Compilation and analysis of charge asymmetry measurements from electron and positron scattering on nucleon and nuclei
World data on the lepton-charge asymmetry in the elastic and inelastic lepton
scattering off the proton and nuclei are compiled and discussed. After
reviewing the published results, we compare the elastic data to a model
calculation of the two-photon exchange mechanism. We show that the existing
data do not provide any evidence for the two-photon contribution. At
significance level 0.05 the data allow to exclude the two-photon exchange as an
explanation for the difference between Rosenbluth and polarization measurements
of proton electromagnetic form factors.Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures 2 table
Muon capture by 3He nuclei followed by proton and deuteron production
The paper describes an experiment aimed at studying muon capture by
nuclei in pure and mixtures at various densities. Energy distributions of
protons and deuterons produced via and are measured for the
energy intervals MeV and MeV, respectively. Muon capture
rates, and are obtained using two different analysis methods. The
least--squares methods gives , . The Bayes theorem
gives ,
. The experimental
differential capture rates, and , are compared with theoretical
calculations performed using the plane--wave impulse approximation (PWIA) with
the realistic NN interaction Bonn B potential. Extrapolation to the full energy
range yields total proton and deuteron capture rates in good agreement with

Angular distributions of scattered excited muonic hydrogen atoms
Differential cross sections of the Coulomb deexcitation in the collisions of
excited muonic hydrogen with the hydrogen atom have been studied for the first
time. In the framework of the fully quantum-mechanical close-coupling approach
both the differential cross sections for the transitions and
-averaged differential cross sections have been calculated for exotic atom
in the initial states with the principle quantum number at relative
motion energies eV and at scattering angles
. The vacuum polarization shifts of the
-states are taken into account. The calculated in the same approach
differential cross sections of the elastic and Stark scattering are also
presented. The main features of the calculated differential cross sections are
discussed and a strong anisotropy of cross sections for the Coulomb
deexcitation is predicted.Comment: 5 pages, 9 figure
Hyperonic mixing in five-baryon double-strangeness hypernuclei in a two-channel treatment
Properties of hypernuclei H and He are studied in a two-channel approach with explicit treatment of
coupling of channels ^3\text{Z}+\Lambda+\Lambda and \alpha+\Xi. Diagonal
\Lambda\Lambda and coupling \Lambda\Lambda-\Xi N interactions are derived
within G-matrix procedure from Nijmegen meson-exchange models. Bond energy
\Delta B_{\Lambda\Lambda} in He exceeds significantly
that in H due to the channel coupling. Diagonal \Xi\alpha
attraction amplifies the effect, which is sensitive also to \Lambda-core
interaction. The difference of the \Delta B_{\Lambda\Lambda} values can be an
unambiguous signature of the \Lambda\Lambda-\Xi N coupling in \Lambda\Lambda
hypernuclei. However, improved knowledge of the hyperon-nucleus potentials is
needed for quantitative extraction of the coupling strength from future data on
the \Lambda\Lambda hypernuclear binding energies.Comment: 11 pages with 3 figures; Phys. Rev. C, accepte
PEN experiment: a precise measurement of the pi+ -> e+ nu decay branching fraction
A new measurement of , the decay
branching ratio, is currently under way at the Paul Scherrer Institute. The
present experimental result on constitutes the most accurate test
of lepton universality available. The accuracy, however, still lags behind the
theoretical precision by over an order of magnitude. Because of the large
helicity suppression of the decay, its branching ratio is
susceptible to significant contributions from new physics, making this decay a
