    Proton-proton collision data recorded in 2011 and 2012 by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0\invfb, are analysed to search for the charmless B0ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to \rho^0 \rho^0} decay. More than 600 B0(π+π)(π+π){B^0 \to (\pi^+\pi^-)(\pi^+\pi^-)} signal decays are selected and used to perform an amplitude analysis from which the B0ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to \rho^0 \rho^0} decay is observed for the first time with 7.1 standard deviations significance. The fraction of B0ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to \rho^0 \rho^0} decays yielding a longitudinally polarised final state is measured to be fL=0.7450.058+0.048(stat)±0.034(syst)f_L = 0.745^{+0.048}_{-0.058} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.034 ({\rm syst}). The B0ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to \rho^0 \rho^0} branching fraction, using the B0ϕK(892)0{B^0 \to \phi K^*(892)^{0}} decay as reference, is also reported as B(B0ρ0ρ0)=(0.94±0.17(stat)±0.09(syst)±0.06(BF))×106{B(B^0 \to \rho^0 \rho^0) = (0.94 \pm 0.17 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.09 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.06 ({\rm BF})) \times 10^{-6}}

    Full text link
    An angular analysis of the decay Bs0K0Kˉ0B_s^0 \rightarrow K^{*0}\bar{K}{}^{*0} is performed using pppp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.01.0 fb1{fb}^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy s=7\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV. A combined angular and mass analysis separates six helicity amplitudes and allows the measurement of the longitudinal polarisation fraction fL=0.201±0.057(stat.)±0.040(syst.)f_L = 0.201 \pm 0.057 {(stat.)} \pm 0.040{(syst.)} for the Bs0K(892)0Kˉ(892)0B_s^0 \rightarrow K^*(892)^0 \bar{K}{}^*(892)^0 decay. A large scalar contribution from the K0(1430)K^{*}_{0}(1430) and K0(800)K^{*}_{0}(800) resonances is found, allowing the determination of additional CPCP asymmetries. Triple product and direct CPCP asymmetries are determined to be compatible with the Standard Model expectations. The branching fraction B(Bs0K(892)0Kˉ(892)0)\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \rightarrow K^*(892)^0 \bar{K}{}^*(892)^0) is measured to be (10.8±2.1 (stat.)±1.4 (syst.)±0.6 (fd/fs))×106(10.8 \pm 2.1 {\ \rm (stat.)} \pm 1.4 {\ \rm (syst.)} \pm 0.6 \ (f_d/f_s) ) \times 10^{-6}

    The branching fractions of the decay B+ → pp̄K+ for different intermediate states are measured using data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb-1, collected by the LHCb experiment. The total branching fraction, its charmless component Mpp̄ < 2.85 GeV/c2 and the branching fractions via the resonant cc̄ states η c(1S) and ψ(2S) relative to the decay via a J/ψ intermediate state are [Equation not available: see fulltext.] Upper limits on the B + branching fractions into the η c(2S) meson and into the charmonium-like states X(3872) and X(3915) are also obtained

    Search for the rare decays B0J/ψγB^{0}\to J/\psi \gamma and Bs0J/ψγB^{0}_{s} \to J/\psi \gamma

    Get PDF
    A search for the rare decay of a B0B^{0} or Bs0B^{0}_{s} meson into the final state J/ψγJ/\psi\gamma is performed, using data collected by the LHCb experiment in pppp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 and 88 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb1^{-1}. The observed number of signal candidates is consistent with a background-only hypothesis. Branching fraction values larger than 1.7×1061.7\times 10^{-6} for the B0J/ψγB^{0}\to J/\psi\gamma decay mode are excluded at 90% confidence level. For the Bs0J/ψγB^{0}_{s}\to J/\psi\gamma decay mode, branching fraction values larger than 7.4×1067.4\times 10^{-6} are excluded at 90% confidence level, this is the first branching fraction limit for this decay.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://lhcbproject.web.cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/LHCbProjectPublic/LHCb-PAPER-2015-044.htm

    A model-independent confirmation of the Z(4430)Z(4430)^- state

    The decay B0ψ(2S)K+πB^0\to \psi(2S) K^+\pi^- is analyzed using 3 fb1\rm 3~fb^{-1} of pppp collision data collected with the LHCb detector. A model-independent description of the ψ(2S)π\psi(2S) \pi mass spectrum is obtained, using as input the KπK\pi mass spectrum and angular distribution derived directly from data, without requiring a theoretical description of resonance shapes or their interference. The hypothesis that the ψ(2S)π\psi(2S)\pi mass spectrum can be described in terms of KπK\pi reflections alone is rejected with more than 8σ\sigma significance. This provides confirmation, in a model-independent way, of the need for an additional resonant component in the mass region of the Z(4430)Z(4430)^- exotic state.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://lhcbproject.web.cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/LHCbProjectPublic/LHCb-PAPER-2015-038.htm

    BB flavour tagging using charm decays at the LHCb experiment

    Get PDF
    An algorithm is described for tagging the flavour content at production of neutral BB mesons in the LHCb experiment. The algorithm exploits the correlation of the flavour of a BB meson with the charge of a reconstructed secondary charm hadron from the decay of the other bb hadron produced in the proton-proton collision. Charm hadron candidates are identified in a number of fully or partially reconstructed Cabibbo-favoured decay modes. The algorithm is calibrated on the self-tagged decay modes B+J/ψK+B^+ \to J/\psi \, K^+ and B0J/ψK0B^0 \to J/\psi \, K^{*0} using 3.0fb13.0\mathrm{\,fb}^{-1} of data collected by the LHCb experiment at pppp centre-of-mass energies of 7TeV7\mathrm{\,TeV} and 8TeV8\mathrm{\,TeV}. Its tagging power on these samples of BJ/ψXB \to J/\psi \, X decays is (0.30±0.01±0.01)%(0.30 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.01) \%.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at http://lhcbproject.web.cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/LHCbProjectPublic/LHCb-PAPER-2015-027.htm

    Study of charmonium production in b -hadron decays and first evidence for the decay Bs0

    Using decays to φ-meson pairs, the inclusive production of charmonium states in b-hadron decays is studied with pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1, collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. Denoting byBC ≡ B(b → C X) × B(C → φφ) the inclusive branching fraction of a b hadron to a charmonium state C that decays into a pair of φ mesons, ratios RC1C2 ≡ BC1 /BC2 are determined as Rχc0ηc(1S) = 0.147 ± 0.023 ± 0.011, Rχc1ηc(1S) =0.073 ± 0.016 ± 0.006, Rχc2ηc(1S) = 0.081 ± 0.013 ± 0.005,Rχc1 χc0 = 0.50 ± 0.11 ± 0.01, Rχc2 χc0 = 0.56 ± 0.10 ± 0.01and Rηc(2S)ηc(1S) = 0.040 ± 0.011 ± 0.004. Here and below the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.Upper limits at 90% confidence level for the inclusive production of X(3872), X(3915) and χc2(2P) states are obtained as RX(3872)χc1 < 0.34, RX(3915)χc0 < 0.12 andRχc2(2P)χc2 < 0.16. Differential cross-sections as a function of transverse momentum are measured for the ηc(1S) andχc states. The branching fraction of the decay B0s → φφφ is measured for the first time, B(B0s → φφφ) = (2.15±0.54±0.28±0.21B)×10−6. Here the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the decay B0s → φφ, which is used for normalization. No evidence for intermediate resonances is seen. A preferentially transverse φ polarization is observed.The measurements allow the determination of the ratio of the branching fractions for the ηc(1S) decays to φφ and p p asB(ηc(1S)→ φφ)/B(ηc(1S)→ p p) = 1.79 ± 0.14 ± 0.32
