CLUSTERS IN THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF LOCAL AND REGIONAL POLICY

    Get PDF
The notion of clusters, as a tool of the local and regional development policy in Poland is a completely new one in our economic reality: it is only recently that it has raised considerable interest on the part of both economic theory and practice. In order that clusters could provide an effective tool of policy that serves the purpose of development and increase the level of competitiveness of the economy, it is indispensable to provide a precise definition of the term. However, defining it is far from an easy task, yet indispensable as regards cognitive procedures exerting a strong influence on the ąuality of scientific knowledge created by researchers of a given phenomenon. Moreover, defining is particularly important if its goal is description or analysis of a given phenomenon since precision in doing so facilitates establishing a proper scope of research and helps exclude from it immaterial features or elements.   &nbsp

Astrophysical Reaction Rates for 10^{10}B(p,α\alpha)7^{7}Be and 11^{11}B(p,α\alpha)8^{8}Be From a Direct Model

The reactions 10^{10}B(p,α\alpha)7^{7}Be and 11^{11}B(p,α\alpha)8^{8}Be are studied at thermonuclear energies using DWBA calculations. For both reactions, transitions to the ground states and first excited states are investigated. In the case of 10^{10}B(p,α\alpha)7^{7}Be, a resonance at ERes=10E_{Res}=10 keV can be consistently described in the potential model, thereby allowing the extension of the astrophysical SS-factor data to very low energies. Strong interference with a resonance at about ERes=550E_{Res}=550 keV require a Breit-Wigner description of that resonance and the introduction of an interference term for the reaction 10^{10}B(p,α1\alpha_1)7^{7}Be^*. Two isospin T=1T=1 resonances (at ERes1=149E_{Res1}=149 keV and ERes2=619E_{Res2}=619 keV) observed in the 11^{11}B+p reactions necessitate Breit-Wigner resonance and interference terms to fit the data of the 11^{11}B(p,α\alpha)8^{8}Be reaction. SS-factors and thermonuclear reaction rates are given for each reaction. The present calculation is the first consistent parametrization for the transition to the ground states and first excited states at low energies.Comment: 27 pages, 5 Postscript figures, uses RevTex and aps.sty; preprint also available at http://quasar.physik.unibas.ch/ Phys. Małe i średnie przedsiębiorstwa jako forma przedsiębiorczości na obszarach wiejskich

    Get PDF

Soil heterogeneity and the challenge of identifying a trajectory of soil properties development at a mine rehabilitated site

Rehabilitation following open-cast mining aims to build a long-term functional and sustainable soil cover for a stable landscape development. The objective of this study was to assess changes in soil recovery of rehabilitation performed at different times (1980, 1998, 2009, 2016, 2017) measured as soil hydraulic and mechanical properties (shear stress) at an open-cast Yallourn mine site in south-east Australia (Victoria) in 2021. Soil hydraulic properties (SHP) were determined using the extended evaporation method and the water retention and hydraulic conductivity curves were fitted using the van Genuchten-Mualem model. The vane shear tests were performed at two depths (0–8 and 10–18 cm) combined with soil water content measurements. The results of the SHP showed a shift in the soil water retention curve when comparing 1980 and 2017 sites. While the saturated water content i.e., total porosity was the same, the saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) decreased from 36.7 to 1.02 cm da

Impact of bare fallow management on soil carbon storage and aggregates across a rock fragment gradient

    Get PDF
Background: Our understanding of C storage in soils lacks insights investigating organic matter (OM) depletion, often studied in bare fallow systems. The content of coarse rock fragments is often excluded, whereas it may affect C storage. Aims: We aim to contribute to a better understanding of the impact of bare fallow on C storage mechanisms in the soil as influenced by its coarse rock fragment contents. We investigated whether bare fallow induced a depletion of C in OM fractions and analyzed to which extent this affected soil aggregate size distribution and the C loading of the clay‐sized fraction. Methods: A comparison of 14 years bare fallow management with adjacent cropped soils located in Selhausen (Germany) provided a gradient of coarse rock fragments of 34%–71%, from which sites with three different fine earth (FE) contents were compared. Across the FE gradient, we isolated particulate OM and mineral‐associated OM fractions, obtained microaggregate and macroaggregate size fractions, and quantified the C loading. Results: Bare fallow management induced an OM depletion at lower contents of FE. There, the management influence was more concentrated onto less FE volume. The contribution of both particulate and mineral‐associated OM fractions to the C in the low‐FE soils decreased. The C loading increased under bare fallow, compared to cropped soil. In the low‐FE soil, we also found less macroaggregates, whereas the C content decreased in some microaggregate size fractions. Conclusions: A high content of coarse rock fragments can enhance OM depletion decreasing mineral‐associated and particulate C under bare fallow
