Hydrostatic and Physiologic Contributions to Intraocular Pressure Change During Postural Change

    Get PDF
Many studies have observed that intraocular pressure (IOP) is dependent on tilt angle () during postural change. In this work, we aggregated 36 independent datasets from 30 published articles, representing 821 subjects, which reported data on IOP during postural change. From this data, we developed a generalized quantitative relationship between IOP and . We then compared the experimentally derived results to simulated predictions generated by our lumped parameter model of the eye, LPEye, considering only hydrostatic effects. The difference between the analytical and simulated values of IOP can be used to quantify the physiologic regulatory contribution

AI has revolutionized various processes throughout the value chain. When taking a focused look at Marketing and Supply chain functions, however, the two largest retailers in the world, Walmart and Amazon, have led the charge towards AI modernity within implementation. With AI’s impact on business taking the forefront of the collective consciousness, innovations have seemed to emerge daily. Agentic AI is the newest “flavor of the month” that is promising to further optimize and provide value to businesses and their different needs. With this advancement in AI reasoning, the realm of innovative possibilities has expanded greatly. This in combination with the lessons learned from Walmart and Amazon’s effective AI implementation represents a promising way of further automating and combining marketing and supply chain functions

    CP--odd Correlation in the Decay of Neutral Higgs Boson into ZZZZ, W+WW^+W^-, or ttˉt{\bar t}

We investigate the possibility of detecting CP--odd angular correlations in the various decay modes of the neutral Higgs boson including the modes of a ZZZZ pair, a W+WW^+W^- pair, or a heavy quark pair. It is a natural way to probe the CP character of the Higgs boson once it is identified. Final state interactions (i.e. the absorptive decay amplitude) is not required in such correlations. As an illustrative example we take the fundamental source of the CP nonconservation to be in the Yukawa couplings of the Higgs boson to the heavy fermions. A similar correlation in the process e+el+lHe^+e^- \to l^+ l^- H is also proposed. Our analysis of these correlations will be useful for experiments in future colliders such as LEP II, SSC, LHC or NLC.Comment: 16 pages, plus 8 postscript graphs not posted befor

Fermion Masses and Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking from a Single U(1)

    Get PDF
We present a supersymmetric model of flavor. A single U(1) gauge group is responsible for both generating the flavor spectrum and communicating supersymmetry breaking to the visible sector. The problem of Flavor Changing Neutral Currents is overcome, in part using an `Effective Supersymmetry' spectrum among the squarks, with the first two generations very heavy. All masses are generated dynamically and the theory is completely renormalizable. The model contains a simple Froggatt-Nielsen sector and communicates supersymmetry breaking via gauge mediation without requiring a separate messenger sector. By forcing the theory to be consistent with SU(5) Grand Unification, the model predicts a large tan beta and a massless up quark. While respecting the experimental bounds on CP violation in the K-system, the model leads to a large enhancement of CP violation in B-(B bar) mixing as well as in B decay amplitudes.Comment: LaTeX, 25 pages, 8 figure

Tunneling Time Distribution by means of Nelson's Quantum Mechanics and Wave-Particle Duality

    Get PDF
We calculate a tunneling time distribution by means of Nelson's quantum mechanics and investigate its statistical properties. The relationship between the average and deviation of tunneling time suggests the exsistence of ``wave-particle duality'' in the tunneling phenomena.Comment: 14 pages including 11 figures, the text has been revise

Come back Marshall, all is forgiven? : Complexity, evolution, mathematics and Marshallian exceptionalism

    Get PDF
Marshall was the great synthesiser of neoclassical economics. Yet with his qualified assumption of self-interest, his emphasis on variation in economic evolution and his cautious attitude to the use of mathematics, Marshall differs fundamentally from other leading neoclassical contemporaries. Metaphors inspire more specific analogies and ontological assumptions, and Marshall used the guiding metaphor of Spencerian evolution. But unfortunately, the further development of a Marshallian evolutionary approach was undermined in part by theoretical problems within Spencer's theory. Yet some things can be salvaged from the Marshallian evolutionary vision. They may even be placed in a more viable Darwinian framework.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio

Modeling DNA Structure, Elasticity and Deformations at the Base-pair Level

We present a generic model for DNA at the base-pair level. We use a variant of the Gay-Berne potential to represent the stacking energy between neighboring base-pairs. The sugar-phosphate backbones are taken into account by semi-rigid harmonic springs with a non-zero spring length. The competition of these two interactions and the introduction of a simple geometrical constraint leads to a stacked right-handed B-DNA-like conformation. The mapping of the presented model to the Marko-Siggia and the Stack-of-Plates model enables us to optimize the free model parameters so as to reproduce the experimentally known observables such as persistence lengths, mean and mean squared base-pair step parameters. For the optimized model parameters we measured the critical force where the transition from B- to S-DNA occurs to be approximately 140pN140{pN}. We observe an overstretched S-DNA conformation with highly inclined bases that partially preserves the stacking of successive base-pairs.Comment: 15 pages, 25 figures. submitted to PR

    Measurement of the Decay Asymmetry Parameters in Λc+Λπ+\Lambda_c^+ \to \Lambda\pi^+ and Λc+Σ+π0\Lambda_c^+ \to \Sigma^+\pi^0

We have measured the weak decay asymmetry parameters (\aLC ) for two \LC\ decay modes. Our measurements are \aLC = -0.94^{+0.21+0.12}_{-0.06-0.06} for the decay mode Λc+Λπ+\Lambda_c^+ \to \Lambda\pi^+ and \aLC = -0.45\pm 0.31 \pm 0.06 for the decay mode ΛcΣ+π0\Lambda_c \to \Sigma^+\pi^0 . By combining these measurements with the previously measured decay rates, we have extracted the parity-violating and parity-conserving amplitudes. These amplitudes are used to test models of nonleptonic charmed baryon decay.Comment: 11 pages including the figures. Uses REVTEX and psfig macros. Figures as uuencoded postscript.
