A GCM simulation of the earth-atmosphere radiation balance for winter and summer
The radiation balance of the earth-atmosphere system simulated by using the general circulation model (GCM) of the Laboratory for Atmospheric Sciences (GLAS) is examined in regards to its graphical distribution, zonally-averaged distribution, and global mean. Most of the main features of the radiation balance at the top of the atmosphere are reasonably simulated, with some differences in the detailed structure of the patterns and intensities for both summer and winter in comparison with values as derived from Nimbus and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) satellite observations. Both the capability and defects of the model are discussed
Quantum nonlocality of four-qubit entangled states
Quantum nonlocality of several four-qubit states is investigated by
constructing a new Bell inequality. These include the
Greenberger-Zeilinger-Horne (GHZ) state, W state, cluster state, and the state
that has been recently proposed in [PRL, {\bf 96}, 060502 (2006)]. The
Bell inequality is optimally violated by but not violated by the GHZ
state. The cluster state also violates the Bell inequality though not
optimally. The state can thus be discriminated from the cluster state
by using the inequality. Different aspects of four-partite entanglement are
also studied by considering the usefulness of a family of four-qubit mixed
states as resources for two-qubit teleportation. Our results generalize those
in [PRL, {\bf 72}, 797 (1994)].Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur
Information Flow, Non-Markovianity and Geometric Phases
Geometric phases and information flows of a two-level system coupled to its
environment are calculated and analyzed. The information flow is defined as a
cumulant of changes in trace distance between two quantum states, which is
similar to the measure for non-Markovianity given by Breuer. We obtain an
analytic relation between the geometric phase and the information flow for pure
initial states, and a numerical result for mixed initial states. The geometric
phase behaves differently depending on whether there are information flows back
to the two-level system from its environment.Comment: 12 pages, 11 figure
Quantum Nonlocality of N-qubit W states
An experimental setup for testing quantum nonlocality of N qubits is
proposed. This method is a generalization of the optical setup proposed by
Banaszek and Wodkiewicz [1]. The quantum nonlocality of N qubits can be
obtained through its violation of N-qubit Bell inequalities. The correlation
function measured in the experiment is described by the Wigner function. The
effect of inefficient detector is also considered.Comment: 5 pages and 2 figures, some errors are corrected in v
