Photoallergic contact dermatitis from benzydamine presenting mainly as lip dermatitis
BACKGROUND: Benzydamine, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) in use for more than four decades, has been reported to cause photosensitivity.
OBJECTIVES: To study the results of photopatch testing to benzydamine and the clinical features of the dermatitis during a 3-year period (2006-2008).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: During this period, 74 patients with photodermatoses were photopatch tested with an extended baseline series of allergens including benzydamine and in suspicious cases, with drugs that contain it. Test sites were irradiated on D2 with 5 J/cm(2) and readings were performed on D2 and D4.
RESULTS: Ten patients (six females/four males), aged 21-84 years (mean 64.9) had a positive photopatch test to benzydamine [1-5% petrolatum (pet.) from Bial-Aristegui] and to drugs that contain it (Tantum verde oral solution and Momen gel). Nine patients had lower lip cheilitis and one lichenified eczema on photo-exposed sites.
CONCLUSION: Photosensitivity from both topical and systemic benzydamine has been occasionally described, mainly in southern Spain. Despite its widespread use and its known photosensitizing capacity, photoallergic contact dermatitis from benzydamine is probably underdiagnosed as the clinical presentation of mainly the lip and chin is not typical of photoallergic contact dermatitis and benzydamine is not part of most photoallergen series

Keratoacanthoma-like nodules as first manifestation of metastatic epithelioid trophoblastic tumor
Cutaneous metastases are rarely the initial manifestation of a previously undiagnosed malignancy and keratoacanthoma-like lesions are a notoriously unusual presentation pattern of cutaneous dissemination of a primary tumor. Herein, we report a 40-year-old woman presenting to our dermatology department with multiple keratoacanthoma-like scalp nodules. Subsequent investigation determined it to be the first manifestation of a disseminated endometrial epithelioid trophoblastic tumor, eventually causing the patient's death. Epithelioid trophoblastic tumor, a rare form of gestational trophoblastic disease, is a recently described neoplasm whose cutaneous metastasis has not been previously reported in the literature
Black Hole Hair Removal: Non-linear Analysis
BMPV black holes in flat transverse space and in Taub-NUT space have
identical near horizon geometries but different microscopic degeneracies. It
has been proposed that this difference can be accounted for by different
contribution to the degeneracies of these black holes from hair modes, --
degrees of freedom living outside the horizon. In this paper we explicitly
construct the hair modes of these two black holes as finite bosonic and
fermionic deformations of the black hole solution satisfying the full
non-linear equations of motion of supergravity and preserving the supersymmetry
of the original solutions. Special care is taken to ensure that these solutions
do not have any curvature singularity at the future horizon when viewed as the
full ten dimensional geometry. We show that after removing the contribution due
to the hair degrees of freedom from the microscopic partition function, the
partition functions of the two black holes agree.Comment: 40 pages, LaTe
Branch Mode Selection during Early Lung Development
Many organs of higher organisms, such as the vascular system, lung, kidney,
pancreas, liver and glands, are heavily branched structures. The branching
process during lung development has been studied in great detail and is
remarkably stereotyped. The branched tree is generated by the sequential,
non-random use of three geometrically simple modes of branching (domain
branching, planar and orthogonal bifurcation). While many regulatory components
and local interactions have been defined an integrated understanding of the
regulatory network that controls the branching process is lacking. We have
developed a deterministic, spatio-temporal differential-equation based model of
the core signaling network that governs lung branching morphogenesis. The model
focuses on the two key signaling factors that have been identified in
experiments, fibroblast growth factor (FGF10) and sonic hedgehog (SHH) as well
as the SHH receptor patched (Ptc). We show that the reported biochemical
interactions give rise to a Schnakenberg-type Turing patterning mechanisms that
allows us to reproduce experimental observations in wildtype and mutant mice.
The kinetic parameters as well as the domain shape are based on experimental
data where available. The developed model is robust to small absolute and large
relative changes in the parameter values. At the same time there is a strong
regulatory potential in that the switching between branching modes can be
achieved by targeted changes in the parameter values. We note that the sequence
of different branching events may also be the result of different growth
speeds: fast growth triggers lateral branching while slow growth favours
bifurcations in our model. We conclude that the FGF10-SHH-Ptc1 module is

Discrete Information from CHL Black Holes
AdS_2/CFT_1 correspondence predicts that the logarithm of a Z_N twisted index
over states carrying a fixed set of charges grows as 1/N times the entropy of
the black hole carrying the same set of charges. In this paper we verify this
explicitly by calculating the microscopic Z_N twisted index for a class of
states in the CHL models. This demonstrates that black holes carry more

Super Weyl invariance: BPS equations from heterotic worldsheets
It is well-known that the beta functions on a string worldsheet correspond to
the target space equations of motion, e.g. the Einstein equations. We show that
the BPS equations, i.e. the conditions of vanishing supersymmetry variations of
the space-time fermions, can be directly derived from the worldsheet. To this
end we consider the RNS-formulation of the heterotic string with (2,0)
supersymmetry, which describes a complex torsion target space that supports a
holomorphic vector bundle. After a detailed account of its quantization and
renormalization, we establish that the cancellation of the Weyl anomaly
combined with (2,0) finiteness implies the heterotic BPS conditions: At the one
loop level the geometry is required to be conformally balanced and the gauge

Multi-source deep transfer learning for cross-sensor biometrics
Deep transfer learning emerged as a new paradigm in machine learning in which a deep model is trained on a source task and the knowledge acquired is then totally or partially transferred to help in solving a target task. In this paper, we apply the source-target-source methodology, both in its original form and an extended multi-source version, to the problem of cross-sensor biometric recognition. We tested the proposed methodology on the publicly available CSIP image database, achieving state-of-the-art results in a wide variety of cross-sensor scenarios
