergraduate students. Path analysis with latent model revealed a good fit. The findings revealed that psychological latent trait (future orientation and self-control, need for achievement, mental health, and core self-evaluation) and situational latent variable (perceived modeling, social support, and social norm) directly affected the preparation for quality aging  (present quality of life, knowledge acquisition, and knowledge usage) via the psychological latent state R2 of 0.606 latent (attitude towards preparation, and locus of control of preparation) with the. Discussion and implications are offered

The world currently lives in an aging society. Demand for elderly caregivers and services is rapidly rising. Elderly care encompasses not only medical care, but also the art of human care. Love and respect are usually considered the backbone of the modality of caregivers. This study aimed at developing a sensitivity for needs of elderly scale (SNES) among caregivers. Maslow’s theory of hierarchical needs, especially stage 3 (love and belongingness needs) and stage 4 (esteem needs), was used as a conceptual framework. This study consisted of four steps. The sample groups for the first two steps of item quality and exploratory factory analysis were 420 nursing students. A three-factor model emerged, which includes the sensitivity of needs for love and empathy, the sensitivity of needs for respect, and the sensitivity of needs for honor and dignity. The newly constructed measure consisted of 10 items, which explained the variance by 52.18%. The third step of confirmatory factor analysis, using a new group of 384 nursing students, indicated the model fit. In the final step, the scale was validated using 171 elderly caregivers. Moderate to strong absolute magnitudes of correlations between the new scale and psycho-moral strength, core self-evaluation, future orientation and self-control, moral disengagement, and caring behavior were found. Incremental validity was tested. Discussion and recommendations for further research and implications of the newly constructed measure were offered

Antecedents of Mindful Risk-Taking Behavior in Secondary School Students: A Path Analytic Approach Abstract   This correlational study aimed at investigating the direct and indirect effects of the psychological and situational factors on mindful risk-taking behavior. The sample of 1,520 students of grade 11 consisted of 683 males (44.9%) and 837 females (55.1%), with the average age of 16.83 years. It was obtained by the technique of stratified quota random sampling from schools in Bangkok and Ayutthaya. There were 6 groups of variables in this study. First, the five psychological traits were future orientation and self-control, need for achievement, internal locus of control of reinforcement, moral identity, and mental health. Secondly, situational factors consisted of 5 variables, namely, love-reasoned child rearing practice, appropriate modeling of mindful risk-taking from parents, role models of mindful risk-taking behaviors from the media, social support from significant others, and socialization from school. Thirdly, psychological states consisted of 4 variables, namely, favorable attitude towards mindful risk-taking behaviors, behavioral tendency, peer-negative influence immunity, and psychological immunity. Fourthly, success in life consisted of 2 variables, happiness and academic achievement. Finally, mindful risk-taking behavior consisted of 4 variables: peer-group mindful risk-taking behavior, commuting mindful risk-taking behavior, consuming mindful risk-taking behavior, and social support of peers’ mindful risk-taking behavior. Path analytic latent results revealed that the psychological trait and the situational factor indirectly affected mindful risk-taking behavior via the psychological state (R2 = 0.88) and success in life (R2 = 0.93). In other words, the psychological state and perceived success in life were the two mediating factors with direct effects on the mindful risk-taking behavior of these Thai adolescents. The R square of the mindful risk-taking latent behavior is 0.95. These results have important implications for further research and promoting interventions.
