    Inclusion bodies in Plesiomonas shigelloides

    Inclusion bodies were discovered in seven environmental isolates of Plesiomonas shigelloides and the P. shigelloides control (ATCC 14029). Differential staining indicated that the inclusion bodies may be composed of polyphosphates, and developmental stages of the bodies may occur. The inclusion bodies may be useful for rapid presumptive identification of this organism.</jats:p

    the article addresses the microbial environment of the calf with diarrhea. The article starts with a background into the disease and it's treatment. In 1979, workers at the North Dakota State University veterinary science and bacteriology departments began a two year study on the microbial environment of the calf with diarrhea as a part of the NDSU Calf Diarrhea Research Program.In this study, the occurance, the number and pathogenic properties of the E. coli types found in soils from calving barns, calf pens, feedlots and pastures were investigated. This article covers the experimental methods. the results of this study indicated a reservoir of potentially pathogenic E. coli strains in barnyard soils contaminated with bovine feces. Of these strains were K99 pili. Strains isolated from diseased calves were K88 and K99 antigens - both associated with this disease in newborn calves
