Dynamic 3D Network Data Visualization

Monitoring network traffic has always been an arduous and tedious task because of the complexity and sheer volume of network data that is being consistently generated. In addition, network growth and new technologies are rapidly increasing these levels of complexity and volume. An effective technique in understanding and managing a large dataset, such as network traffic, is data visualization. There are several tools that attempt to turn network traffic into visual stimuli. Many of these do so in 2D space and those that are 3D lack the ability to display network patterns effectively. Existing 3D network visualization tools lack user interaction, dynamic generation, and intuitiveness. This project proposes a user-friendly 3D network visualization application that creates both dynamic and interactive visuals. This application was built using the Bablyon.js graphics framework and uses anonymized data collected from a campus network

Avalanche to streamer transition in particle simulations

The avalanche to streamer transition is studied and illustrated in a particle model. The results are similar to those of fluid models. However, when super-particles are introduced, numerical artefacts become visible. This underscores the need of models that are hybrid in space.Comment: 2 pages, 1 figur

Novel Cooling Strategy for Electronic Packages: Directly Injected Cooling

This publication discusses domain integration of various engineering disciplines as an effective methodology to design new and innovative products. A case study illustrates how this approach is applied to the design process of a high performance electronic product. A novel and improved method for the cooling of electronic packages is presented. Standard package types, as for instance ball grid arrays, are equipped with directly injected cooling. The developed design is a very cost effective solution, as fewer productions steps and fewer procured parts are required compared to traditional cooling. The new design is also easily scalable, as multiple components on an electronic product can be cooled both uniformly and simultaneously. This allows for more overall design flexibility, which can result in a more integrated product design with advantages in terms of performance, volume, weight and production efficiency

Ergänzend zu den Beiträgen im ifo Schnelldienst Nr. 7/2008, äußert sich Elmar Brok, Mitglied des Europäischen Parlaments, zu der Möglichkeit der Zahlungsunfähigkeit eines Eurolands. Sollte ein Staat der Eurozone wirklich Bankrott gehen, so könnte dadurch die Währungsunion in Frage gestellt werden. Seiner Meinung nach sollte Europa Solidarität üben, aber „mit Vernunft und Maß“. Die Instrumente der europäischen Solidarität müssten in ihrer vielfältigen Form genutzt werden. Die Europäische Union habe beispielsweise vor kurzem die Erhöhung des Vorschusses für den Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung und den Europäischen Sozialfonds, die hauptsächlich in den ost- und mitteleuropäischen Staaten zum Einsatz kommen, angekündigt. De Genietende Groene Tafel : een pilotonderzoek naar wat goed eten en drinken binnen de zorgsector kan opleveren

Het hier gepresenteerde pilot onderzoek heeft als doel het management in zorginstellingen te ondersteunen in wat goed eten en drinken kan opleveren voor de organisatie. Dit betekent dat resultaten in het pilot onderzoek enerzijds gericht zijn op verbetering van de kwaliteit van leven van de cliënt, diens gezondheid en welbevinden (vertaalt in absolute voedselconsumptie en belevingsmetingen), maar dat deze resultaten tevens in toekomst nadrukkelijk financieel vertaald moeten worden, ondermeer in het gebruik van dieetproducten, mate van hulpvraag en de consequenties op het gebied van medicijngebruik.
