    Charged Higgs Boson Pairs at the LHC

    We compute the cross section for pair production of charged Higgs bosons at the LHC and compare the three production mechanisms. The bottom-parton scattering process is computed to NLO, and the validity of the bottom-parton approach is established in detail. The light-flavor Drell-Yan cross section is evaluated at NLO as well. The gluon fusion process through a one-loop amplitude is then compared with these two results. We show how a complete sample of events could look, in terms of total cross sections and distributions of the heavy final states.Comment: 15 pages with 8 figure

    We show that the study of certain observables in the angular distribution in BJ/ψKB\to J/\psi K^* provide clear test for CP vioaltion beyond the Standard Model.     Benefits of Fast Cut Back Function of Thermal Generating Units in Constructing Self-healing Grids

    This paper investigates the benefits of Fast Cut Back (FCB) function of thermal generating units in the self-healing control context. The FCB function enables a generating unit to reduce its output down to the auxiliary power level within seconds. The output can later be restored to normal level promptly without cold start process. This ability can provide dispatchers additional measures in both the emergency control and the restorative control. In this paper, the model of FCB function generating units is established. The benefits of the FCB function in system restoration context are described. Case studies are presented to show: 1) FCB function can be used to maintain generation balance in controlled separation; 2) FCB function reduces the restoration time in the blackstart stage.published_or_final_versio

    Capture and sorting of multiple cells by polarization-controlled three-beam interference

    For the capture and sorting of multiple cells, a sensitive and highly efficient polarization-controlled three-beam interference set-up has been developed. With the theory of superposition of three beams, simulations on the influence of polarization angle upon the intensity distribution and the laser gradient force change with different polarization angles have been carried out. By controlling the polarization angle of the beams, various intensity distributions and different sizes of dots are obtained. We have experimentally observed multiple optical tweezers and the sorting of cells with different polarization angles, which are in accordance with the theoretical analysis. The experimental results have shown that the polarization angle affects the shapes and feature sizes of the interference patterns and the trapping force

    Integrability of the Heisenberg Chains with Boundary Impurities and Their Bethe Ansatz

    In this paper, we show the integrability of spin-1/2 XXZ Heisenberg chain with two arbitrary spin boundary Impurities. By using the fusion method, we generalize it to the spin-1 XXZ chain.     Indications for Factorization and ReVub<0Re V_{ub} < 0 from Rare B Decay Data

    Surveying known hadronic rare B decays, we find that the factorization approximation can give a coherent account of KπK\pi, ππ\pi\pi and ρ0π+\rho^0\pi^+ data and give predictions for ω0π+\omega^0\pi^+, ρπ\rho\pi and KπK^*\pi modes, {\it if ReVub{Re}V_{ub} is taken as negative} (in standard phase convention) rather than positive. As further confirmation, we expect a lower sin2β\sin2\beta value at B Factories as compared to current fits, and BsB_s mixing close to LEP bounds at SLD and CDF.Comment: 11 pages, revtex, 4 figures (unchanged and eps files included); version (including title and abstract change) to appear in Phys.     Characterising New Physics Models by Effective Dimensionality of Parameter Space

    We show that the dimension of the geometric shape formed by the phenomenologically valid points inside a multi-dimensional parameter space can be used to characterise different new physics models and to define a quantitative measure for the distribution of the points. We explain a simple algorithm to determine the box-counting dimension from a given set of parameter points, and illustrate our method with examples from different models that have recently been studied with respect to precision flavour observables.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure

    A fourth generation, anomalous like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry and the LHC

    A fourth chiral generation, with mtm_{t^\prime} in the range (300500)\sim (300 - 500) GeV and a moderate value of the CP-violating phase can explain the anomalous like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry observed recently by the D0 collaboration. The required parameters are found to be consistent with constraints from other BB and KK decays.
