The purpose of this thesis was to research and evaluate the potential for organizing a South Korean pop music event in Finland. The aim of the thesis was given to the author by the commissioning organization for this thesis, a Finnish organization JrockSuomi, dedicated to promoting Japanese and South Korean music in Finland. In order to achieve the aim of this thesis the author researched theories and practices of event planning, management and marketing. With the conduction of a questionnaire aimed at a potential target market as well as interviews with the president of the associa-tion, the author was able to find out in depth details that helped to form conclusions and a preliminary event and marketing plan for the potential event. The event plan consists of details on event elements as well as the event’s vision and objectives. The marketing plan includes details on the target market as well as a preliminary advertising plan. The data collected was analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative analysis meth-ods, but as quantitative data acted as the primary data of this thesis, it was more concen-trated on. Event planning, management and marketing theories were used in order to analyze the data and results so that the preliminary event plan could be designed. The main results of this thesis as well as the event plan are not published due to privacy reasons and they can be found in the appendices of this thesis. The results and the event plan will be used by the commissioning association JrockSuomi for the future South Korean pop music events

Inflation in Latvia: how real is it?

    Get PDF
This paper applies and extends the Scandinavian Model of Inflation for analysing determinants of inflation in Latvia. In recent years high inflation has been a persistent problem for advocates of Latvian participation in the euro collaboration. However, by allowing for transitional effects and separating the impact of nominal and real factors to inflation, where real factors are related to the structural shifts at the heart of transition economies, the recent inflation history becomes more understandable. The equilibrium effects accompanying real factors are shown to be the key component of overall inflation over the last 12 years, keeping non-structural inflation below the Maastricht criteria for most of the period. The real contribution to inflation provides Latvia with better prospects for future growth and higher standards of living, and should hence be less worrisome than the nominal contribution. Still, when it comes to compliance with the Maastricht criteria, no distinction is made between the two, complicating convergence for transition economie

Professional mathematics teacher identity: analysis of reflective narratives from discourses and activities

    Get PDF
This article focuses on the methodological use of reflective narratives from discourses and activities of an experienced primary teacher as evidence of her professional identity. The teacher’s reflective narratives emerge from her participation in a 3-year developmental and research project, Learning Communities in Mathematics, conducted at the University of Agder (UiA) in Norway. As background for our study, we firstly present the teacher in action with her sixth-grade pupils in a mathematics lesson, and then analyse selected clusters of reflective narratives from different empirical situations in the project. We have identified four identity indicators, which have been elaborated and organised thematically, related to the teacher’s engagement and critical alignment in the community of participants: (1) Positioning in relation to pupils, (2) Reflecting on developing a workshop model in teaching, (3) Integrating and expanding models of teaching and (4) Challenging positioning in relation to didacticians. These indicators provide evidence of the teacher’s professional identity. We suggest that the emergence of these indicators also gives empirical evidence of professional teacher identity development

Custom Design and Analysis of Modular High Voltage DC Generator

This thesis is written as part of the first phase for the ModHVDC generator project, which is planned to constitute an EC funded project with stakeholders from several countries and institutions. The ModHVDC generator technology aims to match the future power grids that will operate with direct current (DC) for long-distance energy transportation. The work is a contribution towards an iteration-based design process of the generator core, by creating a simple Engineer-to-Order system within Siemens NX. Two generator concepts have been chosen, based on the requirements from the ModHVDC project proposal and a study of traditional electrical machines. Furthermore, the selected concepts have been parametrically modelled and presented in a tailor-made user menu, based on Product Template Studio within Siemens NX. Automatic generation of manufacturing drawings has been implemented to the product template, by creating parametrically controlled drawing templates for each generator component. The drawings can be exported directly to PDF from the product template menu, using an executable program that is written based on the NX Open API. Modal analysis templates have also been created for both concepts, making it possible to run modal analyses on the stator fastening mechanism without having to manually pre-process the FE-model. To deal with the automatic pre-processing, a NX Open script has been written for each concept, which applies the desired materials and mesh parameters based on simple user input in the template menu. Finally, the system has been validated by testing several different generator configurations. The methods used in this solution will be presented in the thesis

Numerical Modelling of Arctic Coastal Hydrodynamics and Sediment Transport

    Get PDF
Coastal areas are experiencing an increase in human population and activities, both in temperate and in Arctic areas. This change in the coastal areas requires that the areas are safe and reliable in order to not put human lives and economical values in danger. To be about to protect the coastal areas it is important to know the hydrodynamics and sediment transport and their effect on coastal areas. Numerical modeling of coastal hydrodynamics and sediment transport is a normal approach to evaluate coastal engineering problems. Many numerical modeling tools are developed for temperate areas but there are not so many programs developed to investigate the Arctic coastal erosion. This thesis written at Norwegian University of Science and Technology(NTNU) is researching Bjørndalen at Svalbard and the coastal erosion that took place because of the storm in 2015. This study investigates the possibility to model the hydrodynamics in an Arctic area and further to be able to use a numerical modeling tool to investigate the Arctic coastal erosion. The numerical tool used in this thesis is MIKE21 developed by Danish Hydraulic Institute(DHI). MIKE21 is a coastal modelling program developed to be used in coastal and marine environments. The results of modelling the coastal hydrodynamics in Isfjorden where Bjørndalen is located is not perfect and they have some unrealistically errors in the results. Bjørndalen is located at a site where the lack of measured data makes it difficult to calibrate the model. In this case the model was not calibrated as it should have been. This study will be a beginning to be able to predict the evolution of out coastal zones in the Arctic. Hopefully it will be found ways to predict coastal erosion in the Arctic, which in turn will make it possible to protect the coast from damage
